Chapter 49

The Emperor of the Void

The battlefield fell deathly silent.

No sword moved.

No spell was cast.

Everyone stared at the creature standing where the High Chancellor had been only moments before.

Its skin was pale as moonlight, yet veins of living darkness pulsed beneath it. Two long black horns curled from its head like a twisted crown, while its violet eyes glowed with an intelligence older than the world itself.

The air around it distorted.

Even time seemed to hesitate.

Varkor remained on one knee.

"My Emperor..."

The creature smiled.

"You've served me well."

Its voice was calm, almost gentle.

That made it even more terrifying.

---

Ethan tightened his grip on the Eternal King's Blade.

"You murdered my father."

The Emperor shook his head.

"No."

"I admired your father."

"He was the greatest king this world had ever known."

Queen Selene's voice trembled.

"Then why?"

The Emperor looked at her with pity.

"Because he refused my offer."

"What offer?" Aria demanded.

"To unite our worlds."

The Emperor spread his arms.

"I offered him eternal life."

"Unlimited knowledge."

"A kingdom that would never know death."

"He called it slavery."

A faint smile crossed the Emperor's face.

"He was brave."

"But foolish."

---

The Emperor lifted one hand.

The air shimmered.

A vision appeared before everyone.

It showed the royal palace twenty-three years ago.

King Aldric stood in the throne room, his golden armor stained with blood.

He faced the Emperor alone.

Behind him stood Queen Selene, protecting the two young princes.

"I will never kneel," King Aldric declared.

The Emperor sighed.

"I had hoped you'd choose differently."

Their battle shook the palace.

The King fought with impossible courage, forcing the Emperor backward again and again.

At last, Aldric plunged the Fang of Kings into the Emperor's chest.

The Emperor smiled even as the blade pierced him.

"You've already lost."

The King looked confused.

"What?"

The Emperor pointed toward the shadows.

Members of the Royal Council emerged.

One of them struck the King from behind with a cursed spear.

The Emperor hadn't defeated the King.

The King's own council had betrayed him.

The vision faded.

---

Queen Selene collapsed to the ground.

"Aldric..."

General Kael slammed his fist against the earth.

"We protected traitors..."

"For generations."

---

The Emperor looked toward Ethan.

"Your father could have escaped."

"But he chose to stay behind."

"He gave his life..."

"So that yours could continue."

Ethan's eyes filled with tears.

His father...

His brother...

Both had sacrificed everything for him.

---

Aria stepped beside Ethan.

She gently placed her hand over his.

"You don't carry their sacrifices alone."

"We carry them together."

Their fingers intertwined.

The Moon Crown floated above Aria.

The Eternal King's Blade glowed in Ethan's hand.

The two relics resonated.

Silver.

Gold.

Crimson.

The lights merged into a brilliant white radiance that spread across the battlefield.

Every warrior felt warmth replace fear.

The wounded found the strength to stand.

The frightened found courage.

Even the Blood Wolves lifted their heads.

Hope had returned.

---

The Emperor frowned for the first time.

"So..."

"The ancient blessing has awakened."

The First Alpha appeared beside Ethan.

"It has."

The Emperor sighed.

"I was afraid of this."

The First Alpha smiled.

"You still remember fear."

"I remember respect."

The Emperor answered.

"And I respect only one thing."

He looked directly at Ethan.

"A king willing to sacrifice everything."

---

Without warning, the Emperor disappeared.

He reappeared before Ethan in less than a heartbeat.

CLANG!

The Eternal King's Blade blocked a black spear that had appeared in the Emperor's hand.

The impact shattered the ground beneath them.

Ethan slid backward, leaving a deep trench in the earth.

"So fast..." Ethan whispered.

The Emperor smiled.

"Better."

"You've become interesting."

---

The two clashed again.

Silver and darkness collided.

Each strike sent shockwaves across the valley.

Mountains cracked.

Clouds scattered.

The Void Legion and the united army stopped fighting entirely.

They could only watch.

This duel would decide everything.

---

Aria wanted to help, but the Grand Sage stopped her.

"If you interfere..."

"The sacred bond will break."

She clenched her fists.

"So I just watch?"

"No."

The sage looked toward the First Alpha.

"Your role is even more important."

---

The First Alpha stepped toward Aria.

"The Moon Queen has one final trial."

He touched her forehead.

Instantly, Aria vanished in a flash of silver light.

"Ethan!" she cried.

But she was gone.

Ethan's heart skipped a beat.

"Where is she?"

The First Alpha's voice echoed across the battlefield.

"She walks the Path of the Moon."

"If her heart wavers..."

"The sacred bond will shatter."

"If it breaks..."

"The Eternal King's Blade will lose its light."

The Emperor laughed softly.

"So even now..."

"...love remains your greatest strength."

His smile widened.

"And your greatest weakness."

He raised his spear toward the sky.

The endless Void Legion roared as one.

Then, from behind the Emperor...

A second figure slowly stepped out of the darkness.

It wore the exact face of King Aldric.

His armor.

His voice.

Even his gentle smile.

Ethan's breath caught in his throat.

"Father...?"

The figure opened its eyes.

They glowed violet.

"My son..."

"Will you raise your sword..."

"...against your own father?"
