Evelyn’s POV

The cold shower did little to stop my thoughts. The water had washed the dirt from my skin, but not the heaviness from my chest. I stood before the open balcony doors, droplets sliding down my arms, the chill air brushing against me like a ghost’s hand. It was midnight,no one would see me bare like this.Somewhere beyond the dark trees, the night hummed softly with crickets and distant wind.

Aldric had been gone for too long. Every messenger that returned came with the same answer — he is healing. I wanted to believe it, but the words rang hollow. How strong was this old Lycan to wound him so deeply? Aldric was the most powerful Alpha in the northern packs. His name alone had made warriors bow and kingdoms bend. Yet now, even his shadow seemed fragile in my mind.

I wrapped my robe tighter as I walked into my room and sat at the edge of my bed. My reflection on the mirror across the room looked back at me —and she was pale, uncertain, eyes too full of questions I didn’t wa

***The Lycan Kingdom***The moon above the Lycan kingdom hung huge and full, painting the stone walls of the royal hall in silver fire. The sound of hurried footsteps echoed through the marble corridor, followed by the heavy thud of someone dropping to his knees before the dais.“Your Majesty!” The warrior’s voice trembled as he bowed low, his chest heaving from the run. “Forgive the intrusion, but the news is dire.”The Queen of the Lycans, queen Varka slowly rose from her throne. Just as the moon goddess was superior over the wolves,so was she to the Lycans. She stood tall, graceful, and terrifyingly beautiful, her silver-white hair spilled down her back like waterfalls. Her eyes—those same mercurial eyes her sons inherited gleamed like storm-forged steel. She was old, yes,but not in appearance. She still looked like a woman in her twenties.“Speak,” she ordered, her tone smooth yet deadly. “And do not hide a thing from me unless death follows your words.”The warrior swallowed hard

Pain burned through my veins like fire. I gritted my teeth, my vision blurring as I tried to rise, but my legs betrayed me. The wound from the goddess’s arrow was aching me. Its divine essence clung to my flesh, it made breath ache.“Let me help you, my Lord.”Rhydian’s voice was firm but laced with worry. He reached down and hooked his arm beneath mine, steadying me as I stumbled to my feet. The man was battered himself, his once-bright armor dulled with soot and blood, his silver hair sticking to his forehead.I managed a small, crooked grin. “You look worse than I do.”He smirked faintly. “At least I’m not glowing my lord.”True— faint veins of silver still pulsed beneath my skin where the goddess’s magic lingered. I could feel it gnawing at me from the inside, trying to remind me that I was going to fail but I ignored it Kaela turned toward us, her hands already lifting. “Enough standing in the open men. We need shelter.”The ground trembled under her voice. The air around her sh

The ground trembled under the weight of clashing power. Kaela’s dark magic burst in red-black waves as she fought the goddess’s soldiers, Rhydian’s sword glinting beside her like a streak of lightning.I stood still before the barrier. It glowed in golden light and I felt like it was watching me like a living thing, waiting for me to make my decision. The air thickened around me, the scent of divine magic biting at my skin, warning me to turn back.Kaelith stirred within me.“You know the Moon goddess is watching, don’t you?” his deep voice rumbled in my head, low and ancient.“I am very much aware,” I whispered, my eyes locked on the rippling glow. “Our mate waits beyond that wall,” Kaelith growled, his tone edged with primal hunger. “Her soul still hums for us, even if her mind does not remember. Find her. Mark her. Make her ours again. No one— not goddess, not Alpha, not mortal, will stop us.”My lips curved into a shadowed smile. “You forget, Kaelith… I am a beast, same as you.”H

The words hung in the air like a curse. For a long moment, I said nothing. The night wind howled across the cliffs, carrying the taste of magic and betrayal. My gaze fixed on the barrier, its light reflecting in my golden eyes, then I chuckled. “She truly thinks she can chain me,” I said at last, my tone quiet, almost dangerous. “I wonder what she's thinking now, that I will come and beg?.” I scoffed.“Preposterous,” Kaelith growled.Rhydian growled low. “The goddess has gone too far this time. She’s afraid of what you are, my Lord.”Kaela’s jaw tightened. “She’s not afraid,” she said bitterly. “She’s spiteful. The Lycan blood reminds her of her failure, the beings she created but couldn’t control.”I tilted my head slightly, studying the threads of power weaving through the barrier. It shimmered with divine essence…the kind that burned at my touch. Kaelith stirred deep within me, he was restless, and he snarled against the magic pressing down on us.“She’s severed my connection,” I murmu

Dylen’s POVThe barrier shimmered before me,a thin veil of light stretched across the valley, pulsing with strange energy. It was supposed to be steady, calm, but now it felt alive, unstable… and hostile.I narrowed my eyes, my senses spreading like shadow tendrils through the space between realms. Something was wrong. The pulse wasn’t natural,it carried the taste of divinity. Of her…The Moon Goddess. Of course it did,she created it. But something felt off.“She's watching…” Kaelith whispered. My jaw clenched. Of course she was watching, she always does. I guess she's watching to know if I would back down. Then a movement caught my eye. Shapes… faint, blurred… crossing through the barrier. I took a step forward, the night stilling around me. It was them.A group of wolves. Among them, an older male, broad shoulders, hair streaked with gray. Hold a second, that's Evelyn's father and in his arms, was a girl. Her head rested against his chest, her hair catching the pale glow of moonlight.

The willow swayed gently above me, its silver-green tendrils brushing the grass like fingertips stroking a harp. I sat beneath it, before a wide mirror that reflected me and the soft veil of mist curling through the air. The stillness around me was almost scary. There was no wind, no sound, just the faint murmur of my own breathing. Then… a sensation.A faint warmth trailed through my hair, like fingers parting each strand.I froze. My reflection didn’t move, she just sat there, perfectly calm, while I felt it.A hand. It felt real and warm.Sliding slowly down my hair to my shoulder. For some reason,I couldn't look back.My heart stuttered. “Who’s there?” I whispered, my voice swallowed by the mist. No one answered. Yet through the mirror, I could feel his presence behind me,it was close enough that his breath grazed the shell of my ear. Then his voice came, low and deep.“Avelynne…”My pulse jumped. No one had called me that name, not even Sylvara.“You look so gorgeous…”The words w
