My Dominic?

Bella.

A sharp pain shot across my chest and the longer I stared at the picture, the more my vision turned blurry and soon enough, my tears were dropping on the screen of the smartphone.

I should have known that Vivian coming back would be all it would take to send Dominic running back to her after filing for a divorce.

She was his ex, she had left the country three years ago and I had no idea she was back until that very moment.

All the good times we shared, all the memories now felt like something of the past. Throughout the entire night, I laid wide awake in bed thinking about it all.

I couldn’t just throw away three years of our lives, I couldn’t just walk away from everything because no matter what, I loved Dominic and I believed we could talk things through.

Our marriage could still work, there was a reason we had lasted for three years and I wasn’t going to just back down.

So as soon as it was dawn, I got dressed and drove all the way to his office,

The building was familiar to me so I didn’t need anyone to get to his office but his secretary told me he was currently not in his office.

I didn’t even wait to hear what she had to say, I was determined to speak to him so I decided to wait for him in his office.

Drawing in deep and very loud breaths, I tried to calm my racing heart and it actually worked so I gently pushed open the door and made my way inside..

Instantly, I came face to face with a very familiar face.

“Vivian.” I mumbled, shocked to find her standing before me in my husband’s office.

I glanced towards his desk but it was empty.

“Oh… you must be Bella,” her eyes sparkled mischievously as she greeted me enthusiastically, “it’s so nice to meet you. You must be looking for my Dominic, he is in a meeting and isn’t here right now but I can take down your message for him and help you convey it to him.”

My Dominic?

I could sense my rage rushing to the surface after hearing her refer to my husband in such a personal manner but I refused to indulge her, I was just going to wait for Dominic.

“I would like to speak to my husband personally so I’ll wait for my husband in here, in his office.” I responded with a firm tone as I made my way past her, towards the seats and sat down quietly.

She walked over to join me instantly.

“You know…” she began, “I should really thank you for all you’ve done for Dominic for the past three years. I mean, he told me everything, that you cook and clean so well and you’re always so eager to do everything he asks you to do. You were such a perfect house wife.”

I could sense the mockery in her tone but I still chose to ignore her.

“But now that I am back, I am going to take over and take even better care of my Dominic so you can enjoy a nice good rest.” She added.

I would have ignored her, I planned to but listening to her speak about me in such a manner made me furious, it infuriated me in such a way that I couldn’t just keep silent any longer, so I turned to face her, angrily.

“You are his ex and right now, you’re nothing more than friends. Only his wife can take care of him, in every aspects and when I say every, I mean every, and that is clearly not your role.” I held her eyes as I said those words.

I had intentionally stressed my words to pass a message and she clearly got it because her forced smile immediately gave way to the original frown.

She drew in a deep breath before she plastered another smile on her face again and opened her mouth to speak,

“Oh… poor you, I am sure you didn’t know,” she began and my brows furrowed.

What was she talking about?

“Before I left the country three years ago, Dominic proposed to me, he practically begged me to be his wife but I wasn’t ready to settle down just yet so I turned him down and left the country. He didn’t want to lose me, he wanted to wait for me because I am the only woman he has ever loved so he conveniently married a nobody to keep that spot warm and pacify his grandmother, just until I return.”

She looked me over from head to toe with disdain yet she maintained the smile on her face.

“You were the perfect replacement for me and now that I am back, it’s time for the replacement to be cast aside.”

I had no idea that Dominic had asked her to marry him, was that why he had agreed to our marriage? Because she had turned him down?

It was disrespectful enough that she was in here with me but finding out that I had been nothing but a replacement from her was even worse.

“What? You don’t like what you heard? Wake up Bella or whatever your name is, you cannot possibly think a man like Dominic would marry and love a woman like you.” She scoffed out loud.

I opened my mouth to say something but before the words made it out, Vivian suddenly cried out,

“I am so sorry, please forgive me, I didn’t mean to cause any trouble between you and Dominic.” She let out a piercing scream before she randomly crashed to the ground on her own.

Too stunned to speak, I just stood there, staring at her because I had no idea why she had done that or what it was for until a loud, angry voice thundered behind me.

“What the hell is going on here?” Dominic asked as he rushed forward to kneel beside Vivian who was now groaning and holding onto her leg as if she was in pain.

I didn’t hear him walk in.

“She…”

“How can you be this evil Bella? Get out of my office right now!” Dominic snapped at me angrily, cutting me off as he lifted Vivian into his arms right there in front of me.

“Dom I…”

“Attacking an innocent woman because you can’t handle the divorce is just childish and pathetic.” He hissed at me before he walked out with Vivian in his arms.

Even the divorce did not hurt me as much as that moment did.
