Chapter 20

The Gathering Storm

The silver beam that erupted from Ariana's Moon Crown pierced the heavens, lighting up the crimson sky.

Across the continent, every werewolf felt it.

In forgotten mountain villages, old Alphas dropped to one knee.

Deep within icy caves, ancient wolves opened eyes that had been closed for centuries.

Even those who had long abandoned hope whispered the same words.

"The Moon Queen has returned."

---

Back at the Moon Temple, the atmosphere had become tense.

The scout's warning echoed in everyone's minds.

Fifty thousand wolves.

An army unlike anything seen in generations.

Kael gathered his commanders around a massive stone table carved with an ancient map of the kingdoms.

"Our borders won't hold if they attack from every direction," one commander said grimly.

"They'll crush us within days."

Another pointed to the western mountains.

"We should evacuate the villages."

"No," Kael replied firmly.

"If we run now, fear will spread faster than the enemy."

Ariana studied the map in silence.

As her fingers brushed the ancient carvings, glowing silver lines appeared across the stone.

Hidden paths...

Secret fortresses...

Long-forgotten sanctuaries.

The elders gasped.

"The map is revealing itself!"

"It only responds to the true Moon Queen."

One glowing mark stopped at a lonely island surrounded by black waters.

The Blood King's expression changed immediately.

"The Isle of Eternal Wolves..."

Kael looked at him.

"You know it?"

"It was the home of the First Guardians."

"The strongest warriors ever blessed by the Moon Goddess."

"They swore to awaken only when the Moon Queen returned."

Hope flickered in the room.

"If they're still alive..." Kael murmured.

"They could turn the tide of the war."

The Blood King shook his head.

"It won't be easy."

"The island is protected by trials."

"Only someone worthy can enter."

Ariana looked at the glowing mark.

"I'll go."

Kael immediately objected.

"It's too dangerous."

"So is staying here," she answered softly.

"If those guardians truly exist, we need them."

The Blood King nodded.

"I'll guide you."

Kael's jaw tightened.

"I don't trust you."

"You don't have to," the Blood King replied. "But I made a promise to protect her five hundred years ago."

"I'm not breaking it again."

Before Kael could respond, the temple doors burst open.

A young girl stumbled inside.

She couldn't have been older than ten.

Her silver hair was covered in dirt, and her clothes were torn.

She collapsed before Ariana.

"Please..."

"You have to save my village..."

Everyone rushed toward her.

Kael gently helped the child sit up.

"What happened?"

The girl's lips trembled.

"They came during the eclipse."

"Monsters wearing wolf skins."

"They weren't alive..."

"They weren't dead either."

"They killed everyone."

Ariana's heart sank.

"Did anyone survive?"

The little girl slowly raised her hand.

In her fist was a black crystal pulsing with crimson light.

"They told me to give this to the Moon Queen."

The moment Ariana touched it, a wave of dark energy burst from the crystal.

A voice echoed through the chamber.

"Enjoy your reunion while it lasts."

"Before the next full moon..."

"I will take the Heart of the Abyss."

"And when I do..."

"The gods themselves will kneel."

The crystal shattered into black dust.

The child screamed.

Dark symbols spread across her arms.

Her eyes rolled back, glowing crimson.

The Blood King reacted instantly, drawing a circle of blood-red energy around her.

"It's a curse!"

The child floated into the air as black smoke poured from her mouth.

A terrifying creature with glowing red eyes emerged from the darkness.

Its voice was deep and unnatural.

"The Shadow Prophet sends his regards."

With a horrifying shriek, the creature lunged straight at Ariana.

Kael threw himself in front of her, while the Blood King unleashed a torrent of crimson flames.

The collision shook the temple, sending everyone sprawling across the floor.

When the smoke finally cleared...

The creature was gone.

The little girl lay unconscious but alive.

The Blood King's face had turned pale.

Kael stared at him.

"What was that thing?"

The Blood King answered in a whisper.

"A Harbinger."

"The Shadow Prophet has begun opening the gates between this world... and the Abyss."

Ariana looked toward the crimson moon shining through the broken roof.

The war had already begun.

But now she understood something even more terrifying.

They were no longer fighting only an army of wolves.

They were fighting an ancient darkness that had waited thousands of years to return.

And every passing hour brought that darkness one step closer to freedom.
