Chapter 4

Penulis: June
Nyla looked at her coldly. Her voice carried a warning. "If I were you, I'd watch my tongue. This is a Summer family event, and it's not a secretary's place to cause drama. I could have you thrown out of here in a heartbeat."

Jordyn's smile froze for a moment. But a more vicious calculation flashed in her eyes. She suddenly stepped forward. Then she deliberately splashed the champagne in her hand onto her dress front. The expensive silk was instantly soaked by the liquid. It clung tightly to her body. She looked both disheveled and eye-catching.

"Oh no!" Jordyn immediately teared up. She covered her soaked dress. Her voice carried a sob as she shouted loudly. "Clark! Help me!"

Clark, who was chatting with important partners, heard the voice. He immediately dropped the conversation and walked over quickly. He saw Jordyn covered in wine stains. She looked pitiful.

"Jordyn! What happened? " Clark walked quickly to Jordyn's side. His tone was full of concern.

Jordyn immediately grabbed Clark's arm. Her head leaned gently on his arm. She cried even more pitifully. "Clark, I was just trying to make conversation with Mrs. Summer. I told her how funny it was that we ended up in similar colors, but she got upset and... and she pushed me! The champagne spilled all over my dress..."

Her voice trembled. Tears rolled down like pearls. "I know I shouldn't argue with Mrs. Summer, but I really didn't mean any harm. I just wanted us to get along..."

The guests around heard the commotion. They all turned to look this way. Whispers began to spread through the crowd. The looks toward Nyla carried questioning and accusation.

Clark's face instantly turned livid. He turned to glare angrily at Nyla. "Nyla! This is unacceptable! Jordyn was just being friendly, and you pushed her?"

Nyla watched Clark condemn her without listening to a single word of explanation. Her heart completely turned cold. She clenched her fists. Her voice was calm but suppressing anger. "I didn't push her. She spilled it on herself. If you don't believe me, check the security cameras."

"Don't lie to me!" Clark's voice rang out in the ballroom. It attracted more people's attention. "I saw how jealous you were when you saw her dress. I know exactly what kind of person you can be when you're angry!"

Nyla no longer defended herself. Since Clark and Jordyn wanted to perform this show, she would play along to the end.

She walked straight toward Jordyn, who was still fake crying. Under everyone's shocked gaze, she raised her hand and delivered a loud slap.

"Slap!"

The crisp sound echoed throughout the entire ballroom. All conversations stopped.

Jordyn was slapped and turned her head aside. She looked at Nyla in disbelief. She covered her face. Tears instantly burst forth. "You bitch! How dare you—"

Clark instantly flew into a rage. He raised his hand to strike back. But a strong hand gripped his wrist tightly.

"Clark," a low and dangerous voice sounded. "Hitting women isn't exactly the Summer family way, is it?"

Damon appeared beside them at some point. One hand was in his pants pocket. The other hand firmly controlled Clark's wrist. His gaze swept over Clark's livid face. Then it fell on Nyla's reddened eyes. "Especially your own wife."

Clark gritted his teeth in pain. But he couldn't break free from Damon's grip. "Uncle Damon! This is between me and Nyla. Stay out of it!"

"Is it?" Damon slowly released Clark's wrist. But the coldness in his eyes grew deeper. "Because from where I'm standing, it looks like you're taking sides with your assistant against your wife in public. That doesn't look very good for the Summer family reputation, does it?"

Just as the atmosphere was tense, Richard walked over accompanied by bodyguards.

"What's all this commotion?" Richard's voice was gentle but carried unquestionable authority. "This is a family celebration, not a battlefield."

He walked to Nyla's side. He gently patted her hand. "Nyla, my dear, are you alright? You look upset."

Nyla looked at this old man who had always loved her like a granddaughter. She held back tears and nodded. "I'm fine, Grandpa. Just a little misunderstanding."

"Misunderstanding?" Richard's sharp gaze swept over everyone present. It finally settled on Jordyn. "Young lady, I don't believe we've been properly introduced."

Jordyn immediately lowered her head. Her voice was as small as a mosquito. "I'm Jordyn, Mr. Clark's assistant."

"I see." Richard's tone became even colder. "Well, Miss Assistant, perhaps you should find somewhere to clean up. This is a family event, after all."

After being spoken to by the old master, Jordyn could only slink away to a corner. She didn't dare cause trouble anymore.

Clark saw this scene. He was even more dissatisfied in his heart. But he didn't dare act up in front of his grandfather.

To not worry Richard, Nyla forced a smile and chatted with the old man for a while. Until the banquet ended.

After the banquet ended, Clark walked straight to the passenger seat to open the door for Jordyn.

"Come on, I'll drive you home," he said to Jordyn. He completely ignored Nyla standing aside.

Clark said to Nyla without looking back. "Jordyn's had a traumatic evening thanks to you. The least I can do is make sure she gets home safely. You can take a cab."

"A cab? In this weather? From this location?" Nyla looked at the sky beginning to drizzle.

"Should've thought about that before you decided to humiliate my assistant," Clark said coldly. "Maybe this will teach you some manners for next time."

With that, he slammed the car door shut. He drove away with Jordyn. He left Nyla standing alone in the empty parking lot.

The sky began to rain heavily. Big raindrops hit the ground. They made pattering sounds. Nyla wore a thin dress. She was soon soaked through.

She tried to call a cab. But this location was too remote. No cars were willing to come. The rain got heavier and heavier. She could only curl up in a corner under the hotel eaves. She hugged herself and shivered.

Just when she felt desperate, a black umbrella suddenly appeared above her head. It shielded her from the wind and rain.

She looked up. She saw those familiar deep blue eyes.

"That's more like it," Valarie chirped.Nyla couldn't help but say, "Valarie, stop bullying Brandon all the time."Brandon turned to her and sighed dramatically. Taking Mia to work was exhausting, but every time she smiled at Damon, it made everything worth it."She'll be fine. Didn't you just say she loves us both equally? She'll cry for a bit, but if you stop taking her to the office, she'll get used to being at home," Nyla reasoned.Seeing Nyla's determination, Damon finally relented. "Alright, we'll try it tomorrow. But if she cries too much, you'll have to take her to the office.""Deal!" Nyla said....After getting ready for work the next morning, Damon kissed Mia on the cheek and headed for the door.As soon as he changed his shoes at the entrance, she reached her little arms toward him, asking to be held. And if you're free for lunch, don't bother coming home. If you need to work late, no rush to come back either."Damon chuckled. "You'

"Brandon, from now on, I'm entrusting Valarie to you," Jonathan said. "She's been spoiled by us and can be a little willful at times. I hope you'll be patient with her in your marriage, and I wish you both a lifetime of happiness together."Brandon held Valarie's hand tightly, his expression solemn. "Dad, don't worry. I'll cherish her with all my heart."Jonathan nodded, stepping down from the stage. He discreetly wiped away his tears. After exchanging vows and rings, Valarie and Brandon sealed their love with a kiss, surrounded by cheers and applause.…On the way home from the wedding, Nyla glanced at Damon. "I saw Mr. Weir wipe his tears so many times today. When Bunny gets married, you'll definitely be just like him, sneaking off somewhere to cry."Damon's grip on the steering wheel tightened slightly, his gaze sharpening. "No one will ever be good enough for my daughter. If she never gets married, we'll take care of her for the rest of our lives."Nyla raised an eyebrow and

"Of course! When's the wedding?" Nyla asked.Valarie shook her head. "We haven't decided yet. He'll come to my house in a few days to discuss it with my parents."Nyla raised an eyebrow. "You're about to get really busy. Planning a wedding alone will take a lot of work.""Yeah, I'm already getting a headache just thinking about it," Valarie replied....For the next few months, Valarie was completely consumed by wedding preparations and work, barely having time to catch her breath. The wedding was set for August 8th, leaving them with less than six months to finalize everything.Valarie even traveled abroad several times to meet with designers and ensure her wedding dress was exactly what she wanted.Beyond the dress, she and Brandon spent hours discussing every detail—from the venue to the wedding favors and bouquet choices....After months of nonstop planning, the big day finally arrived.Valarie was already up, getting her hair and makeup done at 2:00 a.m.By the time N

Valarie looked up and saw the approaching glow. When the figure finally stopped in front of her, she realized it was Brandon.Frowning, she asked, "Where did you go? I waited so long for you. And what are you hiding behind your back?"Brandon flipped his phone face-down on the table, revealing the flowers he had hidden. Then he dropped to one knee."Valarie, I had planned a perfect proposal for you, but when you asked earlier about the meaning of wearing a wedding dress, I knew I couldn't wait any longer."Before I met you, my life revolved solely around work. I never paused for anyone—I never cared whether the sun was rising or setting, or if the moon was full or waning. But everything changed after I met you."I began cherishing the thought of greeting you every morning, sharing meals with you, and standing by your side for life."Valarie, I want every morning to begin with us waking up together, and every night to end with us holding each other as we fall asleep."Finally, B

Of course, every time they visited Valarie's home, Phoebe would subtly—or sometimes not so subtly—hint that they should get married.Brandon had always assumed Valarie wasn't interested in marriage since she never responded to those hints. He hadn't considered proposing. But today, seeing her so excited about picking out baby clothes made him start to imagine a future with her—building a family, raising a child. That thought filled his heart with warmth. After more than three hours of shopping, they finally left the mall, their arms full of bags.Once they loaded everything into the car, Valarie turned to Brandon. "I'm starving. Let's grab something to eat."Brandon nodded. "Sure. What are you in the mood for?""I'm not picky. Is there anything good around here? I don't feel like going too far," she replied.Brandon paused, then said, "There's a place with ethnic cuisine nearby. I went there once for a business meeting—it was pretty authentic. Want to give it a try?""Sounds g
