MILES' POV

Both my hands stayed firmly on Cierra's ass as she sat on my lap, her legs spread on either side of me, her hands cupping my jaw as we kissed. Our lips stayed locked together, our tongues brushing against each other slowly, and I squeezed harder, feeling how soft she was beneath my palms. It was something I doubted I'd ever get used to, no matter how many times I touched her, no matter how many nights we'd already spent wrapped around each other in secret.

We were finally alone. No

  • My Husband Brought His Mistress Home   CHAPTER 192

ANABEL’S POV ~NINE MONTHS LATER~The first contraction came at four in the morning, while the house was still asleep.I lay very still in the dark, waiting for the pain to ease. When another one followed, I turned slightly and found Dmitri awake beside me, propped up on one elbow, his eyes fixed on my face. “It’s time,” I whispered. He immediately sat up and reached for the bedside lamp. “Are you sure?” I nodded, gripping the bedsheet as another wave of pain began to build. He threw back the covers and got out of bed, reaching for his phone. “Okay. I’ll get the car ready.” “Dmitri." He turned to look at me. “Come here.” He returned to my side and took my hand, his expression tense. "You’re going to be fine,” he said, brushing his thumb over my knuckles. “I’m right here. Breathe.” “I am breathing.”The hours that followed came to me in pieces. The car, the streetlights sliding across the ceiling, a wheelchair, and a nurse with a kind, tired voice asking me questions I answer

  • My Husband Brought His Mistress Home   CHAPTER 191

ANABEL'S POVHe wore a dark suit with a white rose pinned to his lapel. His hair was combed back, and his hands were clasped in front of him, perfectly still. But the moment I came around the last row of chairs, I saw his face, and I forgot every step I had rehearsed. He was looking at me as though I were the only thing in the garden. As though he had been waiting a very long time and had been firmly told not to move.I kept walking, and the distance between us grew smaller. Mr. Harrington stopped, placed my hand in Dmitri's, and stepped back. "Hello,” Dmitri said so quietly that only I could hear. “Hello.” “You look…” “Don’t,” I whispered. “I’ll cry.” “You’re already crying." “Then be quiet.” He smiled. The officiant, a gray-haired man with a warm, unhurried voice, began speaking, but I heard only half of what he said. Something about a long road and two people who had chosen to walk it together. My eyes kept drifting toward the stone bench and the empty space beside it

  • My Husband Brought His Mistress Home   CHAPTER 190

ANABEL'S POV The dress had been altered three times, and the seamstress still wasn’t happy with it. “One more breath out,” she said around a mouthful of pins, kneeling at my hem. “Just one. Then I’ll let you move.” “I’m trying, but my stomach isn’t cooperating. I had a very large breakfast.” “You’ve had a very large breakfast every morning for two weeks,” Chloe said from the window seat, where she sat in her sage-green bridesmaid dress, holding a champagne glass she kept pointedly refusing to offer me. “It’s a good thing, honestly. You used to survive on toast and tea.” “Chloe.” “I’m only saying you look healthy.” She took a sip, and her eyebrows did something suspicious over the rim of the glass. I laid my hand flat against my middle without meaning to. It was a habit I’d picked up lately, one I kept forgetting to hide. The seamstress glanced up, then looked down at her pins again without saying anything, which was exactly what I had hoped. A year had passed. I still couldn’t

  • My Husband Brought His Mistress Home   CHAPTER 189

DMITRI'S POVI kept my promise for five days.I didn’t follow her, and I didn’t send flowers or apologies through other people. I called because silence felt too much like abandoning her, but when she didn't answer, I eventually stopped counting. I sat in my study and worked until the figures blurred. On the sixth morning, I got into the car before I had even made up my mind and told the driver to take me to the Wilson Corporation. The tower was forty floors of glass and polished stone, and the lobby fell quiet when I walked in. Everyone there knew who I was, and everyone knew who owned the building now. A young woman at the top-floor reception desk rose to her feet and smoothed her blazer."Mr. Ivanov. I’m afraid Madam Chairwoman isn’t in.”"When do you expect her?” “She hasn’t been in since the signing, sir. She’s been working from the mansion.” She hesitated before adding in a lower voice, “She’s reviewed every file we’ve sent her. She sends them back with notes. Good ones. The d

  • My Husband Brought His Mistress Home   CHAPTER 188

ANABEL'S POV The phone buzzed against the nightstand for the ninth time that morning, and I turned it face down without looking. Five days. That was how long it had been since I walked out of the sitting room with my coat in my hand and my heart in pieces. Five days of missed calls and text messages that began with my name and ended with nothing. There had also been one long voice message, which I’d listened to for the first three seconds before my thumb hovered over the delete button. But I hadn’t deleted it. I was sitting at the desk by the window in the room I had slowly started calling mine. A stack of reports lay in front of me, quarterly figures from the Wilson Group. I had read the same paragraph four times without taking anything in. The door opened without a knock, and Chloe walked in carrying a tray. “I’m not hungry,” I said immediately. “I didn’t ask you.” She set the tray down on top of the reports, directly over the figures I had been pretending to read. There was t

  • My Husband Brought His Mistress Home   CHAPTER 187

DMITRI'S POV I had rehearsed it for eleven years, but none of the versions survived the drive home. Anabel sat beside me in the back seat with her head against the window. The streetlights slid across her face, one after another, and each time one passed, she looked a little more at peace. And somewhere along the way, she had started humming very quietly, a tune I didn’t recognize. I would have given anything to let her keep that peace. But I had watched her stand on those courthouse steps and say, I used to lie awake and think it was my fault, and something inside me had finally given way. She had spent two weeks believing she had killed a man by telling him the truth. She had come out the other side because someone had shown her the footage. And I was sitting beside her with a truth of my own, one that would send her right back into that darkness. I couldn’t let her go on loving me without knowing what she was loving. The mansion was quiet when we arrived. She took off her coa

ANABEL’S POVI woke up the next morning emotionally exhausted. The moment I opened my eyes, reality settled over me again. Cierra remained in the house. Miles was still avoiding me. ANABEL’S POVMy fingers trembled over the laptop as I looked at the screen, still trying to convince myself there had to be another explanation for what I was seeing. Maybe I misunderstood something. Maybe my mind was twisting everything because of what happened last night. But the more I went th
