Matthew

“How long will you keep this, Matthew?”

A resounding voice hurt my ears. I rubbed them, focusing my vision towards the door. A lady was standing.

“Nothing will happen if you keep this. You’re just hurting yourself.”

I chuckled while chugging another shot directly from the bottle.

“Oh yeah? Aren’t you the one who ruined everything?”

I responded not caring if those words would pierce right through Claire’s heart.

“I’m just worried about you, Matthew. Ever since you discovered Mandy’s marriage, you—”

“Shut the fuck up, Claire,” I shouted, intercepting her lectures. “I don’t need your pathetic lectures.”

But Claire was very pushy. She walked straight inside my home office. Her gaze met the half-empty bottle of whiskey I’ve been chugging for a while.

“I understand if you don’t want to hear the truth. But at least hand me that bottle.”

Rage suddenly filled my hands. I gripped it so hard and threw it to her side. The glass shattered instantly, and the broken pieces scattered all over

MandyI watched them walk away. Each step echoed along with the silence and cold darkness embracing my skin. Each sound of their footsteps tugged at my chest and whispered in my ears, gentle but wistful.None of them looked back. Maybe our minds were connected. I knew if they turned even once, none of us would leave.A light but comforting pain gently stroked my heart. I decided to walk back inside the gate. I’m afraid I wouldn’t have enough restraint over my legs to chase them.I took the sudden shift of another page of my life lightly. It was heavier than I thought, harder than I could imagine.Things started to sink in. I really crossed the line of married life. My only regret was not spending more time with my dad and Abbie.“I guess it’s gonna be you and me now,” I whispered to myself, rubbing my hands gently around my tummy. The night was colder than usual. The crickets were a bit more cheerful. The moon peeked through the clouds that served as a street lamp beneath my feet. The

MandyThe crazy day was almost over. The wedding ended smoothly after the incident. After a short feast on a long table with everybody, the Black Moon council excused themselves under the pretense of pack duties. But Lucas sees through them. The main reason was certainly about Elder Ron’s funeral. But still, he let them honor the contribution he made to the Black Moon pack through the years of his life. He even ordered to make sure everything was provided. From the moment the party started until the last guest left the reception hall, my father and Abbie stayed by my side. However, it’s time for them to leave everything behind. I stood at the gate that separates me from everything. This border would be my new land and home. And in this corner, I cannot take Abbie nor my father with me.“Are you sure you’re gonna be okay?” Abbie asked, almost whispering under her breath.I stared at her hesitant about my own words. My chin forced a nod almost out of my will.“Things are still crazy in

MandyI stood frozen, shoulders slightly hunched, as Lucas approached my father. His footsteps bounced back in the four corners of the hall.“I apologize, Alpha Marcel, for the commotion.”At first, my father stuttered. The words on his mouth stumbled upon each other. Maybe it was the ending he didn’t anticipate. Like me, it wasn’t easy to digest everything that happened before our eyes. From being cornered by their harsh, cruel tongue to being wolves possessing great honor and respect. The same as Abbie, I avoided making eye contact with him. This man saved me. But at what cost? An image of Elder Ron’s twisted head played in my head that I couldn’t avoid. So I shook my head lightly to shove the image away. Before my father could finally speak a word, Lucas interrupted him.“I never heard you speak any objection. Does it mean you trust every word that I’ve said?”He looked at my tummy, serious and cold, pointing it out. “Do you believe your daughter is carrying my heir?”“A fellow Alp

Mandy“Step forward, Elder Ronofer!” Lucas demanded with unquestionable authority. At this point, Elder Ron had already gained a bit of his strength. Without the assistance of his co-councils, he stepped forward careful with each step. Even his humble gaze submitted to their Alpha’s presence.I know I shouldn’t feel this way. Every insult he threw at me just a while ago was enough to be satisfied with the consequence of his actions. But I am not as cruel as the others who find joy in revenge.A dull ache in my heart appeared. A flicker of pity crossed my chest for this poor old man. The council gave each other a gaze that spoke through the silence. Beta Garreth gave way and stood from behind.“You’ve committed two crimes on the day of my celebration, Elder Ronofer.”Elder Ron bowed more, almost burying his head on the ground.“First… you accused me of lying in front of everybody.” Lucas rolled up his sleeve to the height of his forearms. Then he added, “Second, you embarrassed me by

Mandy“Elder Ron… please help us convince the Alpha.” A soft and desperate voice erupted from the crowd. The crowd of councils instinctively parted to create a path for someone. Then, an old man appeared. His silver hair was neatly combed. That gaze against Lucas probably held years of wisdom. He stood with a slightly bent posture dressed in a fine tailored black suit.“Alpha Lucas…” He called with a low and smooth voice. “Do not tell me you’re in love with this woman?”Loud murmurs exploded. Lucas scoffed but didn’t answer a word.“There’s no proper explanation for your actions, Alpha. Aside from this toxic substance called love.”Elder Ron threw a gaze on me. His cold assessing eyes didn’t miss anything. Unblinking and focused. It sliced through me, sending shivers down my spine. The way his eyes locked spoke a lot of words. He clicked his tongue, still not turning away those damning eyes.“Please pardon my words. But those feelings are probably clouding your judgments, Alpha.
