I stopped in the center of the ballroom, right in front of the Vance family.

For three years, I had stood behind Damien. At family dinners, I sat quietly while Mrs. Vance spoke over me. At social gatherings, I lowered my head whenever someone asked about my background. Even when Clara needed something, I was expected to step aside.

Tonight, there was nowhere for me to hide.

The emerald silk of my gown fell perfectly around me. The fabric caught the warm light of the chandeliers with every small movement. A diamond necklace rested against my collarbone. Its stones had been carefully chosen by Julian because he knew I hated anything too extravagant. My hair was swept into a neat, elegant bun, leaving a few soft strands around my face. I looked exactly like the woman I had spent three years pretending not to be.

Sophia Sterling.

Not Mrs. Damien Vance. Not the poor girl they had pitied. Not the unwanted wife they had treated like an outsider.

Sophia Sterling.

Damien stared at me across the small distance between us. His face had lost every trace of confidence. I looked at him calmly.

"Hello, Damien."

He did not answer immediately. His eyes moved over my dress, my jewelry, then finally settled on my face.

"You..." His voice was low. "You're Sophia."

I almost smiled. "Yes."

Mrs. Vance stepped forward. "This is impossible." Her gaze moved from me to Julian, then to Marcus and Alexander. "You are telling me that she is Sophia Sterling?"

Julian adjusted the cuff of his black suit. "She is my sister."

The words were simple. They were enough.

Mrs. Vance's face tightened. "But she never said..."

"She wasn't required to explain herself to you." Julian's voice remained calm. That was what made it worse.

Clara stood beside Damien, holding one of the newborns carefully in her arms while the other rested with the nurse beside her. Her expression had changed completely. She looked at me as though she were seeing a stranger. Perhaps she was.

The Sophia she knew would have lowered her head. This Sophia did not.

Clara swallowed. "Sophia, can we talk privately?"

I looked at her. "About what?"

She hesitated. "Everything that happened..."

"Everything?" I repeated the word softly.

Clara's fingers tightened around the blanket. I glanced at the twins.

"Congratulations, Clara."

She looked surprised. I continued.

"Your sons are beautiful. You should be proud."

Mrs. Vance immediately lifted her chin. "They are the Vance family's heirs."

"I know." I looked at her. "And I hope they grow up surrounded by better people than I was."

Her expression hardened. "Sophia, watch your words."

I gave her a polite smile. "For three years, I watched every word I said." I paused. "I don't have to anymore."

Damien finally moved. "Sophia."

I turned toward him. He looked different tonight. Not because his appearance had changed. He was still dressed in a perfectly tailored black tuxedo. His dark hair was neatly styled. His expensive watch was visible beneath his sleeve. But the confidence was gone.

"You knew all along?" he asked.

"Yes."

"You're really Julian Sterling's sister?"

"Yes."

"You're the heiress to Sterling Global?"

"Yes."

He stared at me. "So the entire time..."

"The entire time, you thought I was nobody."

His jaw tightened. I did not need to say more. He knew. He remembered every time he had told me that I had nothing. Every time he had reminded me that he had paid my family's debt. Every time he had treated my existence in his house as a favor.

"You lied to me," he said.

I almost laughed. "That's what you're concerned about?"

His expression shifted. I stepped closer.

"You want to know what I lied about?"

He said nothing.

"I lied about being helpless."

The ballroom had gone unusually quiet around us. I could feel the attention of dozens of people, but for the first time in my life, I did not care.

"I lied about needing your money." I looked directly into his eyes. "And I lied about being willing to spend the rest of my life begging for your affection."

Damien's fingers curled slightly. "I never asked you to beg."

"No." My voice remained steady. "You simply made sure I knew what would happen if I stopped obeying you."

He looked away for a moment. Then his gaze returned to me.

"Is that why you handed me those papers?"

"Yes."

"You planned this."

"No." I shook my head. "I planned to love my husband." My voice softened. "That was the only plan I had."

For the first time, Damien looked genuinely shaken. I did not give him time to recover.

"The divorce papers are still valid."

Marcus stepped forward. He opened the black leather folder in his hand.

"Damien, the agreement has been reviewed."

Damien looked at him. Marcus's expression was professional.

"There are no conditions attached to Sophia's departure. Her personal assets remain entirely hers. There is also no legal basis for the Vance Group to make any claim against Sterling holdings."

Damien's face darkened. "I don't need her money."

"Good," Marcus replied. "Then signing the divorce should be easy."

Alexander leaned slightly against the table beside him. His gaze remained on Damien.

"You've already wasted three years."

Damien looked at him sharply. Alexander smiled faintly.

"Don't waste another day."

I turned away from them.

Across the ballroom, several executives had already begun approaching Julian, while reporters waited behind the designated press line.

The master of ceremonies stepped toward me. "Chairwoman Sterling, the press would like a statement regarding Sterling Global's expansion into Crestview City."

I glanced once more at Damien. He was still watching me. Three years ago, I would have searched his face for love. Tonight, I searched it for nothing.

"Let's begin." I walked toward the press area.

Behind me, I heard Damien call my name. I stopped. But I did not turn around. His voice came again.

"Sophia."

I closed my eyes for one brief second. Then I answered without look

ing back.

"Mrs. Vance is waiting for you."

And I walked away. For the first time in three years, I did not feel like someone's wife. I felt like myself.

The next morning, I woke up thinking about Alexander. I immediately frowned at myself. It had been one dinner. One. Yet somehow, his voice was the first thing that came to mind when I opened my eyes. I reached for my phone. No message. I stared at the screen for a moment before placing it back on the bedside table.Good.I didn't need another man filling my phone with endless messages. I got out of bed and started getting ready. By the time I reached the dining room, Julian was already there. He looked up from his coffee.“You're smiling.”“I am not.”“You are.”“I just woke up.”“Exactly.”I ignored him and reached for a cup.“Did you enjoy dinner?”“Yes.”“With Alexander?”I gave him a look. “Why are you so interested?”“I'm your brother.”“You're nosy.”He laughed. Before he could continue, my phone rang. Alexander. looked at the screen.Julian's smile returned. “Answer it.”“I was going to.” I walked away from the table before picking up. “Hello?”“Good morning.” His voice was cal

By six that evening, I had already changed my clothes twice. And I stood in front of the mirror in my bedroom, staring at the two dresses hanging beside me. One was black. The other was emerald green. I picked up the black dress. Then put it down. I picked up the green one. Then put that down too. I sighed. This was ridiculous. It was only dinner. At least, that was what I kept telling myself.Alexander had called earlier that afternoon. Not about Sterling Global. Not about a contract. Not about business. He had simply asked if I would have dinner with him. I had almost said no. Then I remembered how easy it had been to talk to him at lunch. He never asked questions about Damien. He never reminded me of the marriage I had just left. He didn't treat me like something fragile. So I agreed.I finally chose a simple black dress and left my hair loose around my shoulders. When I walked downstairs, Julian was waiting in the living room. His eyes moved over me.“Dinner?”“Yes.”“With Alexand

By eight the next morning, I was sitting at the head of the Sterling Global boardroom table. For three years, I had sat at the Vance dining table while Mrs. Vance decided whether I was worthy of eating with her family.I placed my folder on the table. “Good morning.”Everyone stood. “Good morning, Chairwoman Sterling.” Julian sat to my right. Marcus had joined us as legal counsel, while the rest of the executives watched me carefully. For years, Sterling Global had been run by people who had known my grandfather, then Julian. Now the youngest person in the room was me. I opened the first report. I kept reading.“Let's start with the shipping division.”The Chief Financial Officer slid a document toward me. “Revenue increased by fourteen percent in the last quarter, but operating costs have also risen.”“Why?”Nobody spoke. He explained the increase. Then I pointed to one figure. “This supplier.”“Yes.”“Why has the company paid them nearly twice the previous contract rate?”“We've ha

I turned the photograph over again. The handwriting was unmistakably my grandfather's.“He knows where your father is.”For several seconds, nobody spoke. I looked at Harrison's younger face in the photograph, then at my father's. I had spent years believing my father was simply another painful part of my family's past. Now I was beginning to wonder if I had ever been told the truth about him."Where was this taken?" I asked.Julian took the photograph from my hand. "Westbridge.""And when?"He checked the date written in the corner. "Twenty-four years ago."I looked at my father again. He looked younger than I remembered. Not the version of him I had carried in my memories, but the man from before everything went wrong."Why was he with Grandfather?""I don't know.""You don't know?""I was away at university then."I turned to Marcus. "Can you find out?"He nodded. "Give me the photograph."I handed it to him.He examined it carefully before taking a picture of the back. "I'll have

"Who?"The word left my mouth before I could stop it.Julian didn't answer. He looked at the document in my hand, then at the phone on the desk. Marcus was studying him too."Julian," I said. "Who has the evidence?"He rubbed a hand over his jaw."I don't know if we should…""You should." My voice was steady. "You have spent years deciding what I should know and what I shouldn't. That ends today."Julian held my gaze for a moment. Then he said, "Harrison."I went still. An uneasiness settled over me, because Harrison had never once given me a reason to doubt him. "Chief Butler Harrison?"Julian nodded."But why would Grandfather leave it with him?""Because Harrison was one of the few people he trusted completely.""You knew he had something?""I suspected.""Suspected?"Julian exhaled."Your grandfather told Harrison to protect certain documents if anything happened to him. But after Grandfather died, Harrison refused to tell me where they were.""Why?""Because your grandfather gav

The message changed everything.“Now ask Julian why your grandfather was afraid of the Vance family.” I read it twice before lowering my phone.Julian noticed my expression. “What happened?”I handed him the phone. He read the message. His face changed immediately.I looked directly at him. "You knew," I said.Julian looked away."You knew there was something between Grandfather and the Vance family.""It wasn't that simple.""Then make it simple."My voice was calm, but I could feel anger building inside me. "For years, I believed my family collapsed because of business problems. I believed you and Grandfather did everything you could to protect me. I believed my marriage to Damien was completely separate from all of that."I stepped closer."But now I find out that Grandfather owned Westbridge, that he left instructions for me, and that he specifically mentioned people who knew what happened."Julian said nothing."And now someone is telling me to ask you about the Vance family."M
