Steven's POV

My daughter, Millie Johnson, excitedly rushed toward the cruise ship the moment she got out of the car, where everyone seemed to be laughing and enjoying themselves.

That was the scene I saw after discreetly following her to this location.

Millie spotted me and innocently called out in surprise, "Daddy!"

Those present instantly fell silent after hearing that, the atmosphere turning terrifyingly tense.

My wife, Sophie Johnson, was dressed in a couture evening gown and had her arm linked with the man beside her. She instinctively withdrew her arm and asked, "W-What are you doing here, Steven?"

She paid no attention to the people whispering around her and rushed over to grab my hand, her whole body trembling. "It's not what you think, so please don't get the wrong idea, Steven!"

I stood there with bloodshot eyes and let out a bitter laugh. "Who is that man? What's with this third-anniversary celebration, Sophie?"

I looked down at the Patek Philippe, worth millions of dollars, on that man's wrist and suddenly realized how absurd it was to be wearing the cheap watch on my own wrist—one that I had worn for five years.

I remembered how Sophie had tearfully promised me that she'd replace my watch with a luxury one within three years. I had looked forward to that promise with such care, only to find out that what I had been waiting for was something she had given to another man.

I suddenly heard a familiar voice ringing out beside me. "You actually secretly followed your daughter to crash Sophie's wedding anniversary celebration? Who are you trying to fool here? You're clearly just desperate to marry into a wealthy family and rise above your station!"

That voice belonged to Jeremiah Hall, my best friend of ten years.

I looked at him in disbelief, feeling a sharp pang in my chest. Millie had always said that he was at Jeremiah's place to play with his dog, so I never questioned it because I trusted him.

It turned out Jeremiah was their accomplice, helping them deceive me all this time.

"You should know your place! I've seen plenty of freeloaders like you who are hell-bent on marrying into wealth!" Sophie's younger sister snapped. She had always greeted me warmly every time she ran into me in the past five years. She even always said she thought of me as her real brother.

Millie chimed in, "Uh-huh! Daddy is so annoying! He secretly followed me here!"

I felt a lump in my throat after hearing what Millie said. I got into a car accident while saving her when she was two years old. I bled so much that I went into hemorrhagic shock in the OR, yet I still forced myself to stay conscious long enough to leave her a will.

I had sacrificed so much for her, yet she was now snuggled up in another man's arms, treating me as though I were her sworn enemy.

I looked around in a daze at all the familiar faces—my neighbors, colleagues, and Sophie's best friend. It turned out that everyone knew Sophie was the heiress of the Johnson family. I was the only one who had been kept in the dark like a fool.

Sophie furrowed her brows, her eyes brimming with guilt. "You won't gain anything from making a scene here. I'll explain everything to you once we're home, so don't embarrass yourself in front of everyone, Steven."

I was the one embarrassing myself? I stubbornly held her gaze and let out a bitter, mocking laugh. "You just think I'm an embarrassment to you, don't you, Sophie?"

Sophie pinched the bridge of her nose in frustration.

Joseph Walker—the man in question—chuckled softly just as Sophie was about to say something, holding Millie in his arms. "There are plenty of men who want to be the other man in my marriage, Mr. Gunther. You're the first one to use a child to do it, though."

I clenched my fists tightly, digging my nails into my palms until they ached and went numb. I had spent five years living in a cramped rental with Sophie and three years as a full-time stay-at-home dad after quitting my job. How could he accuse me of doing it for money with a straight face?

I refused to turn and walk away in shame. I kept my eyes on Sophie, hoping she would say something in my defense.

Sophie, however, pushed me away without a moment's hesitation and said, "There are reporters nearby. I'm only doing this for your own good, so just do as I say and go, Steven."

I blinked hard, trying not to cry, and reached out to hold Millie, who suddenly let out a piercing wail and clawed at me with her hands. "I don't want to go with the bad man!"

Steven's POVBianca scooped Millie right into her arms.Millie was taken aback by Bianca's actions. She looked back at me, trying to gauge my reaction to see if Bianca was telling the truth.I kept my mouth shut, letting my silence serve as tacit agreement.Sophie was displeased again. She clearly couldn't stand the sight of the three of us looking like a perfect, happy family. She scowled and ordered, "Come here, Millie."She finally lost her temper when Millie refused to move and barked, "Get your ass over here, Millie!"I couldn't stomach the way she ordered everyone around, so I stepped right in front of Millie and Bianca. "Why can't you talk properly for once, Sophie? You've already done enough damage raising Millie the way you have. What more do you want? "I'll raise her with someone else from now on, so you don't have to concern yourself with her anymore. We weren't even legally married, so there's nothing else tying us together. You should just leave us alone from now o

  • My Little Girl Sold Me Out   Chapter 8

Steven's POVI wasn't surprised that Sophie and Millie found me. After all, it had been a year, and my reputation had already spread throughout the finance industry.Sophie, Millie, and I went to a cafe once the negotiation wrapped up.Millie wanted to sit next to me, and I didn't turn her down. Sophie looked at me with a conflicted expression. She looked as if she wanted to say something, but she ultimately remained silent."I know you like lemonade! I'll order it for you, Daddy!" Millie said, nervously gauging my reaction.I had to hand it to Mom and Dad—a year of their strict hands-on discipline really had made a difference.Sophie took the menu from Millie, disagreeing with her. "Your father doesn't like lemonade. He prefers black coffee." I glanced up at Sophie. She flushed with embarrassment and began nervously flipping through the menu. It turned out that my departure had actually forced the two of them to change their ways.In the end, both drinks were served, but I

  • My Little Girl Sold Me Out   Chapter 7

Steven's POVI froze for a moment before I looked up to study the woman in front of me. Bianca hadn't changed at all over the years. She still had that haughty, dismissive attitude and that unruly confidence. She was wearing something a singer would wear on stage, which wasn't surprising at all. She was a global singing sensation, fresh from her concert and still dressed for the stage, yet she was now kneeling right in front of me, carefully applying medicine to my wound.I shook my head in disbelief, finding the contrast too jarring. In a matter of days, I had gone through deception, betrayal, and a "divorce".Bianca was such a refreshing change from everyone else—being around her felt like finally getting a breath of fresh air after being suffocated by all the filth around me.Bianca caught me staring, but instead of getting shy, she seemed perfectly aware of her own beauty. She raised her chin slightly and gave me a faint, knowing smile. "I know I'm pretty, but you don't have

Third-Person POVJust then, Sophie's assistant hurried over and handed her the newly printed report. "We have the blood test results for the severed finger, Ms. Johnson!"Sophie froze on the spot the moment she took the report and looked at the results. She felt her blood run cold while her stomach churned with nausea. "H-How could it be Steven's? Joseph! Didn't you tell me you hadn't hurt him back then?"Sophie grabbed the man by the arm in a fit of rage, the veins in her neck standing out as her anger intensified."There must have been some mistake with the bloodwork, Sophie! I swear I haven't done anything to hurt Steven!"Sophie shoved Joseph away, her eyes bloodshot. She then gripped Millie by the arm and demanded coldly, "What exactly happened? What did Joseph tell you to do?"Millie looked at her enraged mother, then at Joseph, who was shaking all over with fear. She stopped crying and started hiccuping from fright. "Papa said there was a fun game where we trick Daddy. He

Third-Person POVIt was two hours later, and Sophie was supporting Joseph as they walked downstairs. She glanced over and spotted a bloody severed finger sitting in the corner of the stairwell. She stopped dead right then and there.Joseph yelped, "What's that? It couldn't possibly be a human finger, right, Sophie?"Sophie furrowed her brows as she stared intently at the bloody, slender finger. "It doesn't really look like a real one, so stop scaring yourself."She kept her voice steady as she tried to reassure him, but an inexplicable feeling of panic suddenly rose. She knew that something was amiss. That finger was clearly real, judging by its length and size. She recalled how Steven looked two hours ago—like he was genuinely on the brink of losing it—and felt a sharp pang in her chest. She couldn't shake the uneasy feeling. She hurriedly took out her phone and called Millie, but no one answered. She tried Steven next, and that call went unanswered, too. That growing sense o

  • My Little Girl Sold Me Out   Chapter 4

Steven's POVIt wasn't long before I was pelted with water bottles and cans. "How dare you lie to us! We already published our stories because of you, Steven!"I remained on the spot. I merely gritted my teeth as I hunched over in shame, completely stripped of my dignity. I didn't even know how much time had passed before the reporters dispersed.Just then, my phone started blowing up again. I clicked on one of the messages. "Your story is all over the Internet, Steven! Your part-time employer is furious about the publicity and is demanding compensation for the damage! Your parents are also on their way to the Walker residence!"I felt dizzy as soon as I saw the message. I was frantically trying to call Mom and Dad when a cab pulled up outside the Walker residence. Mom and Dad hurriedly got out and rushed toward me. "What on earth happened here, Steven?"I fought back the nausea and said, "You two should head back first! It's nothing serious!"Just then, Joseph came up from beh
