Chapter 3

Author: Anonymous
Although Jonathan and I were about to get married, my parents had always raised me to believe that we should sleep in separate rooms until then.

Now that he was moving out, I needed to clear out his room.

I was halfway through packing when a picture suddenly fell from a hidden compartment in the bookshelf.

Curious, I picked it up, only to stare at the picture in disbelief.

It showed Jonathan and Isabelle when they were younger, smiling brightly at the camera.

His arm was wrapped tightly around her waist, and the way they held each other made it clear that their relationship had been anything but platonic.

What made it even worse was the background.

There I was, crouching on the floor and picking up the trash Jonathan had casually thrown away.

They'd been involved with one another behind my back for that long.

Meanwhile, I'd been completely oblivious to their affair and had almost thrown away my entire future for him.

The thought made me tremble with anger.

How could I have been so blind? I'd actually believed them when they insisted they were nothing more than friends.

Just then, Jonathan's backup phone began ringing.

When I saw "Izzy" on the caller ID, I hesitated for a moment before answering.

Jonathan was already with her, so why would she be calling a phone he'd left at my house?

I soon got my answer.

The moment I picked up, I heard the sounds of two people getting intimate.

"Jonathan, you just saw Mikayla, and now you're getting intimate with me. Isn't that a little too much?"

Isabelle's voice was soft and teasing.

Jonathan answered impatiently, "Don't bring that bitch up. She's so boring, and all she ever does is piss me off. If her family didn't have money, I would've dumped her a long time ago!

"You're so much better, Isabelle. You're smart, and you understand me. I wish I could spend the rest of my life with you."

Isabelle sighed. "If Mikayla finds out, she'll hate me even more. I don't even know what I did to deserve that."

Jonathan scoffed.

"Who cares what she thinks? She's been throwing herself at me for years. She can't live without me! She didn't dare make a scene when I got you pregnant, and I bet I could even bring our baby home and make her raise it without getting a word of protest."

I'd already prepared myself for the worst, but hearing the man I'd loved for so many years speak about me with such contempt still hurt more than I wanted to admit.

I'd wasted the best years of my youth on someone who had never deserved them.

After spending a long time in bed, Jonathan reluctantly got up to take a shower.

Isabelle seized the opportunity to pick up the phone and gloat.

"You heard all that, didn't you? If you know what's good for you, you'll get out of the way."

I smiled faintly.

"If he loves you so much, why didn't he get together with you all those years ago? Actually, never mind. You two deserve each other. I'll gladly get out of your way. After all, just looking at Jonathan makes me sick!"

Isabelle's voice went shrill with anger. "Why, you—"

I ended the call right then and there.

Then, I packed everything Jonathan owned and threw it all out. I couldn't stand the thought of having his belongings under my roof for even another second.

Just then, my phone lit up with a message from my boyfriend.

"Tomorrow seems like a good day. Shall we get married?"

I was a little surprised. "Isn't that a bit too soon?"

His reply came almost immediately.

"I just can't wait to make you my wife. I'm afraid you might change your mind, and then I'll be the one crying my eyes out."

I couldn't help smiling as I shook my head.

That man really was something else.

The moment they arrived at the police station, Isabelle dropped onto the floor and began crying."Officer, you have to help me! That man has been harassing my boyfriend and me. He even tried to rape me!"Gideon immediately backed her up. "He looks like a decent guy, but I can't believe he'd do something so disgusting!"Between the two of them, they quickly made Jonathan sound like a dangerous criminal. In the past, Jonathan had always been the one making false accusations against me. Now that someone was doing the same thing to him for the first time, he was completely at a loss for words. All he could do was keep repeating, "I didn't do that!"The police soon obtained the hospital's security footage. After reviewing it for a couple of minutes, they quickly pieced together the chain of events. One of the officers scoffed."None of you are innocent here. You all brought this mess on yourselves."The officer's words left all three of them humiliated and embarrassed. They exchang

Jonathan completely lost his temper."Who the hell does she think she is? Does she seriously think I can't find someone better than her? I'm not putting up with that bitch's attitude anymore!"With that, he headed straight to the hospital. On the way there, he couldn't help congratulating himself on how clever he'd been. At least he'd had the foresight to keep his options open. But when he walked into the hospital, looking thoroughly pleased with himself, he found Isabelle snuggled up in the arms of a man he'd never seen before."You haven't come to see me in so long. I was starting to think you'd forgotten about me," she said coyly.Gideon Grant caressed her waist as he replied, "How could I ever forget you? I've just been busy lately."Jonathan stopped dead in his tracks, staring at them in disbelief. For a moment, he thought he must be seeing things. But even after rubbing his eyes, he was still looking at the same scene.Under their horrified gazes, Jonathan lunged forward

I instinctively turned around and, sure enough, saw Jonathan's face.He glared furiously at Nathan."I knew it was you! Even back in college, I could tell you had a thing for my wife! I can't believe you actually came between us and ruined our relationship!"Nathan was a foot taller than Jonathan. He looked down at him and asked, "Do you need a pair of lifts so we can have this conversation at eye level?"I couldn't help bursting into laughter. Nathan really knew how to hit someone where it hurt.Seeing that I was laughing at him instead of taking his side, Jonathan gritted his teeth."Mikayla Matthews! You're nothing but damaged goods! All I did was have a baby with Isabelle without your permission. Did you really have to take things this far—ouch!"Before he could finish, Nathan punched him hard across the face.Jonathan fell to the ground, blood trickling from the corner of his mouth. He raised a trembling finger and pointed at Nathan."Y-You actually hit me!"Nathan flexe

Nathan insisted that we go to an attorney to formalize our postnuptial agreement, but it wasn't because he wanted to protect his assets from me.Instead, he wanted to transfer most of his wealth into my name. I tried desperately to talk him out of it, but Nathan refused to budge.By the time I finished signing the thick stack of documents at the attorney's office, I could only shake my head helplessly."Aren't you worried I only married you for your money?"Nathan wrapped an arm around my shoulders and proudly lifted his chin. "Wouldn't that be great? At least I'd know I was rich enough for my wife to marry me for my money."There was something I'd been wanting to ask him for a long time, and I finally decided to bring it up."Nathan, why did you want to marry me? And why are you so nice to me?"Everything between us had happened so quickly.I'd first met Nathan years ago, when I arrived on campus as a freshman, completely unfamiliar with my new surroundings. He was the first

Less than five minutes after I posted our marriage certificate on Instagram, Jonathan called me.Already irritated, I blocked his number and his account on every other social platform. But the peace lasted only a few seconds. Jonathan worked in sales, so getting another phone number was hardly a challenge for him.I sighed helplessly. It was obvious he wasn't going to leave me alone until I answered. After taking a deep breath, I finally picked up.The moment the call connected, Jonathan's fury-filled voice boomed from the receiver."Mikayla Matthews! Who the hell did you marry? Where did you find that pretty boy? I saw the photo on your marriage certificate! Fine, he's better-looking than me, but so what? You can't live on looks alone! God, you're so shallow!"Until he'd seen my Instagram post, Jonathan had still been clinging to the hope that my new relationship was nothing more than a stunt to make him jealous. But the marriage certificate had destroyed that hope. What in

When I came out of the bathroom, I found Nathan Arnault lounging on the couch, casually spinning my phone in his hand."Guess who just called you."I looked at him in confusion. "My parents?"Nathan gave me a mischievous grin. "That ex of yours."That was when I realized he was jealous.I immediately softened my voice and reassured him, "Jonathan and I haven't been in touch for ages. Besides, I'm already your wife, so don't be upset."The word "wife" clearly pleased him, and he couldn't keep the smile from spreading across his face."How can I call myself your husband when I haven't even met your parents?"I hesitated. "You want to meet them now?"Nathan nodded solemnly. "What? Are you embarrassed to introduce me to them?"Of course not!Nathan was the perfect man, both in terms of his looks and his family background. If anything, I felt like I was the lucky one in our relationship. It was just that…I rubbed my nose awkwardly."Everything happened so suddenly that I have
