Chapter 5- The same place

The doctor's office was calm, Anna could hear the clock ticking in the office. She was a bit nervous but the air conditioning in the office made her nerves calm down. She sat on the chair that directly faced the doctor.

The doctor flipped her file slowly.

"You said you had pains in your chest lately" The doctor said.

"Yes doctor"... It happen been happening Since my kidney surgery took place

"Surgery... what Surgery exactly." the doctor became more interested.

"I had a kidney transplant here in This hospital about a month ago".

The doctor took up the file again and examined it carefully. Upon discovering the situation he was, he leaned back to relax in his chair.

"Miss, you just had surgery. All these things you're experiencing is part of the recovering stages. And from the records you have here, everything from the surgery looks normal." The doctor said. "How about the sounds I hear," She asked embarrassingly.

"What sounds exactly?" The doctor asked.

"I have been hearing strange sounds coming from my chest since the day I had this operation." She. "It almost like... like that of a machine."

"A machine?" The doctor asked as he leaned forward.

Suddenly the sound came up again, "Oh my God... it just happened again, did you hear it?”

"I didn't hear anything," The doctor replied.

"After a major surgery like that, your body can feel different. Your nerves are still adjusting. Some patients may even imagine sensations that are not there" The doctor said.

"I am not imagining anything. This has been going on for about three weeks now." These words came out from Anna more violently than she intended.

"But medically, you are very fine." The doctor replied.

He then picked up his stethoscope and examined Anna's chest.

While he examined her, he looked up at Anna's face and she remained calm.

very calm.

"Your heart beat is normal." The doctor said.

"So there is nothing wrong with me?" Anna asked.

"Absolutely nothing," The doctor replied. Within her, she knew that was not true.

She knew what she heard.

If nothing was wrong... then what was happening to her?

Meanwhile, in the room where Adrian was, he was getting ready to leave. He had already signed his discharge papers.

"The car is outside the hospital"

"Everyone will be pleased to see you sir!" Michael Said.

"Indeed." Adrian replied.

They set out for the car that was already parked in front of the hospital.

They were in the same steps away from their room door when suddenly, Adrian Chest tightened. He walked slower and eventually stopped.

Michael looked at him.

Adrian didn't answer. He moved his right hand towards his chest region. His heart began to beat faster. faster than normal.

He felt like someone was calling him from inside his body.

"Is everything ok sir?" Michael asked. He moved his eyes to look at Michael. "I don't know," he said quietly.

Back in The office, Anna stood up from her sit. She was already disappointed. "Thank you," she said calmly. The doctor just gave a small nod.

"You're alright... ok? Just get some sleep…

Anna picked up her bag from the floor and headed straight towards the door.

But something inside her refused to believe what she had told her.

"How is nothing wrong? This doesn't make any sense."

She reached out for the door handle.

At the same, Adrian took a step forward again. He went on. Without saying anything, he changed direction.

Michael frowned.

"Sir, the exit is this way!"

"I know," He said while still moving in the opposite direction. Towards the lower floor.

Anna stepped out into the hallway.

Immediately her feet crossed she closed the door behind her she felt a surge in her chest. The surge was stronger than all others she got.

Her hands went to her chest. "What is..."

The sound came again, louder, faster. Jathiri click whirr.

Anna leaned against the wall. She felt her heart was literally moving.

Adrian stopped walking. He pressed his hand hard against his chest as he tried to feel his heartbeat. His heart beat was powerful, it was fast. It was uncontrolled.

This was the first time he felt something close to panic since the surgery. "What is happening?" he muttered to himself.

Anna looked up. She wasn't able to

See properly

People walked past her, but their faces

didn't matter.

All she could see was the pain in her

chest.

All she could hear was that sound.

"Something is wrong... very wrong"

Adrian kept on walking and walking.

His breath slowed down, but her

heart kept on beating faster.

His heart kept pulling him forward, too.

He was going in a familiar direction.

Anna pushed herself away from the wall.

She needed to think, she needed to leave

more importantly, she needed space.

She started walking as quickly as

possible with her hand still in his.

Adrian had already reached the corner.

just one more turn.

Anna turned the opposite direction at the same moment.

They passed within each other, close enough

But neither of them saw the other.

The feeling stopped.

Just like that. Anna slowed down. Her

breath was not in union. The sound

had gone and her chest felt... normal

again. "What was that?" she whispered.

Behind her, Adrian stopped walking.

He removed his hand from his chest.

His heart beat returned to normal.

His face wore a serious look.

He turned back slightly. "Something

is here" he murmured to himself.

Inside the office, the doctor sat still on his

chair. He had not moved since

Anne left.

The nurse stepped in.

"Doctor?"

He The Calm look on his face disappeared

slowly.

"She left it". The nurse's face changed.

"What should we do?"

The doctor hardened his expression.

"Nothing... for now." He said.

"But if she comes back again we can't

let her leave that easily."

Anna had already stepped outside the

hospital building.

Fresh air hit her face but it wasn't

enough to calm her.

"Nothing is wrong? That is what the

doctor said. But she knew better..she knew something inside her

was not normal.

Adrian stood in one position for a long time.

His eyes were fixed in the direction. of the lower floor.

"Sir?" Michael called on him

"Someone was here. I'm sure of it."

Adrian spoke without looking at him.

"What do you mean?" Michael asked.

Adrian returned his hand to his chest. By now, his heart beat was calm.

but he still had that weird feeling.

"I want to know who it was," he said as he lowered his voice.

"Find out!”
