A Heart That Refuses to Yield

"ROWAN!"

Lyra's scream echoed through the battlefield.

The Beta collapsed to the ground, blood soaking through his tunic as the black crystal dagger protruded from his chest.

Kael's silver eyes widened in horror.

"Rowan!"

He lunged toward his oldest friend, but the council elder who had stabbed Rowan leaped backward with unnatural speed.

His gray robes fell away, revealing black armor etched with crimson runes.

The old man everyone knew as Elder Garrick smiled coldly.

"You trusted me for thirty years, Alpha."

"What a foolish mistake."

Kael's jaw tightened.

"You murdered your own people."

"They were never my people," Garrick replied. "I pledged my loyalty to the Blood King long before you inherited the Mooncrest throne."

Gasps rippled through the warriors.

A respected elder...

A trusted advisor...

The traitor had been hiding in plain sight.

The Shadow Hunter laughed.

"Now you understand."

"This war was over before it began."

He raised his dagger.

"Kill them."

The remaining Blood Wolves surged forward.

Mooncrest's warriors met them with furious determination.

The clearing exploded into chaos.

Steel clashed against steel.

Wolves collided in flashes of silver and crimson.

The forest shook with deafening howls.

Kael knelt beside Rowan.

The Beta's breathing was shallow.

"Stay with me," Kael ordered.

Rowan forced a weak grin.

"You... always did... sound bossy."

"Don't talk."

Kael carefully reached for the dagger.

Before he could pull it free, the pack healer cried out.

"No!"

"If you remove it now, he'll bleed to death."

Kael froze.

For the first time since Lyra had met him...

Fear filled the Alpha's eyes.

Lyra dropped beside Rowan.

"There has to be something we can do."

The healer shook her head.

"That blade was forged with Bloodstone."

"It poisons both body and spirit."

"There is no cure."

No cure.

The words echoed inside Lyra's mind.

The pendant around her neck suddenly grew warm.

A gentle voice whispered.

"There is always another path."

Her mother's voice.

Lyra looked down at her glowing Queen's Mark.

Without thinking, she placed her hand over Rowan's wound.

"What are you doing?" Kael asked.

"I... I don't know."

Silver light seeped from her palm.

It flowed into Rowan's body like liquid moonlight.

The Bloodstone dagger trembled.

Then—

It shot out of the wound by itself.

Dark smoke poured from the blade before dissolving into the air.

The clearing fell silent.

Rowan inhaled sharply.

Color slowly returned to his face.

The poison was gone.

"He... he's alive," the healer whispered in disbelief.

Every warrior stared at Lyra.

No one had ever seen magic like this.

Across the battlefield, Garrick's smile vanished.

"The Queen's Blessing..."

"It was supposed to be lost forever."

The Shadow Hunter's expression darkened.

"We've underestimated her."

He looked toward the forest.

"Retreat."

Garrick frowned.

"The Blood King ordered us to capture her."

"And I won't return empty-handed."

"You'll return dead if we stay."

Reluctantly, Garrick stepped back.

Black mist swirled around him.

Before disappearing, he looked directly at Lyra.

"This isn't over."

"The Blood King is already marching."

The two villains vanished into the darkness.

The surviving Blood Wolves followed.

Only silence remained.

As dawn broke, the wounded were carried back to Mooncrest.

The victory felt hollow.

Too many warriors had fallen.

Inside the healer's lodge, Rowan finally opened his eyes.

The room erupted with relieved laughter.

"You really scared us," Lyra said.

Rowan managed a weak smile.

"I guess... I owe the Queen my life."

Kael stood quietly in the corner.

Watching Lyra.

She had risked everything to save his Beta.

To save his family.

When their eyes met, something unspoken passed between them.

Respect.

Gratitude.

And something neither of them was ready to name.

That evening, the elders gathered once more.

This time, they all bowed deeply before Lyra.

"No one can deny it any longer," one elder said.

"You carry the Queen's Blessing."

Another elder stepped forward carrying an ancient wooden chest bound in silver chains.

"For centuries," she said softly, "this has remained sealed."

"It can only be opened by the true Wolf Queen."

Lyra approached cautiously.

As soon as her fingertips touched the lid...

The chains unlocked by themselves.

The chest creaked open.

Inside rested a magnificent silver crown, its delicate branches shaped like intertwining moonlit vines.

Beneath the crown lay a weathered scroll tied with blue ribbon.

Lyra carefully unrolled it.

The parchment contained only one sentence.

'When the crown chooses its Queen, seek the Temple of the First Moon before the Blood King finds it.'

Kael's expression changed instantly.

"The Temple..."

One elder paled.

"I thought it was only a legend."

Another whispered, "If the Temple still exists, it holds the source of the Wolf Queen's true power."

Before anyone could speak again, the ground trembled violently.

A young scout burst through the doors, panting.

"Alpha!"

Kael turned.

"What happened?"

The scout swallowed hard.

"Our border guards..."

"They've spotted an army."

"How large?" Kael asked.

The scout's face turned white.

"Too large to count."

"And they're carrying the Blood King's banner."

The room fell into stunned silence.

The war had finally begun.
