Elijah’s POV

I walked into the TV network studio and immediately scanned the area, my eyes settling on the door to the set where Lila was wrapping up her guest appearance. My heart pounded with anticipation. This conversation had been a long time coming.

The door opened, and Lila emerged, looking as poised as ever in her stylish outfit. Her eyes widened when she saw me, a flicker of surprise—and was it nervousness?—crossing her face. I stepped forward, forcing a smile.

“Hey, Lila,” I greeted her. “How did it go?”

She composed herself quickly, offering me a bright smile. “Elijah, hi! It went well. Everyone was warm and friendly. The public loves me, or so they say.”

I nodded, not entirely convinced by her easy demeanor. “That's good to hear. But we need to talk, as you promised.”

Her smile faltered slightly, but she nodded. “Yeah, we do. There's a cafe nearby. Let's go there.”

We walked in silence to the cafe, the bustling city sounds filling the void between us. The cafe was cozy, a s

Sophia’s POVI pulled up to Grandma Evelyn's house, not knowing how to feel. Reese sat in the back seat, humming a tune from her recent piano lesson. I took a deep breath and turned off the engine, my fingers lingering on the key.Grandma Evelyn had been calling me almost every day, asking me to visit and bring Reese. Knowing now that I was her real, biological granddaughter—the real Sabrina—made everything feel awkward and weird. But I knew I had to face it eventually. Besides, Evelyn and her husband George had always been good and welcoming to me.“Ready, Reese?” I asked, turning to my daughter.“Yep!” she chirped, bouncing in her seat.We walked up the path to the house, and I rang the doorbell. Moments later, Grandpa George opened the door with a warm smile.“Sophia, Reese, come on in,” he greeted us, stepping aside to let us enter.“Hi, Grandpa George!” Reese exclaimed, giving him a big hug.“Hello, sweetheart,” he chuckled, patting her back. “Evelyn's in the living room.”We mad

Sophia’s POVEvelyn’s room was quiet and peaceful, the sound of the piano drifting in from the next room where Reese and Grandpa George were still playing. I carefully helped Evelyn from her wheelchair to the bed, making sure she was comfortable before moving into the chair beside her.“Thank you, Sophia,” Evelyn said as she adjusted her pillow. Her eyes, though tired, still held that familiar sparkle.“It's no trouble at all, Grandma Evelyn,” I replied, smoothing the covers around her.She reached out and took my hand gently. “How are you really doing these days?”I took a deep breath, glancing toward the door where the sounds of Reese's laughter and the piano notes blended harmoniously. “Work is good. I have plenty of projects keeping me busy.”Evelyn nodded, her expression thoughtful. “And what about matters of the heart?”I hesitated for a moment, thinking hard about her question and feeling my emotions reacting to it. “Well, it's complicated,” I began, finding it oddly comforting

Sophia’s POVI heard Chris’s voice coming from the hallway. “Sophia, are you in here?”I turned toward the doorway, and there he was, poking his head into the room. His eyes took in the scene—Grandma Evelyn lying on the bed with me seated beside her, and Reese's happy laughter filling the space. His smile was meaningful, a mixture of relief, joy, and something else that pulled at my heartstrings. "Hey there," I greeted him warmly, trying to understand the look on his face.“Sophia,” he replied, his voice filled with a warmth I hadn’t heard before. He stepped into the room, and to my surprise, he came over and gave me a quick embrace. My heart beat fast, wondering why he was being like this. He was always friendly but never this way. He pulled back, and I searched his face for answers, but he turned to Grandma Evelyn instead. His expression softened as he looked at her, and he said, “You were right all along.”We all looked puzzled, exchanging glances. Chris continued, his voice trem

Henry’s POVThe weight of the night pressed heavily upon me as I paced the confines of my dimly lit room. The ticking clock on the wall seemed to mock me with every second that passed, each one a reminder of how precariously I was balancing on the edge of a razor-thin line. The authorities had cast their net wide across France, and I could feel the pressure closing in on me. The whole world seemed to be a trap, and escape was slipping through my fingers. My breath came in short, ragged bursts as I struggled to keep my nerves in check. The only solace was the knowledge that tomorrow morning, I would be on a private plane back to the US, thanks to my associate Vito Romano. He really did have plenty of helpful underground connections. The thought of finally being reunited with Julia was the only thing that kept me going, the only thing that made the fear and frustration bearable.I stepped over to the window and stared out into the darkness, the city lights below shimmering like distan

Sophia’s POVI sighed as I stared at Daniel's text on my phone, asking if I wanted to grab dinner on Saturday night. My fingers hovered over the keyboard for a moment before I typed out a polite refusal. Sorry, Daniel. I'm just not feeling up to going out this weekend. Maybe another time?I hit send and tossed my phone onto the couch, sinking back into the cushions. It buzzed almost immediately, and I groaned, half-expecting Daniel to try and convince me otherwise. But it wasn't Daniel—it was Elijah.Hey, Sophia. Any chance you're free this weekend? I'd love to catch up.I couldn't help but sigh. Two invitations in one day? I quickly typed out another refusal. Sorry, Elijah. I'm taking it easy this weekend. Maybe next week? With both invitations turned down, I felt a mixture of relief and guilt. I needed a break, some time to just unwind without the pressure of socializing or pretending everything was fine. And I especially needed time away from the two men who were causing my inter

Sophia’s POVI glanced at my watch, anxiety prickling at my fingertips. The seconds seemed to tick by with persistent urgency as I hurriedly wrapped up my conversation with Trevis. “Thank you for everything today, Trevis. I really appreciate it,” I said, my voice catching slightly. His reassuring smile did little to quell my growing unease.“I’m just glad I could help,” he replied. “Go on, get to the court. You don’t want to miss anything.”I nodded, giving him a quick hug before sprinting out of the building. The chilly air hit me like a splash of cold water, but I barely noticed as I dashed to the curb. My car was in the shop, so I needed a cab. I hailed the first one that came by, the yellow vehicle screeching to a halt in front of me.“Hall of Justice, please,” I told the driver, hopping into the back seat. I felt a jolt of relief as the cab pulled away from the curb, heading toward my destination. My thoughts raced ahead to the courtroom, where I hoped to find Elijah and Chris,

Elijah’s POVI sat in the courtroom, the air heavy with the murmur of spectators and the tension of the day’s proceedings. Chris was beside me, fidgeting nervously. He leaned in close, trying to whisper and yet be heard above the ambient noise.“Julia promised she’d tell the truth today,” he said, a faint note of hope in his tone.I nodded, though I couldn’t muster any optimism. My trust in Julia was long gone, eroded by countless betrayals. I expected nothing from her. The bitterness had set in so deep that even the prospect of justice couldn’t stir much excitement within me.She had betrayed me so damn hard. I was so stupid for believing her, and for almost marrying her. Twice. I couldn’t help but hate myself for this, for being fooled by her. And it made me despise her even more. As the court clerk began calling for order, my phone buzzed in my pocket. I discreetly pulled it out, glancing at the screen. The message was from Trevis: Sophia went to the office looking for you. Julia’s POVI must tell the truth. This is my chance to start fresh, to get a lower sentence. I have no other choice. These were the thoughts swirling in my head as I took the witness stand. Henry has failed me, I thought, my chest feeling heavy. I glanced around the courtroom, trying to make sense of everything. The lawyer's voice cut through the din, demanding my attention.“Julia,” he asked sharply, “did you plan the kidnapping of Reese Sinclair? And did you hurt Reese’s mother, Sophia Bennett, at the beach?”His words felt distant, as if they were coming from underwater. My eyes were locked on Chris and Elijah, their expressions a mix of alarm and urgency. I couldn’t shake the sense that something was terribly wrong. My mind raced, my heart pounding in my chest.A sudden, jarring thought pierced through my confusion: What if Henry had done something? The hope that Henry was back and maybe orchestrating something to get me out of this situation surged within me. My emotions chur

Sophia’s POVJared was safe. That was all that mattered. We were gathered in the house, the weight of the night still pressing heavily on our shoulders. But at least Jared was asleep now, curled up in his bed like nothing had happened. He hadn’t seemed afraid, hadn’t even realized the gravity of what Antoine had done. And for that, I was grateful. The last thing I wanted was for him to carry fear because of this. But once he woke up, I knew I would have to face the reality of telling him about his father. And why it was only now that he was finding out about Antoine. “We’re not pressing charges,” I had told Elijah. But we did have to watch our backs more carefully, to stay guarded and alert all the time. And we needed to make sure never to let Jared out of our sights again. Still, we had made Antoine promise never to pull something like this again. Not that his word meant much. I didn’t trust him, and I knew Elijah didn’t either. This wasn’t over. Not really.Phoebe sat beside me,

Sophia’s POVElijah and I sprinted through the mall, dodging past confused shoppers and security personnel as the urgency of the moment drove us forward. My heart pounded in my ears, my breaths coming fast and shallow.“We need to check the parking lot exits,” Elijah said, his voice tight with controlled fury. “If Antoine took Jared, he won’t risk staying here much longer.”Elijah nodded, pulling out his phone and dialing Joe. The moment Joe answered, Elijah got straight to the point. “Antoine’s here. He took Jared. We need to know if he has a car registered in his name or any known places he might go.”I looked at Elijah in anticipation. He nodded then ended the call. "He said he'll get back to us soon."My eyes darted around the busy corridor, searching for any sign of our son.Jared, my sweet boy. Where are you?Phoebe ran alongside me, her face streaked with tears. “He must’ve followed us,” she choked out. “I swear, I didn’t think— I mean, I saw someone watching, but I wasn’t sure

Sophia’s POVI pushed through the crowded mall, my heart hammering in my chest, my breath coming in short, uneven gasps. The world around me blurred into a haze of faces and voices, none of them the one I was searching for. Oh, god, Jared. Please be okay.My mind screamed his name with every step I took, my hands trembling as I grabbed Phoebe’s arm, trying to keep both of us steady.“He has to be here,” Phoebe said, her voice shaking as she wiped at her tear-streaked face. “He has to be here somewhere.”I wanted to believe her. I had to believe her. But the sheer panic clawing at my throat made it hard to hold on to hope. Jared wasn’t just missing—he seemed to have vanished into thin air. And the longer he was gone, the worse the possibilities became.“Elijah’s talking to security,” I said, scanning every store, every passerby, searching for even a glimpse of him. “They’re checking the cameras. We just have to keep looking.”Phoebe nodded frantically, but guilt was etched into every

For a moment, I let myself pretend that this was just a regular dinner date, that everything was normal. But it wasn’t.“The food’s amazing,” I said, taking another bite of my steak. “You picked a great place.”Sophia smiled faintly, but the crease between her brows betrayed the worry she was trying to hide. “I’m glad you like it,” she said softly. Her fork hovered over her plate for a moment before she set it down. “Elijah… do you think Chris and Emily are okay?”I reached across the table, taking her hand in mine. “They’ll be fine,” I said firmly, though the weight in my chest made me doubt my own words. “The mob’s on its last legs. Even if there are survivors, they’re scattered and in no position to orchestrate anything.”She nodded, but her eyes didn’t meet mine. “I can’t help but worry. What if… what if some of them intercepted Chris and E

Her eyes were wet with happy tears, her face a mix of relief and joy that she was finally reunited with him.Elijah stood at the foot of the bed, his posture stiff, but his expression was open, filled with something I rarely saw: vulnerability. He cleared his throat, his voice low but steady as he spoke. “Lennon, I need to say something.”Lennon looked at him calmly. “Go on.”“I…” Elijah hesitated, then sighed, running a hand through his hair. “I’m sorry. For doubting you. For questioning your motives. You’ve done so much for all of us, for Morgana, for our family. And… I didn’t trust you the way I should have.”Lennon smiled faintly, shaking his head. “You don’t have to apologize, Elijah. I understand. With everything that’s happened, with all t

Sophia’s POV“It’s probably nothing,” I said softly, my voice trembling despite my effort to sound calm. “Let’s just wait and see.”The words felt hollow even to me, but they were the best I could muster as I sat beside my mother in the Bakers’ cozy living room. Her hands twisted the edge of her sweater, her eyes darting to the phones scattered across the coffee table. Every time one of them vibrated or rang, the room froze.“I can’t take this anymore,” my mother whispered, her voice breaking. Her shoulders trembled, and I reached out to squeeze her hand. “Sophia, what if something terrible happened? What if…”“Mom,” I interrupted gently, trying to keep my composure. “Let’s not think like that. Chris is strong, and so is Emily. They’re going to be okay.”Across the room, the television hummed with a cartoon, the cheerful voices of animated characters clashing painfully with the heavy atmosphere. The kids sat cross-legged on the floor, giggling at the screen, blissfully unaware of what

Elijah’s POV“You can’t just disappear,” I muttered, gripping the steering wheel tighter as my car sped down the nearly empty highway. The words sounded hollow in the space of the car, but they kept me from drowning in my own thoughts.Another day had passed. Another day of silence. The news about the mob had been everywhere—the arrests, the seizing of assets, the public’s outrage. Vito was still out there, probably on the run, but with the walls closing in, it wouldn’t be long now. At least, I hoped not. The Crimson Veil and Arcane Network were relentless. They’d find him. And the authorities in two countries were doing their best in the search too.But my thoughts kept circling back to Emily and Chris. No one had heard from them, not even the Crimson Veil. Are they still traveling, trying to stay off the radar? Or are they in some place so remote they can't reach out? Maybe it's both. The uncertainty ate at me, each unanswered question pressing harder on my mind with every passing h

Then finally, the call connected. “Elijah,” Joe’s familiar voice came through, slightly hoarse but unmistakably alive.“Joe,” I breathed, relief flooding through me. “Thank God. You’re okay. I… I’ve been worried sick.”“We’re okay,” Joe replied, his voice steady despite the exhaustion I could hear underneath. “We got out before the explosion. Minor injuries, but nothing we couldn’t handle.”“And Lennon?” I asked, gripping the phone tighter.“Safe,” Joe assured me. “We managed to extract him just in time. He’s in the hospital now, recovering. It’s going to take a while, but he’ll pull through.”I released a breath I hadn’t realized I’d been holding. “Thank God. Joe, I can’t tell you how relieved I am to hear this.”Joe’s tone softened. “We all are. It was close, Elijah. Too close.”I nodded, even though he

Elijah’s POVThe next morning felt heavy, as if the house itself was carrying the weight of the night before. The quiet was oppressive, broken only by the occasional creak of the floorboards or the distant hum of a car passing by.I sat at the dining table, staring into my coffee. The steam curled lazily upward, but the rich aroma did nothing to soothe my nerves. My phone lay face up beside the mug, its screen dark but ever-present, a reminder of the silence on the other end.I’d stayed at my stepmother’s house for the night, unable to leave her in the state she was in. Sophia had wanted to stay too since Phoebe was with our kids anyway, but I’d insisted she go home to the kids. “I’ll be fine,” I’d told her, even though fine was the last thing I felt. Now, as I sipped my coffee, I kept glancing at my phone, willing it to buzz or ring—anything to break the unbearable silence. My thoughts were consumed with Joe and Lennon. The sound of footsteps pulled me from my thoughts. I looked up
