In Westminster
With my sexual identity, I was never attracted by any of the girls despite their dressings. To my advantage, my father was careful not to tamper with my knight, driver, and soldiers because that would be risky. I adapted to the situation easily by spending longer time with them. We ate together and the girls never had the chance to be with me. Nevertheless, to avoid that, my knight set the boundaries for them.
"Let me know when you wish to speak with the prince. I will always pass your message to him," he informed them with a harsh tone.
It was unclear to me if my father discussed my marriage with them. They were openly distraught to hear that from my knight and would have revolted if not for my Knight's unfriendly tone.
"We got it," the two of them said in unison while the other two walked away sadly.
"Good job, Philip," I complimented him for coming up with such conditions.
Nevertheless, I kept myself busy with the work of the kingdom. The economic growth was paramount in my mind and I worked hard towards it.
"What do we lack in our kingdom? We need to leverage on that to enhance our economy and be ahead of other neighboring kingdoms," I proposed to my team members.
They were happy with the idea and suggested many things that we import. Paramount among them were choice wine and perfume.
"We can begin to produce ours," I pointed out.
"That is good to know," my soldier, Capt. Celestine Fidel, said and my knight was puzzled.
"How can we produce what we hardly know about, My king," Philip asked me.
"We are young men and not too old to learn new things," I made it clear to them.
"Oh! If it is possible to learn how to produce them, why not," my driver said.
"How?" Capt. Fidel asked him.
"If I may ask, what are we producing?" Philip asked the driver.
"I think that perfume and quality wine would be good. The other kingdoms would patronize us."
They paused and focused on me. They were thrilled by my idea and wished that we should begin at once.
"My prince, you are a gift to this kingdom. The other princes who love extravagant life would patronize us," the captain said.
The others agreed with him and my driver asked me, "If I may ask, where do we go to learn the trade? Who would be willing to train us?"
"The three best wine-producing countries are France, Italy, and Spain. We can train under them," I answered him.
"What of the perfume?" Philip asked me.
"From my knowledge, concerning high-end fragrances, France has no equal," Celestine emphasized and the two focused on me.
"He is right. We will do more research on that. For now, let us go for lunch," I said and tried to get up.
My knight seemed more enthusiastic and halted me, "Excuse me, my prince," he said, and I sat back on my chair.
We all focused on him and he spoke, "Since France is good in both fragrance and wine, I propose that we learn under them."
"Yes. I agree with him," my driver said.
"I also agree with him but how can we learn under them? Will we invite them over or do we go to them?" Celestine asked them.
Presently, I was thrilled and made up my mind on what to do but allowed them to come up with an idea. They fixed their eyes on me and hoped to hear my opinion. To me, going to France was the best thing to happen to me. If I am away, the King and Queen will decide what to do with the girls.
"What do you think is right? Going to France to learn or bring them over."
"Going there," they answered me simultaneously.
"Why do you think so?" I asked them with a calm demeanor.
"It's less expensive."
"We will meet other trainees and exchange ideas."
"Our enemies would not know what we are doing until we have learned and started to produce."
Their ideas were cogent and convincing my father for his approval would be simple.
In conclusion, I said, "We are going to France."
Beautiful smiles flashed through their faces. They appreciated me for coming up with the idea and we ended the meeting. My Knight ensured that our lunch was ready and the girls were out of sight before he informed me.
Having lunch with them brought the memories of Julius and the longing to see him. I recall how he ate shyly and avoided my eyes whenever we ate together.
"What could he be doing?" I thought and ate my food without appetite.
The Local Bar And Resort
My supervisor was a nice man. He taught me how to take orders from the guests and serve them accordingly. I watched what the other workers were doing and learned very fast.
With my uniform, which featured a white shirt, black pants, and a tie, I looked different and could hardly be recognized. At the peak time, we had more customers than we could imagine. I observed that most of the tables were in dark spots, and one could hardly see the customers.
"How are they seeing in the dark?" I asked one of my colleagues.
"They like it that way. They don't want to see," he answered me with a smirk.
While we were talking, a couple walked in and walked straight to a table in a corner. The moon gave them the light to find their way.
"Go and take their order, Julius," my supervisor instructed me.
"I got it, Andrea," I said and walked towards the guests with my order sheets while he stood far off but was monitoring me.
Nevertheless, that was the first order I would take alone but I was cool. The order sheet made the work less stressful. I was a few inches before the table when the unexpected happened.
"Mark. What do you take me for?" A woman who seemed fifty-three years old was shouting and walking towards the table.
The Tenth Day - Reuben’s POV I have never seen such a show off before. Johnson had installed baby car seats in his car. He obtained permission from the authorities because he would cause gridlock on the roads as he transported the babies home. Also, he paid for a two-hour live broadcast on the television station. He mobilized the Swansea police while our security team was ready. Sarah, the presenter of The Family Tapestry TV Show was there. After the doctor assessed the babies, he discharged us."Let's go," Reuben said after we carried the babies. The camera men began to Pam their cameras as we walked to the car. The hospital staff waved us off, some with tears in their eyes whether from exhaustion or emotion, I couldn’t tell. Johnson’s ridiculous convoy stretched down the street, a parade of flashing lights and camera crews. I strapped the last baby into its seat, my fingers fumbling with the buckles. Sarah from The Family Tapestry leaned in, microphone in hand. "Reuben, how d
Johnson’s POV It was not easy shuttling between the house and the hospital, so, we moved into the hospital. Reuben had two children but I had three. I was ensuring that I didn't compromise his position as the firstborn. I studied his countenance and was pleased that it did not shrink. Our mothers arrived and volunteered to take over from us."You need to go home and rest, Son. We can continue," Reuben's mother said to me."No, Mom. We can do it together," I politely refused. My mom laughed at her and worked things out for her, "Don't bother yourself. I don't think they would agree to leave the babies."Huh! I have not seen such attachment," she pointed out.We laughed at her assertion and Reuben pacified her, "We will be fine, Mom."She smiled at him and gave him a searching look. She loved him so much and I could see the joy in her eyes."It's okay."We took more rooms to accommodate everyone. We ensured that we were part of the children's early lives. They see us before they sle
Being surprised was an understatement. Reuben and I sat frozen for a split second, our brains struggling to process what we were seeing. Two tiny bundles, swaddled in soft blankets, nestled in Mrs. Austin’s arms. My mouth fell open. "Two?" was all I managed to choke out. Reuben, ever the quick one to recover, let out a disbelieving laugh. "You ... you’re joking, Doctor." Mrs. Austin's eyes sparkled with amusement. "No joke, Bosses. You’ve got a pair of beautiful, healthy babies waiting to meet their fathers." I shot a look at the doctor, who merely shrugged, still grinning. "I wanted it to be a surprise. You’d mentioned only wanting to know the genders, not the number." Reuben made a strangled noise, somewhere between a laugh and a gasp. "Huh!" He cut himself off, shaking his head in awe. I stood up on shaky legs, my heart pounding so hard I was sure Reuben could hear it. Mrs. Austin stepped closer, carefully adjusting the babies in her arms. "This little one," she sa
Reuben’s POV I didn't want us to meet the surrogate chiefly because I was afraid that she might develop an interest in Johnson. I learned that intending parents are often involved in the immediate postpartum period, sharing the joy and excitement of meeting their baby. Yes, but I might be unable to withstand Johnson’s handshakes with the woman or possibly a hug in appreciation or emotional support."No way," I said while returning from my board meeting.I was not surprised to see my office locked. He had left for his office. When I settled down, I called the workers at the Westminster site to confirm the report from there. I was happy to know that the manager did not exaggerate the report. I had an untold joy in me - the arrival of the baby was not far from the reasons.Five Days Later Despite not wanting to meet the surrogate or know her, Johnson was so excited and wished to announce the arrival of the baby to the world, just to fulfill his desire. "Wait for us to leave the hospi
Johnson’s POV I held him tightly, right in the middle of his office, kissing him with all the passion he ignited in me. Reuben was desperate, his hands clutching at my shirt as if he feared I’d disappear. The way he loved me these days - fierce, unyielding - was both a wonder and a privilege. "My firstborn," I murmured, cradling his face. "Is there something you’re not telling me? You love me more than I ever imagined possible." He kissed me again, slow and sweet. "You keep proving I made the right choice. Thank you for choosing me." My chest tightened at his words. I pulled him closer, whispering against his lips, "You’re the best decision I've ever made. Thank you for accepting me." He rested his head on my shoulder, his breathing steadying as we stood there, wrapped in each other. After a long moment, I finally asked, "What did you want to show me?" Reuben lifted his head, his eyes gleaming with mischief and something deeper-something that made my pulse quicken. "This,
I pulled him close, resting my forehead against his. "Because you were there with me. I couldn’t have done it alone." He chuckled softly. "Well, next time, let’s just tell them from the start. My nerves can’t take another night like this." I kissed him lightly. "Deal." With that, we settled into the comfort of honesty and transparency and the peace that came with it. Suddenly, Julius' phone buzzed with a message. We turned to look at the phone which was on the candlestand. He picked it up at once and said, "It's from Big Brother."I was thrilled and adjusted. He tapped the message and began to read.Julius' POV Henry had been campaigning on our behalf concerning the project. He had been able to mobilize many people."Hello, Little brother. I hope you and Hendrick are doing well. I have received support from the following people and transferred it to you. Kindly contact and appreciate them through their attached contacts."I felt exhilarated and screamed, "Yes!" raising my two
