THREE YEARS LATER.

Jackson.

I stared blankly into space, unable to sleep no matter how hard I tried. I tossed and turned, but rest eluded me, while the woman beside me seemed completely at ease. She slept soundly, a pleasant smile on her face, while I was caught in a battle with my restless thoughts.

I rolled over, ready to close my eyes and steal a few minutes of sleep before getting ready for work. But the moment I shut my eyes, a loud cry erupted from the west side of the room, making it clear that sleep was out of the question.

I waited a minute, hoping she would wake up and tend to our baby, but she remained deep in slumber, undisturbed by her cries.

Letting out a low groan, I climbed out of bed and rushed to the crib. Looking down, I smiled when I saw our baby’s eyes already wide open, staring right back at me as soon as she saw me. She paused for a second, then resumed crying.

“Hey, baby,” I said, bending down to pick her up. I swayed side to side to appease her, yet, my atte

Nicole.I stared at Jackson in shock for a minute before coming back to my senses, I scowled at him like I’m just seeing him for the first time.“What are you doing here?” I hissed. He shook his head, “I just want us to talk.”He still thinks I would want to talk to him after everything he has done, after everything he made me go through.“There’s nothing for us to talk about, Jackson, you should leave.” I glared at him.“Nicole…” he paused and let out a breath. He ran his hand through his hair before speaking again.“Look, I know you are mad but—“ I shook my head.I no longer want to hear what he’s going to say.“I don’t care, Jackson, leave!” I hissed at him, seething with rage. The mere sight of him irks me, it feels like I should plunge a knife in his chest, bring his heart out, and poke it little by little to make him feel just how much he hurt me.He paused, “I just want us to talk, Nicole.” He repeated.I bit my inner cheek, holding myself to be strong and not to just agree wit

Jackson.I took the stairs down slowly while trying to knot my tie. I still hadn’t gotten the hang of doing it myself. The sound of my shoe hitting the steps reverberated throughout the place, the echo bouncing back to me, making me know how empty the house was. Without Nicole here, the whole place felt empty—more like a roof over my head than a home. As I stepped into the living room, I paused when I saw two figures sitting on the couch. From the look on their faces, I could tell they were waiting for me.“Jackson, thank God you’re here,” Mom said, getting to her feet the moment she saw me. I frowned, glancing at Shirley, who was now staring at me, then back at my mom.“Is something wrong?” “Do you need me to send more money to your account, Shirley?” I asked, hoping that was the only issue. I have no problem giving my sister money, even though she was old enough to find a job herself; I couldn’t help but want to satisfy her needs.“This isn’t about money, Jackson. I heard somethin

Nicole. My day was going fine, well, apart from me excusing myself to go throw up, overall, I have been fine and happy. I felt free from all thoughts, lighter even. “I don’t mean to be nosy, but how is your divorce going?” Rowan asked, already being nosy. I let out a sigh, “Not good, but I hope he will sign soon.” I replied. “Do you need my help? I know we don't know each other very well, but I am more than willing to help you. I know some good lawyers who can help you get his signature on those papers in a minute.” He said, and I smiled appreciatively. “Thank you for your help, Rowan, but it’s no bother. My mom is already handling that,” he looked at me and then nodded again. “How does it feel seeing your Mom again after so many years?” He asked while he opened the food he had bought. The sweet smell of lasagna with cheese and chicken at the side wafted into my nose, and I hungrily looked at it. My mouth watered at the sight of it and I couldn't wait to start munching on it.

Nicole.I try my best not to think about the picture I saw on the news two days ago, it was about Laura and Jackson. The reporter who posted the picture made it known that Jackson and Laura were back together, and everyone should be expecting the wedding bells soon.I felt sick to my stomach seeing how many engagements the post got, and even sicker when I read through the comments. Everyone was vouching for them to get married already, and while going through those comments, it felt like I had been the obstacle between them ever since.I dropped my phone after reading too many comments, and they were getting to me. I remember getting a text from Jackson that same day requesting we meet.I had the thought of blocking his number after that, but changed my mind at the last minute; I didn’t do that because I would call him one of these days to tell him about our baby.“I can see your thoughts spinning round your head, Nicole,” Rowan said, and I snapped out of my thoughts. My cheeks flushe

Nicole. “Are you going to tell me where you’re going?” Mom asked again for what felt like the millionth time this morning.I received a text from Rowan saying William wanted to see me and that he had something to talk about. I didn’t ask what it was because I knew he wouldn’t tell me, and I needed to get out for some fresh air; I had been cooped up in this house for far too long.I didn’t answer her while I continued applying my makeup.“Oh, come on, Nikki,” she urged.“Fine, if you’re not going to tell me where you’re going, how about you tell me who this person is?” she asked again, looking curious like a child.“You’ll see when he gets here,” I replied, which made her smile even brighter.“A ‘he’! Tell me, Nikki, is this a date?” I rolled my eyes at her question. It’s not a date. I’m just going out with a guy and his nephew. Let's not forget how much I love his nephew; that doesn’t sound like a date, right? Besides, I’d rather focus on myself, my studies, and my baby.Yeah, you he

Jackson.I dropped Laura carefully on the bed, her eyes were closed, but I knew she wasn’t sleeping; she immediately peeled them open as soon as her back hit the bed.“Hi, how are you feeling now?” I asked, leaning above her.She brought her hand down to her stomach before replying.“I’m fine now.” I intend to pull back and go grab a drink or water for her.Her hand instantly held mine, stopping me from leaving.“Is the pain back?” I asked, but she shook her head. Then why did she stop me from leaving?“Are…. Are you going back to the office?” She asked, softly.I opened my mouth to answer, but she beat me to it.“I know you have a lot going on, Jack, but can you….. can you just stay for the day. I want you by my side.” She politely requests it.“You know what, forget that I asked, I will be fine on my own. You can leave now.” She said, avoiding my gaze.I held her face gently, straightening it so she could look at me, my heart squeezed at the sight of tears in her eyes.“You should s

Jackson. It had been a week.A week of living in this house without Nicole in it. A week of watching my mother and sister drive her out of the house, a week of seeing her at the restaurant with that fucking man and a week of trying to call her, but to no avail.I have never felt so alone, empty, and lonely in my entire life. Ever since I saw her that night out with another man, I haven’t been the same; the part I never knew I had in me wanted her back. I wanted to drag her from his hold back to my house, this is the place she belongs. She is my wife, not his; she wasn’t supposed to be with another man, and not days after she gave me those papers. My mood has been very sour this week, one from not getting a call or text back from Nicole, and two I haven’t still heard from HT. I needed their money to help my company get back from the ground but there has not been a single mail.I let out a tired groan, running my hand through my hair.I have been staring at the workload on my table for

Nicole.I was downstairs fifteen minutes later, yeah, I took longer than I planned, and that’s because my body decided to use that time to become so lazy.I had to force myself downstairs before I would crash on the bed again.I followed the voices to know where the dining room was, and it took me just a few seconds to find it.Mom was sitting on the chair with an already served meal before her, but she wasn’t alone. A man was sitting at the head of the table; he was also eating, but they both paused when I stepped into the room.I looked at him and then at Mom, who started blushing so hard as soon as our gaze met. That was everything I needed to know that this man was someone special to Mom.“Nikki, come have your seat before dinner gets cold,” she said, standing up and helping me to the chair beside her.She made sure my plate was full with food before taking her seat. I stared at the heap of food and was ready to comment about it being too much, but then realized I wasn’t eating fo
