Chapter 4

Perfect Timing
Prissy immediately teared up when she saw Jacob.

“Jacob, this madwoman rushed in to insult me and claimed that you gave her this apartment!

“You told me that she’s been pursuing you, but can you imagine? Just because she’s jealous that we’re together, she came here to cause a big fuss!”

His face turned pale, and he walked forward to grab my arm.

“Charlene, are you alright? Hear me out.”

I stood up and gave him a few hard slaps.

“Aren’t you generous? Giving my apartment away to someone else.

“If you don’t explain yourself to me, I’ll make sure that you regret what you did!”

I immediately ruined the wealthy image that Jacob had carefully constructed for a long time after I slapped him in front of the crowd.

He clenched his fists and pulled me aside with a cold expression.

“What’s wrong with you, Charlene? Since you’re not staying here, what’s wrong with helping other students?”

His rationale shocked me, and I was speechless for a moment.

“It doesn’t matter if I don’t live here. This apartment is mine. You don’t have the right to give it to Prissy, and you shouldn’t allow them to take apart my furnishings and ruin my expensive paintings!”

Jacob frowned and softened his tone. “Are you acting up just because of this?

“Charlene, when are you going to be more generous? You were born into a wealthy family, and it’s easy for you to get money. You won’t know how difficult it is for people like me and Prissy to live without money.

“It’s been Prissy’s lifelong dream to be a landlady and live a comfortable life. I’m just helping her to realize her dream. Why can’t you just cooperate?”

After Jacob said that, he looked at me with his hopeful eyes as he waited for me to agree.

“Go on and tell the other students that you’re trying to make a fool out of Prissy because you like me too much.”

I wore a mocking smile, as he was a complete disappointment.

Jacob was still clueless, and he kept nudging me.

I kicked him in response.

“This is my home, and I’m not doing charity for you and Prissy!”

Jacob grunted in pain and grabbed my wrist tightly.

“Are you jealous?”

After that, he put on a smile that he thought was charming.

“Charlene, Prissy is like a sister to me. Please don’t be so stingy.

“As long as you help me this time, I’ll willingly marry you right after you graduate!”

I was so furious that my chest tightened with pain.

I was the daughter of the wealthiest man in the country. I could marry anyone I wanted, so why did Jacob think I would lower my status to marry him?

Not wanting to argue with them anymore, I took Jacob’s phone to call the police.

“Tell all this to the police!”

Soon, the police answered the call. Jacob’s eyes widened as he snatched the phone away and pushed me with great force.

“Charlene, I asked you nicely. Why couldn’t you be more understanding?

“Everyone, Charlene likes me a lot, but she wants to call the police on me after I rejected her. She wants to report me for partitioning the apartment and renting it out to all of you. She’s threatening to sabotage my graduation and ruin my future. Tell me, what am I supposed to do?”

The other students exchanged glances and immediately came to a decision.

“Charlene, you witch! Who gave you the audacity to report us?”

“Jacob and Prissy are doing this to benefit us. Why are you creating a big fuss?”

“I’ll post you and your sugar daddy online, so the university will expel you!”

Everyone was furious, and they were pushing me. After what Jacob said, they even kicked and hit me!

They also tore my clothes apart. I tried to fight back, but all I received were more insults and hits.

Prissy and Jacob looked at me as they stood outside the circle of students.

When Jacob met my gaze, he smiled cruelly.

“Blame yourself for talking too much, Charlene. It looks like only the dead can keep a secret!”

I began to throw up blood from the beating.

Just then, two building management employees kicked the door open and entered.

“We’ve received complaints… Wait, what are all of you doing?!”

However, Jane came to her own conclusion. “I understand. You’re blaming me for not guiding this student properly. As a result, she did such a despicable thing. I’m handing her over to you, so you can do whatever you want with her!” After that, she pushed me toward my parents forcefully, and I almost tripped. My father looked incredibly upset as he reached out to hold me. Everyone around us gasped. “He’s protecting Charlene in front of his wife. Charlene must be really good in bed.” My mother rolled her eyes and retorted, “My daughter doesn’t have to stoop so low like the rest of you. It seems that all of you need to be educated on morals!”Following the revelation, no one spoke. I held my father’s hand and smiled at my parents. “Dad, Mom, thank goodness you arrived in time. They were accusing me of being a mistress and forcing me to sign an agreement.” The dean and others from management rushed over when they heard that the country’s wealthiest man was visiting the u

I glanced at the document. It outlined that I would have to bear the cost for all the damages to my apartment. It also demanded that I compensate every student for emotional damage by paying for their air-conditioning units in their dorm rooms. Prissy could tell that I was not signing, so she stepped forward and scolded me, “We lived harmoniously in the apartment, and everyone was happy. It’s your fault that everyone has to move back to their dorms now.“Do you know how hot it is? If any student gets heatstroke, it’ll be your fault. Hurry up and sign the document. Then, order the air-conditioning units for the dorms!” I laughed in disbelief. What were these people thinking? What made them think I would follow their instructions?I tore the agreement apart and threw the papers at Prissy. “Dream on!“Jacob, Prissy, you’re the ones who trespassed on private property and caused major damage. Now, you’re humiliating me and accusing me over a few photos to threaten me into paying.

I could not help but laugh. “You used my money, and you dare question me with that attitude? Your audacity truly impresses me.“Jacob, I might’ve been blind in the past, but from now on, I’m cutting ties with you. You can either pay me back or go to prison. It’s your choice.”Jacob was breathing heavily from anger. But I left without sparing him another glance. I had won the competition’s grand prize, but I had not shared this good news with my supervisor. I was so tired from handling the mess at my apartment. After I visited my supervisor, I went to a hotel and immediately fell asleep. It was dawn when I woke up from the endless sound of notifications from my phone. I opened my text messaging app in a daze and found text messages from my best friend. [Charlene, hurry up and look at the campus forum. They’re all criticizing you![Charlene, wake up! I heard that the Student Union’s president reported you to the university and requested them to expel you!]Before I could

Prissy’s face immediately turned pale. She leaned against the wall and slowly slipped to the floor. “This wasn’t my idea. I was lied to. Why are you blaming me?”I sneered. “You can discuss among yourselves. If I don’t receive payment from you, you’ll have to go to prison!” The dumbfounded students were shocked, and their jaws dropped comically. “All of us were lied to! Jacob was using Charlene’s apartment to make himself seem rich!”“I heard that Prissy only agreed to be his girlfriend when he showed up with the deed. He’s disloyal, and she’s greedy! What a match made in hell!” “Charlene, how are you this rich? Tell us.” Someone tried to change the subject and get in my good graces by joking. I glared at them. “My wealth is none of your business. I don’t have to tell you about it.“All of you had better discuss and figure out who should be responsible for this!” After that, the police arrived. They were furious when they saw my dismantled apartment, and they broug

The students who were beating me up abruptly stopped out of fear after they saw someone coming in. I wiped the blood from the corner of my mouth with my sleeve. I was panting as I looked at the building manager, Ben Taylor. “I’m the owner. Please call the police. They’re trespassing—”Before I could finish speaking, Jacob quickly walked forward and blocked me. He then passed Ben a cigarette. “Can we talk?” My apartment was located in the city’s prime location. The building management fee was also the most expensive in the area, so Ben did not take the bribe. He immediately stopped Jacob and helped me up. “Don’t do this. Who are you? Why are you beating her up?“Ms. Anderson, are you alright? I received complaints from your neighbors, so I came over to investigate. What’s going on?”My face was swollen, and I opened my eyes weakly. Fortunately, it really was Ben. Ben had always been helpful to the residents in the building. He would help us take out the trash and collect
