~Elena~

I woke up early the next day even though I was tipsy the previous night. Even in my subconscious, I couldn’t stop thinking about one thing, and that was my meeting with Mr. Richard to talk about my book.

I wanted to look him in the eye as he talked to me about it. Most especially, I wanted to see if he caught on with what I was trying to do – the message I was trying to pass across.

I groaned as I reached for my phone, my eyes fully opened now. There were a couple of notifications across my social media apps, but one stood out, and that was the texts from Julian on iMessage. There were texts from last night too.

I clicked on them and began to read: “I hope you have settled in well, beautiful. This night was an amazing one. I never thought I would be able to connect with someone on such a deep level on the first date. There is something here and I would love to pursue it with everything I have. Goodnight beautiful, I’ll text you in the morning.”

A faint smile tugged against my

~Richard~I swallowed and nodded hastily, dismissing the thoughts of how things ended. “Yeah, of course. I felt the emotions from your characters right from the beginning of the book.”I looked at her and saw a knowing smile on her face, like she could see right past the façade I put up. “Okay.” She shrugged, still refusing to look away.I reached into the bag I had brought with me and pulled out a book, a favorite from when I was much younger: Jane Eyre by Charlotte Brontë.I stretched it to her. “This is one of my all-time favorites. Have you read it?” I asked, and she shook her head, collecting it from me.Our hands touched and we exchanged knowing glances again, her hand lingering on mine a little longer before she moved it away. I withdrew my hand, keeping them between my thighs. She stared at the cover for a few seconds before looking at me, a wide smile on her face. “Thank you so much. I promise to return it as soon as I am done reading,” she uttered, excitement dripping from h

~Elena~“So your mom has a family that you are seemingly cool with. What about your father? He doesn’t have any woman in his life? Or he is not just interested in that? Or did he have one and it didn’t work out?” I asked as I took a sip from my glass of wine.Julian stayed quiet for a few seconds, his eyes narrowing at me. “Why do I feel you are way more interested in my parents than you are in my personal life?”I scoffed, trying to act like that wasn’t exactly what was happening. “No, of course not.” I chuckled nervously.“Well, you haven’t asked any question that has to do with me as a person. It’s just about my parents,” he answered with a faint smile. It was obvious he wasn’t feeling that.“I… I am so sorry. Sometimes, I am always so curious that I have so many questions piled up in my head, and I need them to be answered. I am sorry. This is a date; it should be about us. I’ll stop.” I smiled widely, hoping that was going to be it.He sighed and let out another smile, this time

  • My Father's Best Friend, My Obsession   Manuscript

~Richard~After Julian left my office, I carried my PC and headed to my room. I heaved a loud sigh and shut the door behind me. I was still in my shirt and pants, so I walked to the closet and picked out my pajamas to wear after my shower.I stepped into the shower, turned on the warm water, and stood still for a while, letting the water run through my whole body. I couldn’t help but wonder how Julian’s date with Elena was going.I know this should be the least of my worries, but it just didn’t sit right with me. I couldn’t help but imagine what would happen when they ended up falling in love. But…‘Isn’t that what I should want for my son? That he finds a great girl like Elena and settles down with her?’ I questioned in my head.“So much for being a father,” I muttered, highly disgusted at myself. I had just gotten my son back, and I shouldn’t do anything to ruin that. After the divorce, Beatrice moved away with him, and I barely spoke to him until he was eighteen. Then we started ta

  • My Father's Best Friend, My Obsession   Date night

A week later. ~Julian~ I rushed down the stairs, adjusting my shirt, a wide smile plastered on my face. Tonight was the night—I would be taking Elena out on a date. I wasn’t sure why I was so excited about this, but I was. It felt like I was doing this for the first time.‘I really do like this girl.’ I scratched the back of my neck as I approached my father’s study. I met him inside, his glasses on and his eyes fixated on his personal computer, like he was working on some project.“Hey, Dad.”“Holy shit!” he cussed as he slammed his computer shut, looking startled as hell.“Whoa,” I put my hands out, laughter almost slipping from my lips. “Sorry, I didn’t mean to startle you.” I chuckled, and he let out a wide sigh.“Well, you sure did,” he answered, pushing his computer aside. He furrowed his brows as his eyes swept over my outfit. “Where are you going looking like that?” He smiled wide.“Let me guess,” he added before I could answer. “You’re going to see a girl, aren’t you?” he a

  • My Father's Best Friend, My Obsession   Bouquet of roses

~Elena~While my philosophy teacher was in front of the class teaching, I got myself busy with the manuscript I had promised to send to Mr. Richard. After the night of the welcome party, that is all I have been able to think of. I got home and immediately started writing a new book — precisely, a romance novel. In this novel, my two main characters just happened to be so similar to Mr. Richard and me.My female character, Elixir, has the same age, same hair color, the same physical traits as mine. The only difference between us was that she was way bolder and more outspoken than I was. This was one part of my character I wished was true about me.My male character, Ryan, has his age in the same bracket as Mr. Richard — his fifties. I made sure he looked and talked just like Mr. Richard. I even went as far as almost retelling our story the way it played out from the beginning.“Hey,” I heard a whisper beside me, but I was too caught up writing the NC scenes in my ninth chapter to raise
