Watching the blood flow from his head, I felt a twisted sense of satisfaction.

I looked up at Chase and laughed manically.

"What? Do you regret it now?

"Look at me! My parents' deaths, the scars on my body, and the pain in my heart are all thanks to you!

"You are a fool, Chase Sean. Don't you think so?

"Your self-righteous judgment and your so-called revenge don't mean a damn thing when you find out that my father wasn't the culprit!

"And your regret means nothing! Can you undo the damage you've caused me? Can you?"

Confronted with my madness, Chase lowered his gaze. His expression was complex.

He dared not meet my eyes.

After a long silence, as I struggled with my emotions, this usually proud and arrogant man bowed his head before me.

"I was wrong, Evey. This is all my fault.
