Nina’s POV

Darkness. Heavy, suffocating darkness.

That was where I was, where my body had fallen, where my soul felt stuck.

It was endless, like I was floating in a cold void where time didn’t exist. There was no sound, no warmth, only the pounding of my own heart echoing in my head. For a moment, I thought this was death, that I had finally crossed into the nothingness people fear.

But then… slowly, very slowly, the black began to fade. A faint beep… beep… beep pulled me from the void, each sound dragging me closer to the surface. My eyes fought against the heaviness that sealed them shut. When they finally opened, the light burned, weak, but blinding to me.

The world didn’t come back all at once. It crept in, like morning light sliding through a crack. The ceiling above me was blurry, a pale color I couldn’t place. It shifted and swam in my vision as if I were underwater. My lashes felt heavy as I blinked, over and over, but the blur remained. Everything was so still. To

…my hands gripped the thin sheet, knuckles white, as my breathing grew shallow. Then I heard muffled voices. They were close. So close. My heart jumped into my throat, my ears straining to catch what they were saying. But I couldn’t make out the words, but the tone chilled me. Calm, controlled, and almost… satisfied. The door creaked open slowly, the light from outside spilled into the room, cutting a sharp line across the floor. My breath caught as I squinted, trying to make out the figures moving toward me. My vision was still blurred, but I could see enough, one shadow leading, the other following carefully behind. Footsteps. Slow and steady, almost too calm for the fear curling inside me. Then I tried to lift myself, every muscle screaming in protest. My arms gave out, and I sank back into the thin mattress, weak and trembling. I couldn’t stay down, not now. I forced myself again, my fingers clutching the sheet, but my body refused to listen. The only thing that moved was my he

I was drowning in my thoughts, begging the silence to answer me, when the door creaked. The sound was so soft at first, I thought I imagined it. But then it came again, slow, dragging, like someone was careful not to be heard. My heart leapt into my throat. I turned my head toward the sound, my weak eyes struggling to focus. The light from the window fell across the doorway, outlining a tall figure. The shadows hid his face, making him only a blur in my hazy vision. My breath hitched. Was it a doctor? A nurse? Someone who could help me? I blinked hard, forcing my eyes to make sense of the shape moving closer. Each step was unhurried, almost too calm, like he had all the time in the world. The floor groaned under his weight. I felt my fingers clutch the sheet. My chest tightened with every second that passed. When he reached the edge of the bed, the light finally caught his face but my sight was still blurred. I could only make out the outline of a jaw, the curve of a mouth, ey

Nina’s POV The phone rang, slicing through the thick, suffocating silence of the penthouse. That wasn’t my personal phone, it was the house line, the one only a few people had access to. My fingers hesitated before I picked it up. Maybe it was Elijah… maybe he had called to tell me were he was last night. But instead, I was met with poison dipped in honey. “Enjoying your stay all alone in that pretty glass cage Her voice was unmistakable…Vanessa. I gripped the receiver tighter, feeling the heat crawl up my neck. “You little witch,” I hissed. “You’ve really put Elijah under your spell, haven’t you?” She let out a laugh, cruel, musical, and mocking. “Oh Nina, still holding on to your little fairytale? You’ll regret this,” I snapped, “You crazy, lying witch.” “You’ll always be invisible to Elijah,” she said calmly. “Always. But this time? I’m going to make sure he forgets you for good.” I opened my mouth, but the next words out of hers were a dagger aimed straight at my soul. “Whil

Vanessa’s POV The sun had sunk into the skyline, bleeding red and gold across the glass walls of the penthouse. It was beautiful. Mockingly so. Elijah still hadn’t returned. I hadn’t left this room in hours, not since my brief call with Charles. This house, Nina’s house… breathes her. Every corner, every quiet creak in the floors, every scent woven into the silk cushions. I’m still here. With her. But not for long. The first stage of my plan is simple: Get Elijah away from here. And make sure he takes me with him. Nina has to be left alone. Alone long enough to start sinking into herself. Into the silence. Into the weight of knowing he’s somewhere else with me. And not just anywhere. Caldreath Cove. The name itself sounds like memory. The kind that tastes like salt and secrecy. The beach house. The hidden one. I remember hearing it only once, whispered on Elijah’s lips like something sacred. But sacred things leave marks. Nina… has a piece of herself there. That place has meant

Vanessa's POVNow I have finally broken her. It didn’t take much. Just a few twisted words. A fabricated version of events. A slight turn of the truth to make it cut deeper. She thinks Elijah wants her eyes. That he’s preparing to pluck them from her skull and hand them back to me like a gift wrapped in betrayal. The poor girl didn’t see it coming… how could she? I had to twist it all. I made her believe that the only reason the surgery had been delayed was because I begged Elijah to find her a donor. Out of pity. Out of mercy. But mercy isn’t something I trade in. The truth? Elijah never stopped fighting for me. He wants me whole again. And that includes getting me the replacements. That’s why I smile when I’m around him. That’s why I tilt my head in gentle gratitude when he speaks, like some fragile flower reblooming after winter. It feeds his ego. Keeps him near. But I don’t want their eyes. I want mine. The ones I was born with. The ones that opened for the first time under hospi
