Sophia's POV

For a moment, neither of us said anything.

Ethan stood at the end of the corridor, still in his charcoal suit, his tie slightly loosened as though he'd come straight from a meeting he hadn't bothered to finish. His eyes moved from me, to the doctor, to the folder in the doctor's hand, and something unreadable flickered across his face before he settled it back into that calm, controlled expression he always wore in public.

"What are you doing here?"

His voice was quiet. Measured. B

  • My Billionaire Boss's Secret Heir   Chapter Sixty: Cold Shoulder

Sophia's POVI woke up starving. My stomach was already twisting in on itself before I'd even opened my eyes properly, and when I finally reached for my phone on the nightstand, the screen read eleven o'clock, far later than I usually let myself sleep.I hadn't eaten the night before. Not a bite. Ethan had left a plate on the counter, something warm and carefully made, and I'd walked straight past it and gone to bed hungry out of pure stubbornness, because eating it would have felt like forgiving something he hadn't actually apologized for yet. He'd accused me of sleeping with a stranger two nights ago and never once said the words I was sorry, and no amount of egg sauce was going to fix that particular silence. My stomach growled again, loud enough that I groaned out loud at the ceiling.Stubbornness, it turned out, came with consequences.I dragged myself out of bed, and somewhere in the middle of getting dressed I remembered Mini's text from the night before, the two of us had plan

  • My Billionaire Boss's Secret Heir   Chapter Fifty-Nine: Family Business

Sophia's POVI found my mother crying the moment I stepped into the room. She was sitting up against the pillows, a tissue crumpled in one hand, her eyes red and swollen in a way that made my stomach drop before I'd even said a word."Mom?""Why didn't you tell me?"Her voice cracked on the question, and I crossed the room quickly, sitting on the edge of the bed, reaching for her free hand."Tell you what?""About the wedding. About all of it." She wiped at her eyes with the back of her wrist, more frustrated than the gesture could hide. "I had to hear the real story from your husband, Sophia. From a man I met for the first time twenty minutes ago, sitting right where you're sitting now, telling me how strong you are and how proud I should be, and I'm sitting here realizing I don't actually know the first thing about any of it. Not the proposal. Not the wedding day. Not how any of it actually happened.""Mom, I told you—""You told me the headlines. You told me what the pictures alrea

  • My Billionaire Boss's Secret Heir   Chapter Fifty-Eight: Meeting Her Mother

Ethan's POVI hadn't planned on going to the hospital that morning. The visit had started as a passing thought over breakfast, something I mentioned to Sophia almost carelessly, and when she'd left early for a call with her editor before I could join her, I found myself still thinking about it long after she'd gone.I wanted to meet her mother properly. Not as a headline. Not as a rushed photograph outside a church. As her husband, sitting beside a hospital bed the way any decent son-in-law would.I told the driver to take me there before I'd fully decided it was a good idea. The hospital corridor smelled the same as every hospital corridor I'd ever walked through, sharp and clean and faintly unsettling, nurses moving briskly past with clipboards and quiet urgency. I found Room 312 without much trouble, Sophia had mentioned the number more than once over the past week, and knocked gently before stepping inside.Sophia's mother looked up from the pillow, surprise flickering across her

  • My Billionaire Boss's Secret Heir   Chapter Fifty-Seven: Uninvited

Sophia's POVThe doorbell rang less than twenty minutes after Mini's taxi pulled away.I assumed she'd forgotten something — her scarf, her phone charger, some piece of the chaos she always managed to leave scattered behind her — and opened the door still smiling, the warmth of the evening not yet fully worn off.It wasn't Mini.Penelope stood on the other side, dressed sharp and severe despite the hour, and beside her, a tall, silver-haired man with the same cold precision in his eyes I remembered from the gala. Ethan's father."Sophia." Penelope's smile was thin, practiced, entirely without warmth. "May we come in?"I glanced past them toward the empty street, half expecting a car to still be idling at the curb, some excuse for why they'd shown up unannounced at nine o'clock at night."Ethan's in his study," I said carefully. "I'll let him know you're here.""We're not here for Ethan," his father said, stepping past me into the entryway without waiting for an invitation, Penelope fo

  • My Billionaire Boss's Secret Heir   Chapter Fifty-Six: A Version of the Truth

Sophia's POV"Mini, I'm—"I stopped. The word sat right there, one breath away, and for a second I actually believed I might say it — the whole tangled truth, the contract, the trust, the pregnancy curled quiet beneath my ribs, all of it finally spilling out in one uncontrolled rush. Then I looked at her face, open and waiting and so certain she was about to catch something small enough to hold, and something in me pulled back at the last possible second."I'm not being fully honest with you," I said instead, which was true enough to not quite be a lie. "About how we started. Ethan and I."Mini's grip on my hands tightened. "Okay. Tell me.""We were seeing each other before any of this became public. Before the engagement announcement, before the gala." I kept my voice steady, watching her face carefully, feeling the shape of the story build itself as I spoke, half improvisation, half something closer to what I wished were true. "It wasn't some sudden whirlwind thing the way the headl

  • My Billionaire Boss's Secret Heir   Chapter Fifty-Five: Best Friend Don't Lie

Sophia's POVMini showed up at the penthouse a little after four, no warning beyond a single text — *I'm outside, let me up before I start yelling at your doorman* — and by the time I opened the door she was already mid-sentence, dragging a rolling suitcase behind her like she'd packed for a week instead of an afternoon visit."Don't even," she said, pushing past me into the entryway, dropping her bag with a thud. "I saw the headlines. I saw the airport photos. I saw you walking past reporters like a Bond villain, and I decided my best friend needed emergency in-person intervention, and also possibly wine.""I don't have wine.""Then we're getting some. But first—" She grabbed both my hands, turning me toward the light streaming through the windows, studying my face with the particular intensity only fifteen years of friendship could earn. "You look tired.""It's been a week.""It's been a *lot* of a week." She pulled me toward the couch, kicking off her shoes, settling in like she ow
