I haven’t been able to stop thinking about him. His voice, his eyes, the way he seemed to tear through the air between us—everything is etched into my mind like a dream I can’t wake from. But what haunts me most are his words: *“I’m a problem you don’t need.”*

Maybe he’s right. Maybe I should forget him, move on, pretend I never saw him. But… I can’t. Something inside me refuses to let him go.

I’m sitting in the town café—a small, crowded place filled with the smell of coffee and fresh bread, where conversations drift through the air like a constant murmur. My friend Danna is talking about something—a movie she saw last night, or maybe some new scandal involving a neighbor, I’m not sure, because I’m barely listening. My eyes keep wandering to the window, drawn to the forest on the other side of the street.

“Amelia, are you even listening to me?” Danna snaps her fingers in front of my face, breaking through my thoughts.

“What? Oh—yes, of course. Something about… Mrs. Rodríguez?”

She rolls her eyes.

“That wasn’t it at all, but never mind.” She studies me, tilting her head as if she can read my mind. “Are you okay? You’ve been acting weird for days.”

“I’m fine. I just… haven’t been sleeping well.”

It’s a lie, as thin and fragile as I feel.

Danna frowns, clearly unconvinced, but she doesn’t press. I’m grateful, because I have no idea how to explain that my sleepless nights have a name—and eyes that burn like liquid fire.

When we finally leave the café, I feel restless, as if something is about to happen. Danna says goodbye and heads for her house, while I walk in the opposite direction, toward the forest. I don’t plan to go in, I tell myself. I just want to… be near it. It’s a stupid excuse, but I can’t help it.

And then I feel it again—that presence. Like a shiver down my spine, a tension in the air that hums beneath my skin. My heart races as I turn, searching the trees.

“You don’t learn, do you?”

His voice is low, a whisper, but enough to make my whole body tense. I see him step from the shadows, just as imposing as I remember, hands tucked into his pockets, an exasperated expression on his face.

“Neither do you, it seems,” I reply, trying to sound composed, though my heart is pounding out of control.

His lips curve slightly into something that might be a smile, but I’m not sure. He stops a few steps from me, as if drawing an invisible line neither of us should cross.

“You shouldn’t be here.”

“Neither should you.”

His jaw tightens. For a moment, I think he’s going to argue—but instead, he surprises me with a question.

“Why do you keep coming back?”

I open my mouth to answer, only to realize I don’t have a good reason—at least not one I can say aloud without sounding insane. So I tell a half-truth.

“Because I want to know who you are.”

He watches me in silence, his gaze so intense it feels like it pierces through every corner of my soul. Finally, he exhales and shakes his head.

“Shadow.”

A slight ache tightens in my chest at the sound of his name. I don’t know why, but it suits him—strong, mysterious.

“Amelia,” I say, as if he’d asked, though he clearly didn’t.

Shadow takes a step closer, and though I shouldn’t, I don’t move away. I’m too caught in the pull of his presence.

“This can’t happen, Amelia. You and I… we’re from different worlds.”

“That’s not for you to decide.”

His laugh—low, humorless—takes me by surprise.

“You have no idea what you’re saying.”

“Then explain it to me.”

He looks at me, his eyes burning with something I can’t name. For a moment, I think he might. I think he’ll open the door and let me see the truth of his world. But instead, he shakes his head and steps back.

“It’s better if you don’t know.”

“Why don’t you let *me* decide that?”

The silence that follows is heavy, thick with something I can’t define. Shadow turns, as if he’s about to leave again—but this time, I can’t let him.

“Shadow, wait.”

My hand reaches out before I can stop myself, and when I touch his arm, it’s as if the world holds its breath. He freezes, and so do I, stunned by the heat of his skin through the fabric of his shirt.

“Please… don’t go.”

My voice is soft, but it’s enough. He turns back to me, his eyes meeting mine—and the fire in them seems less contained now, more… vulnerable.

“You don’t understand what you’re asking.”

“Then help me understand.”

The conflict in his face is clear, as if he’s fighting a war inside himself. He closes his eyes and takes a slow breath, as if making a choice he can’t undo.

“I warn you, Amelia… once you cross this line, there’s no turning back.”

I don’t hesitate.

“I already have, Shadow.”

His gaze softens, but there’s a darkness in it—a warning, a promise—that tells me this won’t be easy, that maybe I shouldn’t be here. But it’s too late.

And when his hand brushes mine, when our fingers entwine for the briefest moment, I know there’s nothing in this world that will make me turn back.

The peace that surrounds us is fleeting. The darkness recedes, but it never truly vanishes. The glow of victory is brief, and in its place comes a strange, unsettling feeling. I can’t quite name it, but it’s as if we’ve touched something dangerous—something still pulsing in the shadows, waiting for its chance.Shadow remains by my side, his gaze deeper now, filled with an intensity I’ve never seen before. A heavy silence coils around us.He’s changed.Something in him has shifted. And something in me has too.I glance at him as we walk, the weight of his presence pressing against me. He’s here, close, but there’s a barrier now—an invisible wall, a distance that didn’t exist before. It’s like we’re balancing on a tightrope, holding our breath, not knowing what comes next.My heart races uncontrollably, not from fear, but from love. Because despite everything we’ve been through, all we’ve endured, the need to be near him has never burned stronger.“What do we do now?” I ask, breaking th

  • My Dark Desirable Wolf   64. The Darkness Within Us

The battle is a whirlwind of shadows and light, a clash of forces as old as time itself. Shadow moves with supernatural grace, his eyes glowing with an intensity I’ve never seen before. Every strike he delivers is precise, fueled by contained rage, by pain and longing. But that same rage is what's driving us to the brink, the very thing threatening to consume us all.The figure before us—this malignant presence that feels like the shadow of something far older and far more dangerous—fights back with a violence that steals the breath from my lungs. It’s not human. And I realize now, it’s not even what I thought it was. It’s something else. Something far greater and darker. Yet even with all its power, I sense it doesn’t have control over what’s happening. The fury burning within Shadow is making him unpredictable, and if we can’t stop him, we’ll lose more than this battle—we’ll lose everything we’ve built.I keep watching, heart in my throat, body taut with tension, waiting for somethi

  • My Dark Desirable Wolf   63. The Long Night

The silence becomes unbearable, broken only by the whisper of the storm still howling outside, as if the whole world were holding its breath, waiting for something to shatter the growing tension. The figure before us steps forward, and yet—in its eyes—I glimpse a fleeting doubt, a flicker of hesitation that offers a sliver of hope, though I know better than to trust it.The figure halts, studying us with a smile that twists even further, crueler now. That smirk, so full of superiority, makes my blood boil. Whatever it’s here to destroy, whatever it thinks it can unravel in us—it’s too confident. But I won’t let it win. Shadow has been my shelter, my light in a darkness that has always haunted me, and I won’t let it all fall apart now.My breath quickens. My body coils with tension, heart hammering—but there’s something more. Something I don’t recognize at first… until I do. Shadow is changing. Something inside him is about to break free, and though my mind screams to be afraid, someth

  • My Dark Desirable Wolf   62. The Last Refuge

The shadow outside the door moves with a swiftness that knocks the breath out of me. My senses sharpen—instinct screams that the battle is here, that there’s no turning back now. Fear mixes with adrenaline, and though my body stands ready, something inside me trembles—as if it already knows that what’s coming is greater than anything we’ve ever faced.Shadow grabs my hand, his grip almost painful—but it’s exactly the strength I need to stay grounded. His fingers interlace with mine, as if they're the only anchor we have left. His breathing is uneven, and I see the tension in his jaw, the reflection of the war he’s fighting inside himself.“I don’t want you to get hurt, Emily,” he says. But it’s not a warning—it’s a plea. A plea I never thought I’d hear from him. Shadow’s voice is raw, like the weight of our love—this forbidden, relentless love—is beginning to crack something deep within. And for a second, I wonder if he’ll be able to keep fighting. If this battle, this war, will be th

The air grows even heavier, as if the house itself is holding its breath. I can feel it—the weight of what’s about to come. The bond between Shadow and me, that tether pulling us tightly together, feels like the only thing keeping us upright. But I know it won’t be enough if we don’t face what’s stalking us. And that terrifies me more than I’d ever admit. We part slowly, the kiss still burning on our lips like a spark caught in the dark. Shadow watches me—his eyes, like shattered mirrors, reflect a torment he never shows, a vulnerability that consumes me every time I see him up close.“They're looking for us,” he says. His voice is low, calm—but it’s a calm that feels more like a mask than a certainty. That word—looking—cuts deep. Because I know he’s not just talking about those chasing us down physically, but about those who want to destroy what we have. What we are.The violent sound of doors slamming open and shut makes me jump. The ticking of the wall clock grows sharper, louder—s

The day fades slowly, like a nightmare that still haunts you even after you’ve woken. The house where we’ve taken refuge feels like an island adrift in a raging sea. Every room, every corner is steeped in that lingering sense of desperation—that time is running out, and fate is approaching with slow, silent, heavy steps. And yet, despite everything, Shadow and I remain here, fighting, as if this place were our final breath before the fall. The atmosphere is dense, charged with tension. The air itself feels thick, as though each breath carries the weight of all the unspoken questions we refuse to ask. I know he’s battling something inside himself, tormented by a past that twists and writhes in his mind. But I refuse to let him go. I can’t. I won’t.I sit across from him, our hands nearly touching, the space between us an invisible chasm—felt even if unseen.
