Chapter 1

001 - Dying

"What the fck are you up to?" Oskar cursed. "You took advantage when she was unconscious."

"If I hadn't done it, she wouldn't have received any treatment at the military hospital," Kylian replied.

"You should have handed her over to us, we would have taken her. Are you looking down on us?" Oskar snapped.

I could only stay silent. I didn't know what to do in a situation like this. I didn't expect to have this problem.

The fact is that Kylian Arthur married me while I was unconscious. He did it so that I could get treatment at the best hospital on this base. Military hospital.

"Calm down, Oskar." Logan grabbed Oskar's shoulder.

"Why? What he did was clearly wrong. He showed no respect for Duna at all. Why did the Base Council agree to his request?" Oskar's voice remained high.

"Yes, but it has already happened. He is strong, and the Base Council would not want to lose someone as strong as him." Logan answered in a clear tone.

"Ish." Oskar still looked annoyed.

"All we can do now is give Duna time. Maybe she'll be a good fit for Arthur. Who knows, right?" This time Logan looked at me.

Logan asked me in a friendly tone, "How about it, Duna? Don't you like him too?"

I can see Kylian pursing his lips as if he were amused.

"Okay." I nodded and said in a low voice, "I'll try it, maybe it'll work."

"Duna..." Oskar snorted. He looked disappointed and Kylian laughed silently.

"But I won't let Duna leave our mercenary. We don't know what those people will do to Duna there. Just like that time, someone set fire to Duna's residence in the Outer City," said Oskar clearly.

"It was an accident. He is new and does not know anything about the rules of this base." Kylian Arthur replied. This time his smile disappeared.

"I agree with Oskar. I can't just trust Duna with them easily."

"What do you want now, Arthur?" Logan asked.

Kylian stood up from his chair. "Okay, I understand. I won't take Duna to my mercenary zone. I will take her to my military residence. You can come and check on her whenever you want."

"Sounds good to me," Logan replied.

"Okay." Zudith nodded.

"..." Oskar clenched his fists. "I will keep an eye out for you there."

"Yes." Arthur nodded.

Again. I don't know how to respond. I don't know about my new life either.

Kylian held out his hand to me, saying, "Time to go."

"Oh, okay." I took his hand. He led me to his car, which was parked not far from the entrance.

My mind wandered back to a few weeks ago. At that time, I was very surprised because I was in a place I had never been to.

**

Flashback.

"Who changed my clothes?" I whispered softly as I opened my eyelids. On my body was a black shirt combined with a green waistcoat and khaki pants along with a pair of black boots with wedges.

I don't know where I am right now, but all the tall trees around me look like a forest.

"Ugh." I felt pain all over my body, especially in my right shoulder.

My heart skipped a beat when I saw a sharp, milky white object nestled under my right shoulder like a fishing hook in a fish's mouth.

"Hah-, haha." I laughed ironically. In this situation, I was clearly dying. I couldn't stop the bleeding from my right shoulder. I also couldn't just let go of the sharp object. It is definitely going to hurt more, and I am not a surgeon.

I took a deep breath and exhaled slowly. If I can recall correctly, I was previously in the hospital wearing a white coat like a general doctor's assistant.

A riot suddenly broke out targeting doctors and interns like me. I don't know why, but all I could do was run.

"Ugh." I don't remember what else happened, but my head hurts so much when I try to remember.

I was silent for a few moments until the sound of rushing water made me curious. I don't know what power came over me, but I was able to stand even though I was staggering towards the source of the sound.

After passing several shady trees, I arrived at the edge of the cliff. There was a river with a fairly fast flow under the cliff. Somehow, I felt calm even though my whole body felt very painful.

"Lieutenant, Platoons 1 and 5 have arrived at the location, awaiting further instructions." A voice was heard followed by a beep-beep sound.

"Lieutenant, 2nd Platoon is under attack. Critical condition, reinforcements are needed."

I saw a walkie-talkie on the rocks not far from my right. I also saw blood spatters in several places. Curiosity gripped me again. I followed the trail of blood.

After passing through some bushes, I saw a figure of a man wearing a green military-style coat lying on the ground. It seems he is the lieutenant who was called from the walkie-talkie earlier.

Seeing his condition, I quickly checked the pulse on his wrist. It was beating but very slowly. This man must be losing consciousness.

After looking around, I turned his body over to lie on his back. I didn't have enough energy to carry him to a more comfortable place, so I just pushed aside the surrounding undergrowth a bit.

I asked, "Hey, are you okay?" in a fairly loud and clear voice, but the man in front of me just kept quiet. I tried to check him again. His pulse was still pulsating, his heart was beating very slowly, but he wasn't breathing.

"A person like you is too precious to die," I said, then tried to press his chest several times. I did not hesitate in doing it because I had received chest compression and CPR training while working as a doctor's assistant.

I didn't stop there. I also tried to open his airway. After raising his head, I put my hand on his forehead while lifting his chin slowly.

I said, "I hope you can live," then pinched his nose, locked our mouths, and blew air into his mouth.

"Hey, can you hear me now?" I asked in a clear voice.

"Hm..." I could hear him responding even though his face still looked like he was sleeping.

"Hang in there. I think someone as important as you is being searched for. Maybe help will come," I said, checking his pulse. I had to do my best to keep him conscious and give him CPR again when his condition started to deteriorate.

"Look at you, you're quite handsome," I said, laughing.

"Hm."

"If only I could marry someone as handsome as you, I would be happy," I said again, laughing. I really don't know what to talk to him about, that's all I can think of.

"Hm."

"Do you have any other injuries?" I asked.

He was silent. The pulse I checked on his neck was dropping. I took a breath and put my mouth over his mouth until it was sealed properly. I blew hard into his mouth.

Seeing his chest rise and fall made me relieved. It was a sign that I had done CPR well.

"Hey, you have to stay conscious," I pleaded in a clear voice.

"Hm." This time, his voice was soft, but at least he was still responding.

"Cough." I coughed. Blood flowing from my mouth. I again felt extreme pain in my right shoulder and all over my body. My head is also dizzy.

I said, "I guess I can only help you this far," placing my finger on the side of his neck. His pulse was still throbbing.

"Even if I die here, at least I tried to help you. I'm happy, so I hope you stay alive."

I don't know if he responded or not. My vision was completely dark, and I couldn't hear anything anymore. Only pain remained to accompany me.
