Enora
I found my hands shaking. My tongue was tied as I stared into the beautiful brown eyes of this man towering in front of me. He wanted more. He really wanted more. This had to be some kind of dream, an illusion. He stepped away from me, and I was finally released from my daze and looked at his watch. “I suppose we should get going. I wouldn’t like to be late for my meeting with Mr. Gonman.” I didn’t find words to say and settled on a nod. I turned heel to leave his room and felt him grab my arm. My heart skipped another dangerous beat and my blood pressure sky-rocketed. This was all too much on my second day. “Think about what I said, Enora. As a businessman, I don’t like my proposals pending for too long.” He let go of me and walked past me, his broad shoulders brushing me lightly as he left the room. My body around this man always went haywire. I thought he thought me to be clutz and now he was asking for more. No. This wasn’t the right time to wrap my head around this. This was just my first day on the job. I couldn’t… “Enora!” His voice yelled my name, and I hurried to join him in the living room where he had been waiting for me. I was so embarrassed. My face was the same shade of red on my red-bottom shoes. His eyes bared down on me and his aura weakened me at my knees. I wanted to apologize but my tongue stuck to the roof of my mouth. I couldn’t explain my relief when he said nothing, and I quietly followed him out of the room. I had to take a deep breath and clear my head. I had to be professional and no one mixes work and pleasure, even if the pleasure seemed more appealing than the work and the boss looked like the hottest thing since the creation of fire. We got to the elevator and I was grateful for the silence between us. I kept my eyes fixed on the floor and only used my ears to listen for the light ping of the elevator once we reached the ground floor. As I walked beside Mr. Wright with my head lowered, avoiding his gaze, my mind created images, nasty images. I gulped and felt a bead of sweat appear on my forehead. By the time we got into the car, I was jittery and sweaty and it was autumn. I was just the worst. I embarrassed myself and… “Miss Lopez…” I raised my head at the sound of my name and was in an immediate panic. What was with the name change? From Miss Lopez to Enora and now, back to Miss Lopez. Was I in trouble? Was I getting fired? “...clear my schedule for the rest of the day. I want my meeting with Mr, Gonman to be the last one. I’ll call the other clients and arrange new dates and have you put them on my calendar.” “Yes, sir.” I exhaled and felt my mind fix a few gears. At least I would have some work to get my mind off this crazy day. I hoped Mr. Gonman was an interesting client. I wouldn’t like to sit through the meeting and only be able to concentrate on my sexy boss. ~~~ “Mr. Wright, your proposal seems a bit lofty. You seem to have a lot of confidence with market prediction.” Mr. Gonman picked up the paper in front of him and looked at it again. He wasn’t as entertaining as Ms. Patel, but he made up for it with a quirky appearance. His half-moon glasses seemed to come straight out of a magical book, and his voice was a weird mesh of French and Russian. Who speaks like that? He looked at the paper harder and longer, taking his glasses off, wiping them, and putting them back on as if that would change the figures on the paper before him. Mr. Wright simply sat calmly and allowed him to take his time. Even in his silence, he seemed to command the room and his aura swallowed up everyone else’s without even trying. “Your predictions are very bold, Mr. Wright. Almost unbelievable, if I might say, and I do not believe that such outrageous predictions will ever come to fulfillment and my company would suffer. Gate Industries must thrive, and this doesn’t seem to fulfill my goals.” He passed the paper back to Mr. Wright who simply chuckled and took the paper back. This was the first time I had ever seen him laugh. I didn’t see what was amusing. But then again, what did I know? This was business that was way beyond me. “I understand that you have some concerns, Mr. Gonman, and I acknowledge that you are simply doing your best to make sure Gate Industries thrives.-” He set the paper down and slid it back to Mr. Gonman, who looked quite confused. “- I understand that you believe my predictions are outlandish but they make perfect sense considering the increase in the value of cryptocurrencies and the apparent volatility of that market.” He crossed his fingers and leaned forward. My breathing hitched as I watched him with a mixture of lust, hunger, and admiration. This was Mr. Wright in his domain, his habitat, and he took charge of it in the most alluring way. All he was doing was talking, and my body seemed already surrendered to him. “I understand that you are a very proper businessman and very rooted in the classical ways of doing business. My predictions are very much in line with the present-day market, and I believe that teaming up with me will give your company a larger insight into the fast-paced business world while you can still keep your classical norms and ideals. Mind you, I am also aligning my businesses according to these predictions and if they fail, I too will be at a loss…” He leaned back into his chair and took a deep breath. His eyes darkened, and he looked at Mr. Gonman with an intimidating air of authority. I wanted him to look at me with those kind of eyes. “...Do you think that I would want to put my own company in a position to lose profit?” There was a thick silence in the room, broken only by the squeaking noise Mr. Gonaman made as he wiped his glasses. He put them back on and sighed. “I suppose not, Mr. Wright…”Enora:Fiona was cooking when I got home. The house smelled wonderful and I sighed in satisfaction as I slumped into the sofa. I never thought that I would be this tired. I was having such a good day at work.“Miss Lopez,” Fiona greeted, coming out of the kitchen with a hand towel, “welcome home. I am sure that Mr. Wright told you that he was traveling.”“Yeah,” I answered, sinking further into my chair. I was already missing him. “Well, I am sure that you will be fine without him. Dinner is almost ready. Will you be eating soon.”My stomach growled loudly and my face went piknk. Fiona chuckled. “I guess I will be taking that as a yes. Dinner will be ready in five minutes.”I unpacked my bag and took out my phone. No new messages from Nathan yet. Bummer. I texted him. “I hope you got to New York safely. I hope you’re okay and so are your workers. Please call me when you get this.”Send. My heart skipped a beat and I picked up the phone again. I really wished that he answered immed
Enora:My jaw dropped. “Enora? Darling? Are you okay? Why aren’t you saying anything?”His voice pulled me out of the millions of thoughts that were rushing through my head.“Huh? Yeah. I… I’m so sorry for what happened. You should really go on your trip. I will talk to you later. I have a lot of work to finish up.”He chuckled. “My sweet little workaholic. I guess we will talk later. I love you.”“I love you too.”The phone went dead and I put it down. I was going to spend most of the week alone. But it all seemed so strange. Outside the fact that Jasper was working here, it was when Dakora had planned a date with me that his warehouse in New York caught fire. “Fuck!–”I slapped my hands on my face and dragged them down in exasperation. “–I was letting her get into my head again. Dakota was messing with me. It was just coincidence or she kept regular tabs on her ex husbands. A lot of crazy ex-wives did that. I’ve seen the shows.”I exhaled and returned back to work. It was just
Enora:“Hello. Nathan, thank God you called. Something weird just happened,” I breathed leaning against the bathroom wall and taking a deep breath.“Really. I would love to know what happened.” I almost stopped breathing. It was like my lungs had closed up and my body stiffened up. This wasn't Nathan. “What’s the matter, pretty little thing? Why aren’t you saying anything? Sad that this isn’t your beloved Nathan.”I gulped hard. I knew that voice: the edge, the entitled sarcasm, but how did she get my number? “What do you want, Dakota?”She chuckled heartily and it reminded me of those witches in disney. She certainly looked like one. “Took you long enough, darling. But I don’t want anything from you. I just thought that you might like to join me for dinner. You know, two ladies, both of which have been fucked by Mr. Wright, sitting together at a nice restaurant, catching up. I can’t imagine anything more scenic.”My eyes made big circles. Did she really think that I was that dumb
Enora:“W-Wha? Enora?”The papers in his hand slipped and fell to the floor. We were locked, eyes on each other and I could feel memories rushing in and out of my head. Why was he even here? I thought I wasn’t going to see him anymore. After he left college in his sophomore year, I thought it would be good riddance. “Uhmm… I… I…”He picked up the papers, dropped them on my desk and without another word, he rushed out, slamming the door shut behind him.I plopped back into my seat, my thoughts almost bleached. Jasper… my ex… was in my office. He was the new manager. Did Nathan know any of this before he hired him? No, no, no. That was stupid. He wasn’t weird like that. No way he was asking every applicant their dating history. It was just an unfortunate coincidence. I grabbed the papers and worked, trying not to think about Jasper, even though it was literally impossible. We kind of dated. It wasn’t really official but I didn’t think it mattered. He shared a connection and for an e
Enora:“Surprise!!!”The lobby was filled with smiling faces. Nothing at all like I was expecting. I expected scowls, frowns and sour faces, not streamers, balloons and confetti. I looked up at the banner that was hanging from the ceiling. “Thank you for your work, Miss Lopez!”Was this why Nathan told me that I could come back to work today? They had this surprise planned for me? Since when?I was still lost for words, when Nathan joined me by my side with a big smile on his face. “You have done something incredible for our company, Miss Lopez,” he said, in his business-like voice. “We just thought that it would be good to thank you for pitching to us your amazing idea and putting us back on top.”I wasn’t sure if I was supposed to laugh or cry. I had braced myself for a hostile, tense work environment but all I could see around me were smiling faces. It was unsettling and frankly… quite scary. Someone shoved a cup cake in my hands and something in me was triggered. I forced a sm
Enora:I wasn’t sure how long I was in my room for. I simply lay there, looking at the ceiling as my thoughts whirled past. I was a coward. I was such a coward for running away. I mean, he said that he was going to be with me, I should have known that that meant having access to all his money. I turned and grabbed a pillow, hugging it close to my chest that it cooled my skin. It just didn’t feel right. Bridget called me a golddigger. Was that what I was doing? I still didn’t understand how I was able to bag one of the richest men in America. I mean, I was just a plain Jane that was not even out of college yet. No class, no money, no family. I was just like a little dot in such a vast section of society.“I bet he is so mad at me right now,” I mumbled, pulling the pillow closer till it hurt my biceps. My stomach rumbled and soon, there was no ignoring my craving for food. I wasn’t even sure of what to eat. Maybe I could order out. My brooding session was ended by a sharp stabbing pai
