MARINETTE

“Hey, Marinette! You've got new arrivals!” Josh stops his old bike in front of the bookstore, a playful smirk tugging at his lips. Small strands of his dirty blonde hair peep from his blue face cap. He points at the new books, warm blue orbs locked on mine. “What do you think?”

Pushing back the keys of the bookstore into the pocket of my wide leg pants, I hurry to pick up the books. “I never thought I'd get them so early!” I laugh, picking up the one that catches my attention. ‘Mated to the Biker Alpha Twins’

“Well, a ‘thank you’ would do.” Josh winks, rolling up the sleeves of his grey shirt.

Shoving the book under my armpit, I give him a quick hug and he chuckles. “A minute longer isn't going to hurt, Marinette.”

I roll my eyes. “It's going to be a busy day today, I better get to work.” I try to pack up the new arrivals, but Josh stops me, his fingers brushing against mine. “I'll do that. They're too heavy.”

I pull my sleeves. “I'm not some fragile woman, you know?”

  • My Dear Master, We're Mates! (M×M)   CHAPTER 69: Growing soft?

ALEXANDERI can't believe I called Ethan incompetent a few weeks ago. Over the last few days, I've sacked about ten new assistants for their evident stupidity. I just fired the last one several minutes ago. Strolling into a rooftop cafe I'd cleared up for more privacy with a private investigator, I punched my fist into my pocket. Finding the young man sipping his coffee while staring at the view of the city, I slid Ethan's picture across the table. The last few days have been hell. He’s just my assistant—the most competent, most tolerable. That’s the excuse I keep repeating, over and over. But even I know I’m lying. The private investigator drops his coffee and picks up Ethan's picture. “His name is Ethan Wayne.” I clear my throat. “I want everything on him. Sightings, calls, traffic cams. Even if someone farted right next to him, I want to fucking know.” “Who is he to—” I slam my palm on the table as Rhydian claws at the surface. He wants blood. We want blood, we just don't kn

  • My Dear Master, We're Mates! (M×M)   CHAPTER 68: Comfort in a chaotic world

MARINETTEIt's been four days. Four days without the sound of Ethan's laughter ringing through my ears. Four days without him walking down the stairs like a clumsy kid. Four days without his nagging, help, voice. The silence is so deafening, it's starting to overwhelm me. Stepping into the kitchen, I find Jaz sitting around the kitchen island. Her face is pale, eyes red and puffy from crying the whole night. Seeing her this way makes my heart ache, and the fact that I can do nothing about it makes it hurt even more. She's staring at coffee—the same one Ethan makes for her—like she's about to break. Leaning towards her, I calmly place my hand on her shoulder. “You've been staring at the coffee for minutes, Jaz. Drink up.” I whisper, and she just stares at me like she doesn't understand what I'm saying. She then wipes a fresh tear from her eyes. “I can't eat when he's missing.” “What do you think Ethan would want you to do right now?” She shakes her head. “He'd want me to take care

ETHANI wake up in the same chair again, drifting between consciousness and unconsciousness. The pain is sharper, my body is sticked with dry blood and sweat, and my lips are cracked. Trying to move seems like a death wish, because when I try, every muscle screams. How long has it been? A day, two, am I even still alive? The door creaks open and Liam walks in. He's eating something, perhaps a sandwich or something else, but he looks like he's enjoying this daily routine. I try to lift my head. “Liam…”“Oh,” he smirks, shoving the rest of the sandwich in his mouth. My stomach grumbles as he inches even closer. “Look who's awake. I thought you'd died, sunshine.”I let out a sharp exhale, feeling like my whole body is on fire. “Why?” I croak out, fighting the burn in my eyes. He punches me hard in the face. I can barely see now, and I'm slowly starting to lose hope. Maybe this is where I really die. What happens to Jaz, Marinette, Gwen?Alexander? “Why?” Liam scoffs, laughing like

ALEXANDERHudson's driving, eyes glancing over to the mirror to check me from time to time. My fingers are clenched, muscles in my jaw tucking, I'm running out of patience and if I don't see Ethan by the end of today, I might rip this whole city apart. “Try his number again.” I bark an order to Hudson. He flinches, grip tightening around the steering wheel. He tries Ethan's number, then lets out a sigh that makes me clench my teeth. “Still off,” he says. “Maybe he got drunk and—”“We both know Ethan isn't like that.” ~~We arrive at the station in minutes. As soon as I step in, the office falls silent. The officer on duty tries to stand, but hesitation mars his features. He parts his lips like he's about to speak, then seals them again. Slamming a photo of Ethan on the desk, I say. “My assistant here has been missing for some hours. Find him for me.” His fingers tremble as he picks up the image. “We…we received a report about this same person earlier, but it's too early to file a

  • My Dear Master, We're Mates! (M×M)   CHAPTER 65: Sick confession

ETHANMy arms are tied to a chair, ankles bound to the same damn chair. My back aches, and it feels like my head’s been split open. Where the fuck is this place? I try to speak, to get some words out—but I can only taste something metallic. My own blood. I've been awake for a few minutes, eyes checking out this dimly lit room with the awful stench of blood. My stomach twists violently with disgust, and as I wiggle my wrists against the chair, it feels like they're being ripped apart—my flesh from my bones. I let out a small groan. It's even more annoying that I'm shirtless. There are no windows, no openings, but my skin tingles like I'm inside frozen water. It's gradually making me weak. Suddenly, there are footsteps. It's slow, heavy, and confident. I keep my chin up, eagerness mixing with the anger burning in my veins. The light then reveals a familiar figure. Liam stands there at the threshold, looking a bit older, tired, and with a crazed expression in his eyes. My lips part,

MARINETTEWaking up to prepare breakfast for my family is always the start of a great day for me. Opening up the doors, my lip breaks into a smile, but my eyes suddenly catch some dried blood that seems to have come from the front porch. I squint my eyes, wondering if Gwen injured herself without telling me last night. But as soon as I step outside, I'm shocked to find Police cruisers pulling into the streets. My home. A cold shiver runs down my spine as my legs find their way towards them. My back stiffens when I see Jaz. She's wrapped in a robe, pale, trembling and even barefoot. Tears stream down her cheeks as she presses her head against my chest. “He…he didn't come back inside.” Her voice cracks. Gwen's still asleep, I haven't seen Ethan, my mind is so messed up, I can't make sense of anything. Seeing so many men in black around my home brings back the memory of my dead husband, because he was once one of them. I tighten my hold on Jaz, glaring hard at the police that's walking
