Chapter 4

Penulis: July Koi
Leo's mouth jerked upon hearing this. His eyes became so bloodshot it looked like they would bleed.

“Are you trying to get on my nerves by pulling a prank like this? Is one slap not good enough for you? I can give you a couple more slaps if you want! Listen up, I’ll give you a divorce if that’s what you want! Even if Dianne came begging this time, I am still going to divorce you no matter what!”

I couldn't stand it anymore and shouted back at him, “Sure! I’d love to get divorced! And for the record, Dianne won’t have to waste her energy pleading with you anymore! Thanks to your complete neglect, she died of kidney failure! If you won’t believe me, go ahead and ask at the hospital. They will tell you that everything I just said is true!”

Leo narrowed the look in his eyes and fixed a prolonged look on me.

After a few seconds, he reached for his phone with trembling hands.

Before he could even make the call, Rosette ended up calling him. He immediately picked up as if that was the exact thing he had been waiting for.

Rosette’s voice came through the other end of the phone and she sounded like she had been crying.

“Leo, I think I caught a cold. I feel awful, I’m not going to die, am I? Would you stay by my side?”

“Alright, I’ll be there right away, don’t overthink it, alright? The doctor says you will recover just fine.”

Then, he hung up before glaring at me. “I'm not going to believe anything you say. We will settle what happens with Dianne after her birthday.”

With that, he turned around and slammed the door shut.

I thought about Dianne’s eighteenth birthday party that I had been preparing for the last three months. The thought that she would never get to join the party made me shed tears again.

It was a party that she had been particularly excited about. It was supposed to be held at a beautiful field right next to a lake, and the theme of the party was fashioned after one of her favorite castles in a fairy tale.

I wanted to give her everything she wanted. How could I not?

Since she was fond of the color pink, I reached for a pink ribbon I had prepared in my bag and tied a beautiful knot around the lid of the urn.

I looked forward to her birthday celebration tomorrow.

As night fell, I lay in bed and thought about her beautiful, radiant smile. I ended up staring at the ceiling until dawn.

Just like the countless nights before, Leo did not come home. I was not affected by it since I had grown completely numb to it by this point.

Around dawn, I got up and put on some light makeup to mask the heavy circles under my eyes that had formed because of all the accumulated stress over the past few days.

I knew my daughter was watching me from above. I was sure it would hurt her to see her mother in such a ruined and haggard state.

The staff who helped organize the birthday party had shown up in their coordinated outfits as well.

Soon, a row of pink flower baskets was brought out to decorate the passage leading to the castle. Colorful balloons decorated the tables filled with fresh fruits and desserts. A red carpet was laid out to lead the way to the castle.

My daughter had requested to not invite any of our relatives and friends. Instead, she had invited her classmates.

I held the urn containing her ashes and paraded down the walkway toward the castle. The entire time, I sensed bizarre stares from her classmates.

Then, I turned around and announced my daughter's death to them with an apologetic smile.

It was supposed to be a merry occasion, but the announcement took the wind out of the room in an instant. A heavy and oppressing silence fell over them.

“That’s impossible. Dianne just texted me a few days ago telling me how happy she was that the dress she had made was completed! She was talking about how excited she was to wear it today and celebrate her birthday!”

The girl who was completely floored by the announcement was Helena Brown, Dianne’s best friend.

Her classmates all echoed the same sentiment. They were all in disbelief that Dianne had passed away.

“Aunt Clarice, Dianne has always been eccentric and it’s just like her to pull such a weird prank on us. Alright, she got us good. Tell her to cut it out and come out!”

I held onto the urn tightly and tilted my head to the sky to try to hold back sadness. Despite that, tears continued to stream from my eyes. “My darling daughter will never grow up…”

“Yes, she will never grow up because you keep spoiling her! You’re the reason she always wants things her way!”

  • My Husband Sacrificed My Daughter   Chapter 10

Rosette seemed to have lost it. She clenched the knife in her hand and started walking towards me with a sinister smile.“I hate you! I finally got you two to get a divorce. Why must you show up now? I was already talking to Leo about the wedding. I was so close to climbing into the upper class of society. Why must you keep haunting me like a ghost?”I had already planned for the worst and was unfazed by the knife. “You’re the one who killed my daughter and now you’re playing the victim. A vicious woman like you will never find happiness.“You wouldn’t even spare a child that is barely an adult yet. Have you no conscience at all? You are destined to fail, destined to be looked down on by everyone! You are the scum of society and belong in the underbelly. You should have never seen the light of day!”I gestured at the phone I had placed right next to the vase by the entrance. “The moment I came in here, I had already started a live broadcast. The entire world has seen what you truly

At this point, Leo finally put the shrewdness and analytical ability he had learned in the business field to use. He shrugged Rosette's hand off and glared at her with a sharp look.“During the month when Clarice was away, you have been helping me take care of Dianne. That one time she had a fever, you were the one who took her to the hospital to get her treated. You have also helped attend the parent-teacher meetings and went through her homework. That means you would have access to her email.”Rosette started to cry and shake her head in denial. Tears began to fall again as she pleaded, “Why would I report myself? Why would I sabotage my career?”Leo deduced icily, “You were never good at the job anyway and have been complaining to me again and again about your colleagues ostracizing you. You just conveniently used the report to publicize our relationship.“You knew that now that the cat was out of the bag, you would get to claim the position of being my rightful wife barring any

After Leo left with Rosette, everyone came up to help me gather what was left of Dianne’s ashes. In the end, I ended up stuffing crumbs of pieces of the carpet, chunks of soil, and shreds of fruit into the urn. They were all stained with Dianne’s ashes.I buried Dianne the same day. After burying her, there was nothing more for me to worry about. I wandered numbly around the house and began thinking about how I could exact revenge for her. Even if it meant I would take them down with me, I would do it.Three days later, Helena came to visit me at my house. Her mother happened to be a doctor at the same hospital where Dianne and Rosette were admitted. She revealed a shocking secret to me.All the hate inside me boiled over, and I completely lost my senses from thereon. I threw all caution out the window and rushed straight to the apartment Leo had bought for Rosette.I then made a scene in the reception like a madwoman and told everyone about what Rosette had been doing.Leo had

I glared at him with reddened eyes. I thought about how much I had loved him and contrasted that with how much I hated him at that moment.I don’t know how long I attacked him, but when I was done, his eyes were bloodshot and his cheeks were swollen. There were more than dozens of scratch marks across his face.I was worn out from hitting him and had lost my voice by this point. I collapsed in front of what remained of Dianne’s ashes. Finally, I gathered whatever ashes I could manage and poured them back into the urn.Leo knelt beside me and put out his trembling hands as if to offer help. Before he could even graze against the ashes, I jabbed a kick at him. “Get out of here! Don’t touch my daughter!”Leo kept his head down the entire time, and his voice was choked up. “Clarice, I'm so sorry. I-I thought the nurse would take care of her. How could this have happened? The doctor told me that the operation was successful…”I cried out with a voice filled with anguish, “Did you thin

Rosette tried her best to keep her glee from boiling over and interjected, “Clarice, I know you are against Dianne donating her kidney to me. I admit it was wrong for us to keep it a secret from you. Still, how could you be so vicious and continue wishing for her death?“I may be an outsider, but I still have the heart to forgive her for what she did. How could you curse her like this? Do you call yourself her mother?”“Shut up, you witch! Don’t you dare even speak my daughter’s name again! You were the one who should have died instead!”The hatred had overwhelmed me to the point of bursting through my chest. I got up and charged madly at her. I was going to tear her apart with the sheer force of my hands! Before I could even grab her, Leo yanked me back by my hair. “How dare you try to hurt her?!”Terrified, Rosette frantically reversed the electric wheelchair from me while whimpering pathetically, “Leo, I was just trying to talk some sense into her. I didn’t think she would be s

  • My Husband Sacrificed My Daughter   Chapter 5

It was Leo who had shouted. He showed up out of nowhere and knocked over the rows of flower baskets.Rosette trailed behind him. She came in on an electric wheelchair and held a hand over her chest as if she was in pain. Her complexion was very pale like she was on the verge of death. She had several bodyguards surrounding her as well.I charged toward Leo to stop him.“Stop! Don't ruin these flowers. They were Dianne’s favorite. Do you know how much work we put into growing these flowers? I won’t let you ruin them!”Leo ignored my pleas and shoved me to the ground, making me nearly drop the urn as I fell.Leo looked around the scene and shouted angrily, “Dianne, get out here right now!”I stared at him in disbelief. I foolishly thought he finally felt some resemblance of guilt about his daughter passing away and came to pay his respects. “What is your problem? Weren’t you going to spend time with this bitch and miss our daughter's birthday anyway? Why can’t you let us proceed wi
