Chapter 35

FREYA'S POV

I had never seen Julian look as pale as he did while he listened to Finnley retell Bria's story. And it scared me. It was obvious that even he knew things were slowly getting out of hand.

Tense silence descended in the cabin as soon as Finnley was done and I felt goosebumps crawl over my skin just like it did the first time when I heard the whole thing when Bria told it.

"Are you sure she's going to be alright after all of this?" Julian muttered with concern, looking ove

Chapter 38JULIAN'S POV The night could not have taken on a darker turn. Even though we had seen this coming and had began to put plans in place, the suddenness caused panic to spread over the whole tent. I ignored the way my heart beat unevenly in my chest as I carried the scroll up to the Gideon's tent. It almost felt like I was carrying the one weapon that could completely wipe out the entire pack as soon as I dropped it. He was already seated outside the tent, facing the blazing fire when I arrived.A few patrol wolves that were off duty hovered around, each one muttering silently to the other. Other than an intense glance, we did not exchange words with each other because we did not need to. We were both very aware of what to expect already and braced ourselves for it.He took the scroll and unfolded it unhurriedly and I watched the expression on his face as he read through each line.It was the same expression he had whenever we sat through executions and war meetings: cold,

Chapter 37GIDEON'S POV I stood close to the edge of the hill with my hands clasped behind me as I watched the orange color from the setting sun slowly fade out. Hearing footsteps behind me, I turned to see Julian leading Freya up towards me and a small smile touched my lips. "I apologize if my letter was too abrupt," I said as she stood a few feet behind me, carefully avoiding coming near the cliff."Oh it's nothing. It's one of the days I'm less busy. At some point, I was starting to worry if you called me for a health emergency, but it seems I was wrong," she said with a nervous chuckle."I only wanted to show you this," I gestured beyond the hill below us where a section of Damon's camp stretched. They were many meters away from us and in their own territory, but that did not mean that the sight left me unbothered. Hearing the faint noises from their camp and seeing the bonfires set up in different places reminded me constantly that they were not too far away."I'm not sure yo

Chapter 36FREYA'S POV I was not sure how long I had walked but it must have been hours because I found myself at the river near the tree line.My instincts warned me that walking along this path alone without an escort was almost like walking to my own destruction, yet I shoved it aside and lowered myself to a fallen tree close to the river bank. Out here, no one monitored me. I needed the space and distance to think everything through without anyone watching me, trying to see if I was alright, because I really wasn't. And I did not have to put up a brave facade for anyone.Seconds later, as I sat in the stillness, I felt a restless energy beneath my skin and knew at once that it was my wolf reacting. I noticed that it moved more freely now than it had since my banishment. The restraint my father had placed seemed to have eased significantly since I returned to the pack. Every day near the bond source loosened the restraint little by little and strengthened my connection back to it

Julian muttered with concern, looking over his shoulder at her sleeping form."Bria's a strong woman. It's obvious that she's hurting badly but she's staying strong for all of us," Finnley responded and Julian sighed, rubbing his temples."She'll bounce back," Doctor Carver added. "The only thing is, I don't think people should come to see her right now until after a few days." "That can be done. I'll inform the Alpha of her return but no one else is to visit until you say so. Her parents need to be put at ease." Sera and Elena came

Chapter 34FINNLEY'S POV The sun burned hot against my bare back as I repeatedly raised my axe, slashing the log before me into different pieces.Feeling exhausted, I stood to take in some air and rest a while. The sound of knives hitting the strong bark of trees followed by the grunts of the others filled my ears. I'd been involving myself in anything that would keep my mind away from the pain tearing at my heart since Bria's disappearance. Every day, I waited for Julian to return from the borders, hoping there would be news of her, but his response remained the same. He assured us that the search parties were doing their best, and I knew he wasn't lying. Maybe it was time for me to stop hoping so desperately and just accept she was gone for good this time...Hot tears stung my eyes at the thought. If they could get Bria so easily and end her life like she was nothing, then they could do the same to any other person who tried to help us. Letting out a deep breath, I held my axe f

Chapter 33CASSANDRA'S POVI never missed eavesdropping on council meetings, not since the failed mating ceremony with Gideon. I could not always depend on old Reginald to give me a clear rundown of everything they discussed afterward so I just listened myself from a dark corner that made it difficult for anyone else to see me.Unfortunately, my father did not seem to agree to Reginald's proposition and I wished I could just lock the man up or something.I couldn't let him, or anyone else in fact, stand in our way so I did the one thing I knew would work.I knew the picture would completely throw him off balance and I was not wrong. Reginald had no idea what skeletons my father hid in his closet, that was my secret to keep and use to my own advantage but I was pretty sure my father would think Reginald knows of it and would expose him if he did not comply and vote in his favor. I knew as I walked back to my own quarters that the matter had been handled. As soon as Reginald was able
