Chapter 6

My mother's voice trembled.

I was in a panic, but I managed to stop my hands from shaking. A thought came to me that she must not be further provoked.

I reached out to her, but she evaded me.

"Mom, it's not what you think."

A suffocating silence hung in the air.

Chase licked his cheek from the inside with his tongue.

He stared at me with his black eyes.

"Evey, you didn't tell Mrs. Thea about us?

"Mrs. Thea, we've been with each other all the time. Everyone in the Ahnu City says your good daughter is madly in love with me."

"That's enough!" I interrupted Chase.

My mother, on the other hand, collapsed against the wall and burst out crying.

"Mom..."

I was terrified. I wanted to help her and explain everything, only to be stopped by her red eyes and loud threats.

"Stay where you are. Or I'll jump and kill myself right now!"
