Chapter 5

"Oh, by the way, Marco, there's a bee house there. Can you accompany me to check it?" the Señora asked, and they disappeared in front of us, leaving the Señorito and me.

I didn't know what to do or say when it was just the two of us and they left. So I decided to stand up from where I was and look at the floor.

Urgh! It's too awkward! I'm not the only one working on the ranch. Why didn't they choose someone else? But if I think about it, Marco and I are the only young ones, and most of the others are older, like Mom and Dad, and there are more male workers here.

"Are you still thinking about yesterday?" I heard the Señorito speak after a few minutes. I slowly raised my head and looked at him. Our gazes met once again. I couldn't bring myself to look away because it felt like his eyes had some kind of magnet!

He slowly walked closer to me, and I couldn't escape the scent of his intoxicating cologne! You know the feeling when you just want to embrace someone because they smell so good? That's what I felt now.

I clenched my fist and averted my gaze, but I was surprised by what he did next. He held my chin to lift my face and make our eyes meet again.

"Señorito," I called him softly. What does he want? Why is he doing this? I'm so nervous because I'm not used to this. Even Marco doesn't do this to me. In such close proximity, I could even smell his minty breath.

"Baby, remember this, you're too young for me, and what I saw the other day was nothing." Then he let go of my chin and took a step back to create some distance between us.

Tears welled up in my eyes upon hearing his words, and I tried my best to swallow them back, but my eyes betrayed me because I'm easily moved to tears. So, despite my efforts, tears still fell while he was looking at me.

He wouldn't understand because he's a man, and I'm a woman! I don't have any experience, so he shouldn't say that it's not a big deal! He should be more sensitive, especially since he said that I'm young!

He's handsome, but his attitude is terrible!

"Why are you frowning?" Clara asked me. I turned my head towards her from my sitting position while watching her approach. Sigh.

"It's as if the world has crashed down on you, huh? What happened?" she asked, coming closer to me. I decided to walk towards Julia's stable with the other horses because...

"Uhm, do you have any other instructions, Señorito?" I politely asked him, despite my sour mood. He was still busy with his cellphone, and I was hoping he would lift his gaze when he answered my question. So, I waited, but he just shook his head.

I kept staring at him for a few more minutes, hoping he would at least lift his gaze, but he didn't, so I realized that he probably didn't expect me to stay in my spot.

"You can go for now; I'll call if you I need something you have to do for me." After saying that, he swiveled his chair towards the glass wall, where they could see their vast land.

I bit my lower lip and then reluctantly left the library, where the Señorito's office was. I didn't realize it, but I was already walking towards Julia's stable and the other horses.

"I'm not hungry, just feeling a bit down," I replied. Clara nodded, and then she changed the topic.

"The gang is planning to go to the town fiesta tonight! They told me to bring you along once we're done here at the hacienda."

"I can come; I just need to ask permission from my dad—" But before I could continue, she interrupted me.

"You've used that excuse too many times! I've lost count of how many times you've said it but never showed up! Lena never joins our outings!"

"Take care and don't stay out too late." That's what my mom often says when I'm going somewhere.

"Alright, I haven't seen the other girls in a while! I miss them, but let me ask permission from the Señorito first before we leave later, just to make sure he doesn't have any tasks for me."

"Can I come too?" Clara said excitedly. "I want to see him too!" Is it just my imagination, or did her eyes sparkle while mentioning the Señorito? Sigh.

For sure she'll give me a cold look if I say anything negative about the Señorito.

"Uhm, sure." I gave an unsure response, but I couldn't recall the Señorito instructing me not to bring any of the housemaids along when I visit him at the Hacienda, so I think it should be fine.

"Why are you frowning?" Clara asked me. I turned to her from my seat and watched her walk towards me. Sigh.

"It's as if the world has crashed down on you, huh? What happened?" She came closer to me. I decided to head to the stable where the horses were because...

"Uhm, do you have any other instructions?" I asked politely, even though I felt my mood souring from what she said. She was busy with her cellphone, and I was still hoping she would lift her gaze when she answered my question, so I waited. However, she just shook her head.

I continued to stare at her for a few more minutes, hoping she would at least meet my gaze, but she didn't, and eventually, it seemed like she realized that I wasn't moving from my spot.

"You can go for now; I'll call if you I need something you have to do for me." After saying that, she swiveled her chair towards the glass wall, where they could see their vast land.

I bit my lower lip and reluctantly left the library, where the Señorito's office was. I didn't even realize that I had already started walking towards Julia's stable and the other horses.

"I'm not hungry, just feeling a bit down," I replied. Clara nodded, and then she changed the topic.
