Chapter 1

As a prominent figure in high society, Chase held his birthday celebration at the Ahnu Reservoir.

Many influential figures were present.

Upon my arrival, I saw a rising internet celebrity named Lily Charlotte snuggling up in Chase's arms, acting coquettishly.

Chase, however, paid no attention to her and remained seated nonchalantly. With one hand holding a glass of wine, his other hand rested on Lily's slender waist.

Lily glanced at me disdainfully.

"Who's this? I've never seen this one before."

"She's just a secretary. There's nothing to worry about."

Indeed, I was nothing more than an administrative secretary of the Sean Enterprise, completely out of place in this elite circle.

Had it not been for Chase, I would never have had the chance to meet these business tycoons.

Chuckling, Chase added. "And a plaything."

I didn't oppose it.

For three years, he never acknowledged me as his girlfriend or even a mistress.

He said, "This is what Evelyn is. No matter how I treat her, she will never leave me."

Whispers filled the air.

Lily covered her mouth and giggled, then turned to Chase and coquettishly asked.

"She loves you, doesn't she, Mr. Sean? How about offering her a chance to become your girlfriend?"

Raising an eyebrow, Chase glanced at me, picked up my bag nearby, and threw it into the reservoir. Then he said out of the blue.

"If Evelyn has the courage to jump in and retrieve the bag for me, I'll admit her as my girlfriend."

Almost as soon as Chase's words fell...

I immediately jumped.

Thoughts of the bracelet filled my mind...

Laughter erupted behind me.

"What is she doing? Can she even swim? She would really die for a title. How hilarious."

"That's something you don't understand. This is a private reservoir, so it's not that deep. Besides, with so many people present, do you think we would do nothing and let her drown?"

"Now that you mention it, I admit this Evelyn is quite a scheming woman. But again, what she just did was so embarrassing."

Amidst their mocking voices, I naturally didn't notice what Chase was doing.

At that moment, he panicked as he reached out his hand. It seemed that he was trying to grab my wrist but missed.

I swam to the bottom of the reservoir, holding my breath.

Earlier today, when I left, I put that bracelet in my bag, so I had to retrieve it.

Many claimed that I was Chase's number one fawner. They kept talking about my ridiculous intention to advance through marriage, despite my current position as a mere secretary.

However, no one knew that I had longed to leave every day for the past three years.

When I got deeper into the reservoir, I spotted the bracelet that had fallen out of my bag. It was broken into two pieces.

Curling my lips slightly, I confirmed that it was indeed shattered.

I reached forward and scooped up the two pieces of the bracelet.

But as I swam back, thorny water plants caught my thigh.

Pulling with force, I left a long gash on my thigh. Blood instantly smeared.

Nevertheless, I smiled faintly.

As long as I could get the broken bracelet, the pain meant nothing at all.

I gritted my teeth as I swam back with all my strength, enduring the pain.

When I came out, I encountered crowds of onlookers outside.

Someone teased Chase, "A bachelor no more. Right, Mr. Sean?"

Chase didn't respond. Instead, he looked at me and said with a slightly hoarse voice.

"Evelyn, I never thought you would actually..."

Then he saw me squatting in front of him, slowly spreading open my palm to reveal the bracelet that had broken into two pieces.

He froze for a moment.

He stared at me intently.

"Evelyn, what do you mean by this?"

I looked at him calmly, lifted my gaze, and replied slowly.

"As you said, Chase, you would let me go when the bracelet broke into two pieces. Now there it is. I hope you keep your word."

Chase paused.

I knew he remembered.
