CHAPTER 2: A Night To Remember

Freya's POV

For one terrifying second, I thought I’d made the biggest mistake of my life!

My heart pounded like it wanted to escape my chest.. I opened my mouth to scream or shove him away or something when his lips crashed into mine.

I froze, eyes wide behind my mask.. then something in me melted.

His mouth was warm and sure as hhe kissed me like he’d been dying to do it all night.

My hands which had been ready to push him off, grabbed the front of his shirt instead and pulled him closer.

Between kisses I tried to speak.

“Wait... what are you...”

He didn’t let me finish as another deep kiss swallowed my words.

Our masks bumped together but the kind we wore left our lips free and thank the moon for that… I kissed him back hard.

I couldn’t help it.. heat pooled low in my belly so fast and wild. He groaned against my mouth lowly and roughly and the sound went straight through me.

His hands slid down my sides then up again, boldly and sure. When he cupped my breasts and squeezed, I gasped into the kiss and my nipples tightened under the thin fabric of my gown.

I should have been embarrassed. I should have stopped him. But instead, I arched into his touch like I’d been waiting my whole life for someone to touch me like this.

“You feel so good,” he muttered against my lips. “Been wanting to do this since I saw you standing there all nervous with that champagne glass.”

I laughed breathlessly.

“You’re trouble.”

“The best kind,” he said, and kissed me again, deeper.

He hiked my gown up with one hand, bunching the silky fabric around my waist while cool night air brushed my thighs.

I felt exposed but the way he looked at me... like I was the only thing in the whole world... made me feel powerful. He hooked a finger in my panties and pulled them aside with no teasing and no slow build.. just need.

Then he was inside me!

I cried out, the sound lost against his mouth as he filled me so perfectly it stole my breath.

He thrust deeply, steady and so good I saw stars again but this time for all the right reasons.

My back scraped the tree bark, but I didn’t care as I wrapped my legs around his waist, heels digging into his back. He held me up like I weighed nothing, strong arms locked under my thighs.

“Fuck,” he groaned against my neck. “You’re so tight. So wet for me.”

I moaned louder than I meant to.

“Don’t stop... please don’t stop.”

He didn’t.. he drove into me harder and faster, our bodies slapping together in the quiet woods.

Every thrust sent sparks through me and my fingers tangled in his hair under the edge of his mask. Kisses turned messy and desperate and I could feel my climax building.

“I’m... I’m gonna cum,” I gasped, voice breaking.

He growled, “Me too. Come with me, baby.”

We crashed over the edge together and my whole body shook as pleasure ripped through me wave after wave.

He buried himself deep and spilled inside me hot and endless. I felt every pulse, every drop and it was so much it trickled down my thigh when he finally stilled.

For a long moment we just breathed, foreheads pressed together, masks still in place.

My legs trembled when he lowered me gently to the ground and I fixed my panties and smoothed my gown down with shaky hands while he tucked himself away and adjusted his shirt with an awkward silence dropping between us.

He cleared his throat. .

“That… was incredible.”

“Yeah,” I whispered, cheeks burning. I couldn’t look him in the eye even with the masks. “It really was.”

He rubbed the back of his neck.

“We should head back to the party.”

I nodded too fast.

“Go on. I’ll… catch up in a minute.”

He gave me one last soft kiss on the lips then disappeared down the path toward the lights.

I stood there alone, heart still racing and legs still wobbly. Never in my whole life had sex felt like that.. so explosive and sweet. I knew I’d replay it in my head for weeks.. maybe forever!

I took a deep breath, fixed my hair the best I could and walked back to the party with what I hoped was a normal smile. I scanned the room for that tall dark mask with the silver lines and there he was…

He was leaning against a pillar, laughing with another woman! His hand rested low on her back and she giggled and touched his chest the same way I had minutes ago. My stomach dropped so fast I felt sick.

I turned away before he could spot me. Of course.. one quick fuck in the woods and he was already on to the next girl. Story of my life!

I slipped out the side door and went home with the night air suddenly too cold on my skin.

Back in my room I curled into a tight ball on my bed, still in my gown. My body ached in the best and worst ways as I replayed every kiss, every thrust and every moan.

It hurt so much more now, knowing it meant nothing to him. Hot tears slipped down my cheeks and I cried quietly into my pillow until sleep finally dragged me under.

***

I woke the next morning when my door banged open without a knock.

“Rise and shine, little sister!” Cassandra’s voice was sugar mixed with poison as she sauntered in like she owned the place, which let’s be honest, she basically did.

I sat up, rubbing my eyes.

“What do you want, Cass?”

She flopped onto the edge of my bed, grinning like she’d won the lottery.

“I saw you last night. Sneaking off into the woods with that tall masked stranger. Real classy, Freya. Did he at least make it good before he found out he was fucking an Omega?”

My face went hot.

“You were spying on me?”

She laughed sharply.

“Spying? Please. Half the pack saw you two disappear. I just happened to be outside getting some air. Whoever that guy was, he’s probably scrubbing his dick with bleach right now. Poor thing. If he only knew he stuck it in the family embarrassment.”

“Shut up,” I muttered, but my voice cracked.

Cassandra leaned in, eyes sparkling with mean delight.

“Oh come on. It’s funny. You finally get laid and it’s by someone who’ll never want you again once the mask comes off. Classic Freya move.”

I wanted to snap back but the hurt from last night was still raw. Before I could think of a good comeback, Dad’s voice boomed from the hallway.

“Girls! Enough. There’s a pack gathering this morning. Get dressed and be ready in twenty minutes.”

Cassandra rolled her eyes but stood up.

“Saved by Daddy again. Try not to look too freshly fucked at the gathering, sis.” She winked and sauntered out, slamming the door behind her.

***

I dressed in a simple blue dress, the one that didn’t draw attention. My body still remembered every touch from the woods and every time I moved, I felt it.. the ache and the memory. It made me angry and sad all at once.

We drove to the gathering in silence and the pack meeting ground was packed... wolves chatting, kids running around, the Alpha’s big chair set up at the front but he wasn't there.

Dad led us to our usual spot near the council seats. Cassandra walked like a queen, smiling at everyone and I trailed behind, head down but still brooding.

We were just about to sit when Cassandra suddenly stopped. Her eyes went wide as she pointed straight at me with her voice loud enough for the whole crowd to hear.

“What’s that?!”

Everyone turned and my heart stopped. I looked down at myself, confused, but I didn’t see anything wrong.

Cassandra’s finger stayed pointed with her face twisted in shock and something that looked a lot like triumph.

I swallowed hard with the suspense twisting in my gut. What the hell had she seen?!..

Chapter 42FREYA'S POV I had been angry before. Extremely angry. But it felt different this time. It felt more intense. Like what I had heard had struck the most fragile parts of my heart and everything in me was begging to strike back.Maybe it was because my children would have been affected if Cassandra's plan had worked out. I refused to believe she was not at fault. Deep down, I felt she had a hand in it. It was more than a coincidence that the one day she decided to visit just to "thank me" was the same day the antidote got contaminated. The thought of it made me laugh bitterly, but I had decided not to confront her directly. I had no solid proof she had done it, and without proof, Cassandra would only laugh in my face and make me look like the stupid one. It had happened too many times in the past and I'd learned my lesson. After receiving the second test result from Doctor Carver, confirming that he was indeed right, I forced out a smile and decided not to dwell on the sit

Chapter 41OWEN'S POVEarly the next morning, I began my usual routine of clearing and arranging my workspace while also thinking back on what had happened the previous day with Cassandra. Her sudden reaction had left me concerned for hours, but since there was no crazy news flying around about her, I guessed she had gotten better. I put the thought away, deciding to talk to Freya about it instead when she arrived. It would not be so long until both she and the Alpha would come together for their last session so I had to make sure I had all the antidotes and compounds in place. And besides, the Alpha was about to go against Damon himself, so I was willing to do anything within my power to make sure he was ready to face anything. I couldn't lose to Damon twice.Experimenting had become my favorite thing to do and I made sure to monitor my projects and attempts each day. The most important being the antidote.I picked up the two vials left that contained the antidote with a proud smi

Chapter 40CASSANDRA'S POV I was standing by the balcony, watching the entrance to the pack house and waiting. Desperation tugged at my heart as the minutes passed.Just when I decided to give up waiting and return to my room, Beta Julian walked through the gates with Alpha Gideon closely behind him."It's about time," I rolled my eyes and made my way down to the waiting lounge to meet them.He had gone to her cabin that morning for his second healing session and knowing that he was with her for hours stirred up something bitter inside of me.I put on my usual smile like I did when I had pack members around me. After all, I had to appear to be the kind of mate that would be perfect for Gideon and I could not risk any of the council members catching me off guard. My position was still very fragile since the public confirmation was not completed, and the uncertainty only worsened with Freya's return. I widened my smile as I approached them. I needed to know how much progress they were

Chapter 39FREYA'S POV The hours leading up to my next session with Damon were the most restless I'd ever been. One minute I was convincing myself that I could go through the sessions despite how much it demanded my emotional stamina, the next minute I was doubting I would be able to hold on until the session ended. And stopping halfway was not an option since it would destroy everything we'd worked hard for. "You know you don't have to do this, Freya, I promise I got it." Elena's voice snapped me back to the present and I realized I'd been standing at a particular spot, mindlessly rolling a small piece of cotton wool through my fingers."What?" I blinked."I can get her cleaned up while you rest. It seems you really need it anyway." "You just zoned out all of a sudden," Bria added, looking up at me from her bed."Oh! Shit, I'm sorry," I muttered, remembering that Elena and I had been cleaning her wounds that had now starting to heal.Rather than get pissed, she let out a soft chu

Chapter 38JULIAN'S POV The night could not have taken on a darker turn. Even though we had seen this coming and had began to put plans in place, the suddenness caused panic to spread over the whole tent. I ignored the way my heart beat unevenly in my chest as I carried the scroll up to the Gideon's tent. It almost felt like I was carrying the one weapon that could completely wipe out the entire pack as soon as I dropped it. He was already seated outside the tent, facing the blazing fire when I arrived.A few patrol wolves that were off duty hovered around, each one muttering silently to the other. Other than an intense glance, we did not exchange words with each other because we did not need to. We were both very aware of what to expect already and braced ourselves for it.He took the scroll and unfolded it unhurriedly and I watched the expression on his face as he read through each line.It was the same expression he had whenever we sat through executions and war meetings: cold,

Chapter 37GIDEON'S POV I stood close to the edge of the hill with my hands clasped behind me as I watched the orange color from the setting sun slowly fade out. Hearing footsteps behind me, I turned to see Julian leading Freya up towards me and a small smile touched my lips. "I apologize if my letter was too abrupt," I said as she stood a few feet behind me, carefully avoiding coming near the cliff."Oh it's nothing. It's one of the days I'm less busy. At some point, I was starting to worry if you called me for a health emergency, but it seems I was wrong," she said with a nervous chuckle."I only wanted to show you this," I gestured beyond the hill below us where a section of Damon's camp stretched. They were many meters away from us and in their own territory, but that did not mean that the sight left me unbothered. Hearing the faint noises from their camp and seeing the bonfires set up in different places reminded me constantly that they were not too far away."I'm not sure yo
