My heart thundered loudly in my chest as the maids behind me carefully fixed my hair. I had already taken several deep breaths, swallowing hard again and again, trying to calm myself, but nothing seemed to work. My hands were trembling. My breathing uneven. It felt like my chest might burst at any moment.
I lowered my gaze when I felt a warm hand gently wrap around mine. When I looked up, I saw my cousin. “Loti…” I whispered her name, my voice shaking as if I was about to cry. She smiled softly and squeezed my hand. “You can do this. We’re here for you,” she said reassuringly before letting go and stepping away.
One by one, the people behind me left as the ceremony was about to begin. The moment the church doors slowly opened, I instinctively lowered my gaze to the floor. My throat went dry. Swallowing once more, I forced my feet to move, taking slow, careful steps down the aisle.
The people around me became nothing but a blur. I couldn’t hear anything clearly. The only person my eyes could focus on was the man standing at the altar, waiting for me.
Ashton Hernandez.
I felt tears well up in my eyes, and I quickly wiped them away. Today was supposed to be the happiest day of my life. I was getting married. But instead of happiness, all I felt was fear… and emptiness. The only reason I was here was to take my sister’s place. She was the one who was supposed to marry him, but she refused. And so, my father chose me instead—forcing me to marry a man I didn’t know, a man I had never even spoken to.
As I walked closer, his features became clearer… and I realized something.
My sister was wrong.
Ashton Hernandez was not ugly. He wasn’t old. He wasn’t overweight. Standing in front of me was a man so handsome it almost felt unreal, like I was staring at an angel. If I had to describe him, I would say he was dangerously attractive.
Lost in my thoughts, I didn’t even notice that I had already reached his side.
“What are you thinking?” he suddenly asked, his voice deep and intimidating, snapping me back to reality.
“N-nothing,” I quickly replied, my voice trembling slightly.
I placed my hand on his arm, and together, we walked toward the priest. The ceremony began, but my mind wandered far away. I tried to glance behind me, searching for my father and my sister, but they weren’t there. A bitter smile formed on my lips. The only people present were my cousins and a few relatives.
I let out a quiet sigh and closed my eyes, trying to steady myself.
“You may now kiss the bride.”
The priest’s words startled me. My heart began pounding even faster as Ashton and I faced each other. I couldn’t see his face clearly because of the veil covering mine, but I could feel his intense gaze on me.
My hands trembled as he slowly lifted my veil. I immediately lowered my eyes, afraid that he might see the fear in them.
“You’re shaking,” he whispered softly as he leaned closer.
I could feel his warm breath brushing against my skin, sending an unfamiliar shiver down my spine. I swallowed and gently shook my head, keeping my gaze down. My heart was beating so fast it felt like it might explode.
“N-no…” I stuttered, silently cursing myself for sounding so weak.
I didn’t even understand where this fear was coming from.
My eyes widened when he suddenly held my chin and lifted my face. Our eyes met and for a moment, everything stopped. I couldn’t breathe. I couldn’t think.
“You’re scared of me?” he asked, his voice now softer… almost gentle.
I couldn’t answer.
Before I could even find my voice, he leaned in and pressed his lips against mine.
I gasped softly, instinctively gripping his hand, completely caught off guard by the sudden kiss.
MikaIt felt like a herd of wild horses was running inside my chest.“You’re… back,” I said, my voice trembling as I raised my shaking hand to wipe away the tears that had fallen from my eyes.I watched as he leaned his shoulder against the wall, his arms crossed over his chest while he stared at me.“I came back, so?” he asked, still not taking his eyes off me.I swallowed hard. Even from a distance, I could see how much he had changed. His body looked stronger, more defined, and his hair had grown longer than before.I opened my mouth to speak, but stopped when I saw him slowly walking toward me, his brows still furrowed as he stared at my face.I quickly lowered my gaze in embarrassment.“H-how are you?” I asked, unsure of how else to speak to him.If anything, I had so many questions for him and wanted to ask if he was here to divorce me.“I’m okay,” he replied immediately.I watched as his shoes stopped right in front of me. He was so close that I could smell his scent.I closed
Ashton“Here’s your coffee, sir,” the stewardess said as she placed the tray in front of me.I didn’t respond. I simply picked up the cup and took a sip before returning my attention to my laptop. But when I noticed she was still standing beside me, I looked at her.I stared at her coldly. I saw her swallow and take a step back under my gaze.“Get lost,” I said irritably, and she immediately obeyed.I knew exactly what she wanted—that’s why she stayed. She wanted to seduce me so I could sleep with her.But that would never happen.I have a wife.I busied myself typing on my laptop while waiting for us to arrive in the Philippines. When we landed, I immediately stood up and walked out. I grabbed my sunglasses and put them on.The warm sunlight greeted me, along with the fresh air.“Good morning, sir,” the flight attendants and pilots greeted in unison as I stepped out.I walked down the stairs and headed straight to the limousine. I got in, and the car immediately started moving. I sig
MikaI woke up because of the sunlight hitting my body. Slowly, I opened my eyes and sat up.My gaze immediately shifted to the space beside me, only to find it empty. The pillow he had used last night was already cold.He was gone. It felt like my whole world collapsed in that single realization. I swallowed hard and forced myself to stand, preparing myself for the day ahead.I stared blankly at my reflection in the mirror, my eyes lingering on the hickeys Ashton had left on my skin. I didn’t know why I couldn’t feel anything right now. My body ached, but it felt like nothing to me.It was as if everything had gone back to the way it was before he came. My old routine returned. My loneliness came back. And most of all… my silence.I never thought it would be this easy for him—to just pass through my life and leave as if nothing had happened. As if we were never married.“I heard that your father and your sister are coming home today, ma’am,” Yna said while gently brushing my long hai
Mika“Stop moving,” he whispered against my ear, his voice low and hoarse, sending a shiver down my spine.I shook my head weakly, trying to stop him from what he was doing.“S-stop—I… I…” my voice trembled, almost breaking. “I feel like I need to… pee,” I said tearfully, overwhelmed by the strange pressure building deep in my lower abdomen, a sensation I couldn’t understand but desperately wanted to escape.I tried to grab his hands from my waist, attempting to push him away, but I gasped loudly when he suddenly caught my wrists and pinned them above my head. His grip was firm, unyielding, and I knew I wouldn’t be able to break free. Our eyes met.For a brief moment, I saw something unfamiliar flash across his gaze, something intense, something dangerous, but it disappeared just as quickly.Slowly, he leaned down, his eyes dropping to my lips.
