MasukBeta Kael followed her without hesitation. That left only Damien and James inside. Damien stared at Aiden’s unconscious body. He tried to make his face look sad. Tried to look like a man mourning the possible death of another man. But deep inside him, something else was happening. He was happy. Aiden was finally going to be out of the picture. Finally. No more Aiden Miller. No more man standing between him and Amelia. Damien swallowed and turned toward James. He slowly walked over and placed a hand on his shoulder. “I’m sorry, James. I—” James immediately flung his hand away. “I don’t need your sympathy.” His voice was low and bitter. Damien’s expression changed. “James…” “Don’t act like you’re really sorry when you’re not.” James stared directly into his eyes. “Admit it.” Damien clenched his fist. “You’re happy he’s like this.” James’s voice trembled with anger. “Because finally, you’re going to have Amelia all to yourself.” “Jame
“James…” Seraphina called his name softly. James immediately raised his head. His eyes were swollen and painfully red, as though he had cried until there were no tears left inside him. His face looked exhausted, his shoulders slumped, and the expression in his eyes was enough to make Seraphina’s heart tighten. For one terrifying second, she thought the worst. Aiden didn’t make it. At least, that was what she thought. “What happened?” she asked immediately, worry filling her eyes. “Where’s Aiden?” James swallowed hard. “He’s inside the ward…” Seraphina’s eyes immediately shifted toward the closed door. Without saying another word, she walked toward it. Her fingers wrapped around the door handle. She hesitated for only a second before pushing it open. The ward was quiet. Almost unnaturally quiet. The first thing she heard was the steady beeping of a machine. Her eyes immediately landed on the bed. Aiden was lying there. He was unconscious. An ox
Seraphina quickly wiped them away, but more immediately followed. She lowered her head and kissed her daughter’s hand. “I’m here now, sweetheart.” Her voice cracked. “And I promise I’ll never leave you again.” She gently ran her fingers through Amelia’s hair. For a moment, she simply stayed there, watching her daughter sleep. Then the door opened. A nurse walked inside. She was the nurse assigned to Amelia and had come to check on her. She looked around the room. None of the people inside were familiar to her except Damien, whom she knew from the hospital. She immediately realized they must be Amelia’s family. “Dr. Damien…” She greeted him with a smile. Damien returned the smile. “How is she?” Seraphina immediately asked. “And when is she going to wake up?” The nurse glanced at Amelia. “She is stable for now, and she’s doing just fine.” Seraphina’s shoulders relaxed slightly. “We’ll run some tests once she wakes up before we discharge her.
Meanwhile, at the hospital, Damien’s car finally came to a stop in front of the building. The moment the car stopped, Damien opened the door and stepped out. Seraphina and Beta Kael followed behind him as they made their way inside the hospital. The hospital was unusually busy. Nurses hurried through the corridors with files in their hands, while doctors moved quickly from one ward to another. The sound of footsteps echoed throughout the hallway, mixed with the occasional beeping of medical equipment. Damien immediately approached one of the nurses at the reception. “Dr. Damien…” the nurse called excitedly when she recognized him. Almost every nurse in the hospital had a crush on Damien because of how handsome he was, and seeing him always seemed to brighten their day. Damien gave her a polite smile. “Can you please tell me which ward Dr. Cassia was admitted to?” “Of course,” the nurse replied immediately. “Ward twenty. And Alpha Aiden is in the emergency unit.”
“Don’t you dare come near me.” His voice was low and deadly. “I will finish you when I return from the hospital.” Donna’s lips parted. “Alaric…” “Pray that Aiden survives.” His eyes hardened. “Because if he doesn’t…” He paused. “I will kill you.” A cold shiver ran down Donna’s spine. Alaric turned around and walked away. Donna watched him disappear down the hallway. The moment he was gone, the strength left her body. She rested her back against the wall. Her legs slowly gave way beneath her. She slid down until she was sitting on the floor. Tears streamed down her cheeks. She covered her mouth as a sob escaped. She had almost died. But somehow, she was still alive. For now. She lowered her head and cried silently. Then… Just then she heard Footsteps. Donna quickly lifted her head. Someone was approaching. She wiped her tears immediately. A young woman appeared at the end of the hallway. Racheal. Aiden’s bride-to-be. Rache
“Alpha Alaric, I—” Donna didn’t even get the chance to finish. Alaric’s hand struck her across the face with enough force to snap her head to the side. Donna gasped, stumbling backward as she immediately raised a trembling hand to her cheek. Her eyes widened in shock as she stared at him. For a moment, she couldn’t understand what had just happened. “What… what happened?” Alaric’s chest heaved as rage burned across his face. “You lied to me!” His voice thundered through the hallway. Donna stared at him, completely confused. “About what?” Alaric didn’t answer. He grabbed her arm and dragged her out of the room. “Alpha Alaric—” Before she could say anything else, he grabbed her by the neck and slammed her against the wall. Donna’s back hit the wall hard. Her breath escaped her lungs. Alaric’s fingers tightened around her throat. “You knew!” His face was inches from hers. “You knew Evenly wasn’t Amelia’s biological mother!” Donna’s eyes widened
“I don’t know what you’re talking about, Aiden. You must be out of your damn mind!” Alpha Alaric barked, his voice laced with defiance. He flung the bullet onto the floor and shoved his hands into his pocket like he could bury the guilt along with them.“These bullets and that recording mean nothin
The moment she closed the ward door behind her, Cassia pressed her back to it and placed both hands over her chest. Her heart slammed like a trapped animal; she breathed shallow, trying to slow it. For one terrible second the world tilted and she wondered if she’d ever feel steady again. After seve
Cassia’s car came to a stop in front of her apartment. She exhaled, gripping the steering wheel for a moment before stepping out. She walked towards the front door. Damien’s car was parked out front. Her heart skipped. He’s here. She pushed open the door and froze. Damien sat slumped on the couch,
Meanwhile, Amelia and Tracy sat close to each other at the dining table. James sat opposite them, unmoving, as he stared at Amelia and Tracy.“Amelia… I thought you died,” Tracy finally said, voice shaking. She gave a faint smile. “Yeah… I thought I did too.”They all laughed softly, though the ai
