BAB 12 I Call My Name

Since morning Mia has explored the room in Aurelia Castle. She was amazed by this building. Even though this castle is a new building, everything in the castle depicts medieval style. Grand but classic and extraordinary.

Now she can’t sleep after dinner. Her mind is always wandering to Blueberries. She still has no permission to take her personal belongings, including her cell phone. She thought about Matt, who must be worried. Not wanting to be lost in evil thoughts, Mia decided to leave the room, and maybe by going around the castle, she could divert her mind.

Mia remembered the library shown by a butler named Snow. Seeing a large room’s neatly arranged collection of books on shelves made Mia even more amazed by the castle.

Mia brought herself to the library in slow steps and was careful not to wake anyone at this late hour. Her steps stopped when she found a masculine figure facing the window, his back to her. With one hand in his pocket, while the other holding a crystal glass, Jaxon Bradwood is like a model in The Sexiest Men’s Alive in the world, a magazine.

If most women are attracted to men with six-pack abs and muscles in the arms, then the back of men is Mia’s favorite part. She was obsessed with the back of that masculine creature. A man with a broad, solid back, narrow hip, and round buttock is very sexy to her. The curves of the man’s back are stunning in Mia’s eyes. Especially Jaxon Bradwood’s back. Perfect.

Mia struggled to swallow while entering the dimly lit room with a silent step. The room was warm and smelled of pine and lemon. Only one yellow glowing table lamp lit the wide space. Fortunately, the garden beyond the wide windows in front of Jaxon has bright lights. The lights also divide the light into the room.

Jaxon’s gaze was drawn to Mia, sitting on the sofa beside him. The girl picked up a book from the top of the sofa that was open on page thirty.

They chose to remain silent to keep each other calm. The atmosphere in the room was pleasant enough. That’s why they decided to stay quiet.

Jaxon looked out the window before joining Mia on the sofa. It seemed that soon a storm would fall. Clusters of dark clouds swirled across the sky of Aurelia Castle. The flash of light followed the movement of the clouds.

Jaxon was busy turning the crystal glass in his hand while his eyes followed the movements of Mia’s tapering feminine fingers as she opened page after page of the book she was reading.

“Tomorrow, you can move out of this castle.” Finally, Jaxon couldn’t stand the silence. The atmosphere of wisdom actually made him slowly lose control and desire her even more.

Mia looked up, staring at Jaxon with a calm yet curious stare.

“You have the choice of working for GC if you want,” he said carefully.

Jaxon has many businesses, but he doesn’t want to offer them to Mia. The less the girl knows about his business and personal life, the better their future. Mind him.

“I want to choose my own job, Mr. Bradwood,” Mia replied carefully. Now she ignored the book and focused on the man in front of her.

“What work do you want to do?”

“In my recent place, my job was a waitress, and that’s the only job I’m good at.”

Jaxon’s brows knit together as if he didn’t like hearing that just now.

“You can go to college if you want. I’ll help you.”

“No, thank you. Dependent on others is not my nature. For now, being a waitress is enough. “

“Fine, but the apartment I gave you is non-negotiable.”

Jaxon could see the anger being held by the girl in front of him. He was amazed by how Mia was so careful to hide her anger. The girl acted as if she agreed to every argument, but beneath her obedience lay a rebellious attitude hidden in her beautiful eyes.

Mia started to move from the sofa. She couldn’t stand to linger under Jaxon’s intense gaze. The man made her nervous, but her attempt to escape failed when Jaxon pulled her onto his lap and held her back by wrapping his large, muscular arms around her.

“Are you afraid of me, Mia,” he whispered in his deep, masculine baritone voice.

Their lips almost touched, and the gazes of the two of them were on the same level. From this close, Mia can smell his scent.

“I’m not afraid of you, Mr. Bradwood, “Mia croaked as she swallowed.

Both of them know that Mia is not being honest.

“Can’t you call my name? There are three Bradwoods in Denver, and it doesn’t feel right to say that name as if you’re calling out another man’s name. “

Mia is stunned. She could feel a possessive tone from every word but didn’t want to think that far.

“All right ... Jaxon,” she replied with a heavy sight. Saying his name feels very personal.

Jaxon’s gaze turned soft, making Mia aware that the man in front of her was under the influence of alcohol. From his warm breath came the smell of whiskey. Jaxon touched her cheek gently with the back of his hand. It was when she saw the wounds on his knuckles.

Mia stroked the scars with her soft fingers. The fingers that had been stealing Jaxon’s attention while she opened the book page.

“Looks like I don’t want to know with the wound on your hand, right?”

The corners of Jaxon’s lips revealed a faint smile. The question was more convincing herself rather than looking for answers, so Jaxon chose to be silent.

“Why did you keep me in Denver?”

“Because that’s the only way I can protect you.” Jaxon stroked the sensitive part behind Mia’s ear with his nose.

Mia’s body shook at that sensual touch.

“Do you know what you would face if I were here?”

This time the two of them looked at each other with an intense gaze. Jaxon brought their faces closer together so that Mia could feel a warm gust on her cheeks when Jaxon spoke.

“Tell me what you are afraid of, Mia? Are you running from something? “

Mia chose to be silent. She looked away from Jaxon, who was staring at her incessantly. Jaxon’s fingertips touched her chin softly, bringing their face close, nose to nose.

“Don’t take your eyes off me. You don’t have to tell me everything. I’m asking because it concerns your safety. Now you’re in my protection, Mia. Come to me when you have fully trusted me. “

From the light in his eyes, Jaxon could read Mia’s nervousness.

Who are you hiding from, Mia? What made you change your identity?

It feels like Jaxon can’t help to ask, but it all takes time. Mia is not a woman who easily tells stories. And Jaxon will wait patiently, however long it takes her to open up.

Jaxon brought his face closer and was about to kiss her nose tip, but the sudden blast of thunderbolt made Mia scream instantly. Lightning began to flash around Aurelia Castle, shaking the entire castle building and causing several glasses to make a crashing sound.

Mia hid her head around Jaxon’s neck. Her body cowers with fear. Having this unusual reaction made Jaxon tighten his hug even more. He rubbed Mia’s back slowly while whispering soft, soothing words.

“I got you,” he whispered into Mia’s ear.

The scent of roses filled Jaxon’s lungs. Her honey hair was smooth between his coarse palms.

Mia’s body melted instantly. Jaxon’s soft and low voice made her feel comfortable and protected. Even though lightning flashed with its mighty thundering sound, Jaxon’s agent was able to dispel the terrible sounds. Jaxon endlessly stroked Mia’s back while whispering until Mia felt her eyelids heavy and unconsciously closed tightly.

It seemed that the storm had passed long enough that the two of them were reluctant to let go of each other and share warmth in the pouring rain outside the windows.
