MARCUS

When did I first meet this kid? Yesterday? Two days ago, when he tried to throw his money in my face?

I knew from minute one he was poison. A bad influence on my son. A walking threat to my career. And the way he looked at me... like he was starving and I was the meal.

I needed to get Eugene away from him. I needed to keep 'myself' away from him. The last time I tangled with a wealthy family, it cost me my rank and got me exiled to this city.

Yet here I was. Foolishly locked in his trap.

What the hell did he mean by do 'what I've been wanting to do'? The only thing I wanted to do was throw him in a holding cell and teach him a damn lesson. But his eyes were glued to my mouth.

"Jaxon Whitfield, open that door immediately," I ordered.

He ignored me. He took a slow step closer.

His expensive cologne filled my lungs. The heat radiating off his body was suffocating. My hands curled into tight fists. It took everything in my power not to shove him violently out of my space.

I don't look at men. I never have. I saw enough of that back in the police academy, and the thought of crossing that line—especially with a kid my son's age—turned my stomach.

That was what I thought, right up until his fingers brushed my silver badge.

His warm fingertips slid down the center of my chest, tracing the fabric of my uniform. A violent, hot shiver tore straight down my spine. My cock twitched hard against the confinement of my uniform pants before I could stop it.

My breath hitched. A heavy pulse shot straight south, until the front of my trousers grew tight and obvious.

My body was betraying me. All because of him.

I snatched his wrist, yanking his hand away from my chest.

"Whatever you think you're going to get from me, it’ll be over my dead body," I growled, my voice rough. "I will never lay a hand on you."

I expected him to flinch. To look frightened. Instead, Jaxon stepped up onto his toes. His face hovered inches from mine, his hot breath fanning across my jaw.

"Are you serious?" he whispered.

I froze. His free hand dropped lower, sliding dangerously close to my belt, then lower, brushing directly against the thick, strained outline of my cock.

The contact was light, almost like he was teasing me, but it sent a bolt of pure heat through me so sharp my knees nearly buckled. He felt it. He felt every rigid inch of what he was doing to me.

"You're not very honest, Officer. Good thing your body is..."

His lips grazed my neck. A spark of electricity hit my brain, and raced straight down to my dick, making it jerk against the pressure of his knuckles.

I shoved him hard. He stumbled back on the bed, a wicked grin on his face. My chest heaved as panic flooded my veins. I had never been turned on by a man in my life. Yet here I was, blood boiling, cock hard and aching just because of a boy.

"Jaxon! Are you in there? Is Officer Grant with you? His car is parked right outside!" Millicent's voice echoed through the heavy wood.

I glared at Jaxon. He leaned back on his elbows, legs parted, totally relaxed like he hadn't just had his hand on my dick and his mouth on my throat.

"Where is the key?" I hissed.

He dropped his eyes to his front pocket. I closed the distance, reached into his jeans, and snatched the silver key. I pointed it right at his face.

"Don't ever try this with me again. I will lock you up if you do," I warned.

I unlocked the door and ripped it open. Millicent stood in the hallway, wearing a transparent cream nightgown. She gasped, quickly tucking a strand of hair behind her ear.

"I didn't realize you were in there, Officer."

"Your nephew gave me the wrong directions. He’s a menace," I said tightly, glaring back into the room where Jaxon was still smirking.

Millicent waved a manicured hand. "I believe you. He’s been a nightmare since birth. Come to my room. We can discuss my security..."

She grabbed my arm, deliberately pressing her soft chest against my bicep.

"Understood, Miss Millicent."

"Oh, just call me Millicent. I'll call you Marcus," she purred, her voice dropping into a seductive whisper.

I forced a polite chuckle. "If that's what you want."

As I followed her down the hall, the adrenaline faded. I looked down. The heavy, burning heat that Jaxon had sparked... the throb that had left me hard and leaking inside my uniform... it was completely gone.

Then I realised... I felt absolutely nothing with this beautiful woman pressing against my side.

A cold sweat broke out on the back of my neck.

'Meeting that kid didn't rewire my brain... did it?'

JAXI cleared my throat, loud and harsh. Both Aunt Millicent and Marcus snapped their attention to me."Who were you here for again, Officer Grant?" I asked, crossing my arms.Marcus blinked, looking a bit lost for a second before he seemed to remember himself. He stepped away from my aunt and closed the distance between us."I came to thank you," he said, his deep voice rumbling. He reached out, his heavy hand clamping down firmly on my shoulder. "For finding Eugene last night. I apologize for being out of line with you."My eyes dropped to the large, rough hand gripping my shoulder. A violent jolt of heat shot straight down to my stomach. I could feel my cheeks flushing hot.God, he was so fucking striking. That stern face, those broad shoulders. Nobody in this world deserved him. Only me. Definitely not the wicked witch standing behind him."You should head inside. You must have classes to catch," Marcus said softly, his thumb pressing lightly into my collarbone.I parted my lips t

JAXYou must be wondering... Who the fuck is Millicent Grant?I met her when I was six, and even at that age, I hated her guts. She is my aunt—my father's spoiled youngest sister. When I was six, she was twelve, and a living nightmare.Back then, my father raised her like his own daughter. And how did that bitch return the favor? By making my life an absolute hell. She destroyed my school projects. She threw away my lunch. But the worst was when she brought her friends home, backed me into a corner, and forced me to strip down to my underwear just so they could all point and laugh at me.Thankfully, the old butler saw it. He told my father, and my father didn't hesitate. He packed her bags and shipped her off to my older aunt’s house. She did all of that just to prove my father loved her more, but she was dead wrong. And now, years later, she was coming back."You handle the welcoming," I growled, storming past the butler in the hallway. "I want no part of it."I walked into my bedroo

JAXI killed time until seven o’clock. My phone buzzed non-stop on the passenger seat... dozens of texts and missed calls from Eugene. I ignored every single one.I knew this completely ruined my plan of becoming his best buddy, but there was no way I was going to sit in a boring library. Not when I had the perfect excuse to show up at his house and see his hot father again.Just the memory of Marcus’s heavy, rough hands on me made my jeans feel way too tight. A low groan tore from my throat. I ran a hand through my silver hair, gripped the steering wheel, and sped toward the quiet, boring neighborhood where the Grants lived.I parked my green sports car two blocks away, stepping out into the cool night air. I adjusted my jacket, a cocky smirk pulling at my lips as I walked up the driveway to their red front door. I couldn't wait to see the look on Eugene’s face when I pushed my way inside.I pressed the doorbell. The lock clicked and the door swung open."It's way past your curfew, b

JAXMy butler never failed.I sat on the edge of my massive bed, sipping steaming black coffee as my thumb swiped across the tablet screen. The old man had gathered everything on Deputy Chief Marcus Grant and his son, Eugene.Eugene. Such a perfect, tragic name for a nerd.According to the file, his parents divorced when he was ten. He stayed with his mother until she remarried and popped out a whole new set of kids for her new husband. Feeling replaced, Eugene packed his bags after high school and moved in with his dad. Which meant the golden-haired boy and the stern officer barely knew each other. They were practically strangers living under the same roof.I swiped past Eugene's boring school records and got to the good part. My dear Marcus Grant. He was forty-two. Just twenty years older than me? A hot thrill shot straight down my spine. He didn't look a day over thirty-five.He used to be the Sheriff in his old city, but after a recent transfer, he was downgraded to Deputy. A mass

JAXI couldn't remember the last time I sat in the back of a squad car. Usually, a rookie brings me in, the senior officers yell at them, and I walk right out.I was just waiting for this handsome officer to get chewed out so I could leave. Next time he saw me, he’d know better. He drove in silence, the cruiser filled with a heavy, suffocating heat. When we finally pulled up to the bright station building, his phone rang.He stared at the caller ID, a deep frown cutting across his forehead. Curious, I leaned forward, trying to peek over his broad shoulder to see the name.A heavy hand shoved my chest back against the seat."What the hell is wrong with you?" he muttered, disconnecting the call and shoving the phone into his pocket. He grabbed my arm and yanked me out of the car. "Kids these days."Tsk. What’s wrong with a little peek?We walked into the loud, busy precinct. The second we stepped through the doors, every officer at their desks immediately stood up and saluted.Wait... w
