Chapter 3

Author: Perfect Timing
His hand paused midair.

Then, he slapped Penny.

Blood seeped and soaked her bandaged face.

“Let me say this: stop making things difficult for me!”

He sneered and glared at her.

“The truth is, I love Penny. I’ve always loved her. As for you… I was just using you to build my career.

“You can’t compare to Penny in any aspect at all!”

Penny struggled.

She wanted to do something to let him know that it was her in the bed and not me.

However, Jared did not notice it.

Regardless of what she did, he only watched silently.

He did not care about her.

Penny was at her wits’ end and pointed at her tummy.

She thought that since she was pregnant, he would treat her well.

Jared was even more furious. His eyes burned in rage.

“You’re trying to use the child as leverage? Sammy, you’re thinking too much about this! I bet that child belongs to some random man!

“You know that Penny’s pregnant, so you deliberately got pregnant to distract me, didn’t you? Sammy, you’re such a vicious woman!”

He clenched his fist and punched Penny in the abdomen.

She was badly injured. She could not withstand the blow.

After a gruesome shriek, blood oozed out from her bottom half.

Penny suffered from a miscarriage because of Jared.

I instinctively touched my lower abdomen.

Jared treated Penny that badly only because he thought that was me.

He would be this cruel to only one person in the entire world.

That was me.

Without her baby, Penny lost her will to live.

She lay motionless on the bed.

Jared glanced indifferently at her, as if she were a dead object.

I wanted to know if he would still be this calm after he found out that he had killed his beloved woman and his own baby, whom he had been looking forward to for a long time.

I watched intently.

Suddenly, someone bumped into me.

“Are you blind?” Mary said.

I instinctively looked up and met her gaze.

I did not dare to make a sound.

I was afraid she would recognize me.

She stared at me for a very long while.

My palms were covered in cold sweat. I was afraid that she would recognize me.

“You’re mute too? Disgusting!” Mary said.

Then, she turned around and went to the ICU.

I let out a relieved sigh.

“Is Sammy dying?” Mary asked agitatedly. “I invited many influencers to set up their livestreams. When they arrive, you should cry before the cameras and request some compensation from the tour before she dies!”

She wanted to squeeze every last bit of value from me and used my “accident” to get money from the tour.

“How much can we get from that?” Jared was impatient. “I don’t care about small sums of money.”

“At least $3 million!” Mary said confidently. “After this, we can start our own livestream to earn money. It’ll be easy to earn $5 or $6 million that way.”

Jared’s eyes lit up.

$5 million was a lot to him.

Meanwhile, I had my $50 million.

The influencers that Mary invited arrived.

They started their livestreams in the hospital and made a big commotion.

The tour’s person-in-charge arrived with the influencers.

His face was pale as he explained, “We haven’t confirmed if this was an accident. We can’t immediately compensate you. $3 million is a lot of money…”

“But you almost killed my wife!”

Jared teared up and said in a trembling voice, “I can no longer be with her. How are you going to compensate for that?”

I was impressed by his acting.

Just moments ago, he was gleeful that I would die from the bear’s attack.

But just as quickly, he was crying in sorrow.

The livestream audience was touched by his cries and wanted to support him to get the $3 million he needed.

The influencers were even more absurd. They filmed Penny in her terrible state to get clicks through sympathy.

Once again, I thanked my lucky stars that I was not the one attacked by the bear.

Jared was portrayed as a loving husband in the livestreams.

Since he was good-looking, the viewers kept pouring in.

The tour manager was yelled at.

Due to the immense pressure, he agreed to the $3 million compensation fee.

I was disappointed as I watched.

When I was about to collect my evidence to sue Jared for murder, Mary suddenly lunged and tried to pull my mask away.

“You witch, don’t think I didn’t recognize you!”

After a long rest, I took out a sum of money to start my own business. In the past, I helped Jared with his company. Everyone thought he was a prodigy at business. He accepted the praise and ignored me. He never mentioned me or accepted my support after that.Even though I was not happy about it, I loved him too much, so I still helped. I endured everything because I was his wife. But I wanted him to pay what he owed me.I had the ability and the experience. Very soon, I found collaborators as I started my business, and I managed to get a few new projects. I went on a field trip with my business partner. There, I ran into Jared. He no longer looked like a smug, successful CEO. Instead, he was wearing a crumpled, cheap suit. He sat on the floor and panted. He was holding a stack of brochures. He thought that he would be able to turn his business around if he tried. However, without my help, he could not do anything. “Sammy?”He saw me and glared furiously when

“Remember, you forced me to do this.”Jared told his assistant to bring over freshly printed divorce papers. To quickly divorce him, I took only a small portion of the assets with me. Jared was very pleased that he got the company. The day I divorced him, I went back to the mansion. Jared was arranging a grand funeral for Penny there. I noticed that he looked a lot more haggard. It was as if he had aged more than ten years. He was very much affected by Penny’s death. “Aren’t you jealous?”He pointed at Penny’s photo. “You’ll never get my attention in this life as she does.”‘Jealous?’ I thought.I looked at the grandly decorated hall and tried to hold back my laughter. Jared was too cocky. He thought that I would be jealous of a dead person. I had $50 million and a good life ahead of me. Why would I be jealous of Penny, who died a terrible death? After we finalized the divorce, I immediately packed my belongings and prepared to leave. “Don’t take anything ye

I shook my head. Jared roared, “You’re lying! It was you! If something happens to Penny, I’ll make you pay with your life!”In the past, I would have been upset and hurt at such a misunderstanding. But I no longer cared anymore. I almost laughed.“Please, I can’t make a brown bear attack her.”“Why not?” Jared was furious. “You deliberately passed the jacket to Penny so that the bear would attack her!” “Jacket? The one you gave me?” I reminded him coldly. Jared paused. He realized he had slipped up, so he remained quiet. He had given me that jacket. Inside, there was a package that would attract the brown bear’s senses. When I received the jacket, I teared up because I was so touched by his gesture. I thought he finally cared about me. It was the first time he had bought me a gift in many years. The jacket that I treasured was a death sentence. The doors to the emergency room opened. The nurses wheeled Penny, who was covered by a white cloth, out of the room.

Jared’s smile disappeared. Cold sweat broke out on his forehead. A vein throbbed at his temple. He choked me fiercely and said threateningly, “Say that again!” He loved Penny a lot. He could not consider the possibility of her getting hurt. “You don’t believe me?”I sneered and said, “We got our jackets mixed up. Her jacket is still in my bag. Take a look if you don’t believe me.”Jared opened my backpack doubtfully. Then, he took out the jacket from my bag. The jacket had Penny’s name tag on it. He threw it aside in shock. “Impossible! She texted me and said she was safe…” he muttered frantically.“You think I’ll believe you? You might be pulling this trick again to get my attention!”After that, he took out his phone to call the police. “I’m going to ask the police to do a fingerprint test, so everyone can see through your scheme!” Since he did not believe me, I did not bother to explain. The longer he dragged this on, the less likely Penny would survive.Af

Mary, who was initially smug, was also shocked and at a loss for words. Her face turned almost blue from holding her breath. She pointed at me and stuttered. The influencers filmed me as they did not know the truth. “Everyone, look! This is a home-wrecker who preys on men in the hospital! We’re teaching her a lesson today!”“Just look at that face! Total vulture!” They did not know me, but they were already treating me as though I were a mistress. The tour manager regained his senses. He rushed over to me. “Sammy? Are you alright?”After making sure I was not injured, he regained his composure. He then turned around and slapped Jared.“You can’t even tell if that’s your wife, and you demand compensation?” he yelled. “I might as well send you straight to hell!” Jared could not fight back. Instead, he lay on the floor moaning and shaking. The tour manager turned around and left after venting his anger. “What do you mean? Are you not going to pay us?”Mary came b

How did she recognize me?My heart pounded. I was trembling in fear. I kept pressing the mask to my face with both hands. I thought Jared knew everything.I thought maybe he knew I was hiding from him, so he was scheming with Mary to make me turn up here.Mary was very strong. I struggled and barely broke free. I was able to keep the mask on my face. “Mom, what’re you doing?” Jared walked over and stopped Mary. I met his gaze. His eyes suddenly turned sharp, as though he had seen through me.“Why’re you asking me? Ask her!” Mary crossed her arms and said smugly, “These women purposely prey on men in the hospital. She wants to seduce my son and be his mistress!” I was dumbfounded. My racing heart finally started to calm down. Fortunately, she had not recognized me. She just thought I was a floozy. Jared sized me up and sneered. “Don’t even think for a moment that you can have me. I’m loyal to my wife.”The influencers cheered when they heard that. They pra
