Chapter 2

Author: Anonymous
Jonathan refused to believe that I, the woman who had loved him enough to give up everything for him, could possibly have fallen for someone else.

But when he followed me downstairs and saw the Rolls-Royce waiting outside, he couldn't help crying out in disbelief, "N-No way!"

I rolled my eyes. "You really need to get out more."

Then, under everyone's astonished gaze, I climbed into the passenger seat, and the car drove away.

Jonathan's face darkened with anger.

"Honestly, Mikayla really went overboard this time," Isabelle lamented. "I know she wants to make you jealous, but did she have to spend so much money hiring someone to pretend to be her boyfriend?

"And renting a Rolls-Royce must cost a fortune! She has no idea how hard you work to earn your money, Jonathan…"

Jonathan immediately seized on her explanation. He nodded and shook his head with a resigned expression.

"She's always been too obsessed with appearances. That's one of the reasons I've been so unhappy with her lately. But whatever. A husband has to be patient with his wife, right? We're getting married, after all."

Yet, instead of praising his generosity as they usually would, our classmates made excuses and began to leave.

After all, who would respect a man who abandoned the woman who had stood by him when he had nothing, then had the nerve to parade his mistress around in public?

…

I was at home sorting through my belongings when Jonathan suddenly kicked the door open, reeking of alcohol.

"Mikayla Matthews! What the hell are you trying to pull?"

The unexpected shout startled me. I whipped around and glared at him.

"What's wrong with you? Why are you back all of a sudden? Weren't you supposed to be spending the night at Isabelle's?"

Ever since Peter Holt died, Jonathan had been living with his widow under the excuse of looking after her. His sudden return couldn't possibly mean anything good.

Sure enough, he slammed his fist against the wall.

"What, am I interrupting your date with your new boyfriend? Tell me! Who was that guy who drove you home today? Where did you find that actor?"

I sneered. "Are you deaf? I told you he's my boyfriend. What part of that don't you understand?"

Jonathan froze for a moment before his eyes shifted.

"Do you seriously think I can't see what you're doing? You're just mad that I haven't been paying enough attention to you lately, so you decided to embarrass me in front of everyone at the reunion! Isabelle already figured out your little scheme, so quit pretending!"

I couldn't help laughing in sheer disbelief.

"You're both insane."

When I paid him no mind, Jonathan grew even more frustrated and came over to confront me.

"Mikayla, can't you show a little compassion? Isabelle's been through so much lately, and I'm the only person she has left to depend on. If I abandon her too, what's she supposed to do?"

I stopped what I was doing and looked at him seriously.

"And what about me? Do my feelings mean nothing to you? Have you ever stopped to think about how I feel when you keep parading her around in public?"

My questions caught him off guard for a moment, but he quickly looked away.

"You're making a big deal out of nothing. It's not like I'm refusing to marry you…"

What the hell was going through his head?

After everything he'd done, he still had the nerve to expect me to marry him.

It was then I decided I wasn't going to waste another word on him and simply held out my hand.

"Give me your keys."

He frowned. "Don't you have your own?"

I slammed the house deed onto the table.

"See for yourself. My parents paid for this house, and now that we're breaking up, you don't get to keep living here."

Jonathan lost his temper too and threw his keys on the floor.

"I knew your family never thought I was good enough for you! Let me tell you something, Mikayla. You can act all high and mighty now, but it won't be long before you're on your knees, begging me to come back!"

I picked up the keys and pointed toward the door.

"Get out. If you don't leave right now, I'm calling the cops."

Jonathan's face flushed with anger. He stormed out, slamming the door so hard that the entire house shook.

The moment they arrived at the police station, Isabelle dropped onto the floor and began crying."Officer, you have to help me! That man has been harassing my boyfriend and me. He even tried to rape me!"Gideon immediately backed her up. "He looks like a decent guy, but I can't believe he'd do something so disgusting!"Between the two of them, they quickly made Jonathan sound like a dangerous criminal. In the past, Jonathan had always been the one making false accusations against me. Now that someone was doing the same thing to him for the first time, he was completely at a loss for words. All he could do was keep repeating, "I didn't do that!"The police soon obtained the hospital's security footage. After reviewing it for a couple of minutes, they quickly pieced together the chain of events. One of the officers scoffed."None of you are innocent here. You all brought this mess on yourselves."The officer's words left all three of them humiliated and embarrassed. They exchang

Jonathan completely lost his temper."Who the hell does she think she is? Does she seriously think I can't find someone better than her? I'm not putting up with that bitch's attitude anymore!"With that, he headed straight to the hospital. On the way there, he couldn't help congratulating himself on how clever he'd been. At least he'd had the foresight to keep his options open. But when he walked into the hospital, looking thoroughly pleased with himself, he found Isabelle snuggled up in the arms of a man he'd never seen before."You haven't come to see me in so long. I was starting to think you'd forgotten about me," she said coyly.Gideon Grant caressed her waist as he replied, "How could I ever forget you? I've just been busy lately."Jonathan stopped dead in his tracks, staring at them in disbelief. For a moment, he thought he must be seeing things. But even after rubbing his eyes, he was still looking at the same scene.Under their horrified gazes, Jonathan lunged forward

I instinctively turned around and, sure enough, saw Jonathan's face.He glared furiously at Nathan."I knew it was you! Even back in college, I could tell you had a thing for my wife! I can't believe you actually came between us and ruined our relationship!"Nathan was a foot taller than Jonathan. He looked down at him and asked, "Do you need a pair of lifts so we can have this conversation at eye level?"I couldn't help bursting into laughter. Nathan really knew how to hit someone where it hurt.Seeing that I was laughing at him instead of taking his side, Jonathan gritted his teeth."Mikayla Matthews! You're nothing but damaged goods! All I did was have a baby with Isabelle without your permission. Did you really have to take things this far—ouch!"Before he could finish, Nathan punched him hard across the face.Jonathan fell to the ground, blood trickling from the corner of his mouth. He raised a trembling finger and pointed at Nathan."Y-You actually hit me!"Nathan flexe

Nathan insisted that we go to an attorney to formalize our postnuptial agreement, but it wasn't because he wanted to protect his assets from me.Instead, he wanted to transfer most of his wealth into my name. I tried desperately to talk him out of it, but Nathan refused to budge.By the time I finished signing the thick stack of documents at the attorney's office, I could only shake my head helplessly."Aren't you worried I only married you for your money?"Nathan wrapped an arm around my shoulders and proudly lifted his chin. "Wouldn't that be great? At least I'd know I was rich enough for my wife to marry me for my money."There was something I'd been wanting to ask him for a long time, and I finally decided to bring it up."Nathan, why did you want to marry me? And why are you so nice to me?"Everything between us had happened so quickly.I'd first met Nathan years ago, when I arrived on campus as a freshman, completely unfamiliar with my new surroundings. He was the first

Less than five minutes after I posted our marriage certificate on Instagram, Jonathan called me.Already irritated, I blocked his number and his account on every other social platform. But the peace lasted only a few seconds. Jonathan worked in sales, so getting another phone number was hardly a challenge for him.I sighed helplessly. It was obvious he wasn't going to leave me alone until I answered. After taking a deep breath, I finally picked up.The moment the call connected, Jonathan's fury-filled voice boomed from the receiver."Mikayla Matthews! Who the hell did you marry? Where did you find that pretty boy? I saw the photo on your marriage certificate! Fine, he's better-looking than me, but so what? You can't live on looks alone! God, you're so shallow!"Until he'd seen my Instagram post, Jonathan had still been clinging to the hope that my new relationship was nothing more than a stunt to make him jealous. But the marriage certificate had destroyed that hope. What in

When I came out of the bathroom, I found Nathan Arnault lounging on the couch, casually spinning my phone in his hand."Guess who just called you."I looked at him in confusion. "My parents?"Nathan gave me a mischievous grin. "That ex of yours."That was when I realized he was jealous.I immediately softened my voice and reassured him, "Jonathan and I haven't been in touch for ages. Besides, I'm already your wife, so don't be upset."The word "wife" clearly pleased him, and he couldn't keep the smile from spreading across his face."How can I call myself your husband when I haven't even met your parents?"I hesitated. "You want to meet them now?"Nathan nodded solemnly. "What? Are you embarrassed to introduce me to them?"Of course not!Nathan was the perfect man, both in terms of his looks and his family background. If anything, I felt like I was the lucky one in our relationship. It was just that…I rubbed my nose awkwardly."Everything happened so suddenly that I have
