JENNY DARLINGTON•

I ran into the house in a swift motion and stopped when I saw Stanley standing and speaking with Steven. I let out an exasperated breath and tried to walk calmly towards him. They seemed to have noticed me because they turned their heads towards me. I saw Diana giving me a nervous smile.

"What do you want?" I asked him with a cold tone, not even exchanging any sort of pleasantries with him. He arched his brow and uttered a snort.

"I came to pick my kid. I missed him. He will be staying with me for a week. After a week, you can come and pick him." He said.

I stared at him like I did not hear what he said. He had to pick my kid for a week, to do what in his house?

"First, my kid is not going with you for any week. Second, you have no right to call him your kid after you threw his mother out of your house. Third, leave now." I told him, my jaw clenching.

He tilted his head to the side and chuckled. "Really? I should leave. I am not leaving here without taking my kid." He said with determination.

My eyes twitched. "I want to see how you would." I said to him, glaring at him with daring eyes.

He smiled. "Good. I just want to inform you that I already dropped the divorce papers and I have signed my part. You can keep it after you are done and as for the kid… I will be claiming custody of Johnny soon. So if you don't want to waste some money, you can just hand over the kid to me quietly and get on with life." He said with a shrug.

I did not know how my hand raised on its own and it landed a slap on his face. His head swerved to the right immediately and my mother gasped.

"You won't take my kid from me…"

A slap went across my cheek and the rest of the words died in my throat as the reality of what just happened dawned on me.

Stanley… He… Stanley just slapped me on my face.

I raised my shocked gaze up to him and he scowled at me. "Never raise your hands at me." He sneered and walked past me.

My hand held my blazing cheek as I stood, shocked. Tears began to drip down my cheeks. Steven wanted to go after him but Diana pulled him back.

"Leave him." She told him.

I dropped my hands and shook my head. At least that stopped him from taking Johnny today. I looked up at my foster parents and walked into the room Johnny was. He probably did not hear his father's voice.

After staying in silence for a while, Steven broke it. "Are you really going to have him take Johnny away from you?"

I shook my head. "No." I replied curtly.

Diana seemed to realize something as she narrowed her eyes. "Wait, shouldn't you be at work?" She asked.

That came out of nowhere. Obviously.

Should I tell them I got fired? Yes, I should.

"I got fired. There was a new change of policy which needed limited workers. So… I am quite unlucky to be among those that we're sent away." I said, hardly feeling anything.

I wanted to numb the pain and make sure I was cold.

"But don't worry, I will have everything sorted out soon." I assured them but I knew that they were still worried.

I smiled and they got it. They did not want to push further.

When it was getting to noon time, I left with Johnny and headed home. I had dropped the divorce papers in the trash can back at Diana's house. I was not going to take any trash with me to my new life. Not even a remembrance.

I was busy scrolling through the internet, looking for job vacancies. There is no way I was going to just sit at home and wait for the job to come and meet me. I was not the lazy type. I was already feeling frustrated as I comb through the jobs there and I knew that I could lash out on anyone who disturbs me. Just as I was about to check one out and give up for today, my doorbell rang and a hiss ripped through my lips.

I was definitely not expecting anyone, so who was at the door?

I rose with great reluctance and went towards the door. I pulled the door open, only for me to see a man glancing around the place. I eyed from his head to his toe then back up again.

With my brows ached, I asked. "Who are you?"

He turned back to home and smiled so easily that had me confused for a while. "Hi, I am Jason."

"I don't care." I snapped, my face definitely not looking friendly but instead, he just smiled and moved closer.

"I noticed you moved in. I am actually your neighbor and I just thought that I should welcome you to the neighborhood." He said with a casual tone.

I was confused for two reasons. First is, he came to welcome because he wanted to. Second is, I did not know they welcome people into neighborhood. I just wanted the quietness the place bring.

I nodded my head and pulled a hard smile. "Thank you." I said and slammed the door shut.

I was not in for making of friends. Not even neighbors.

Just as I was about to return to what I was doing, a knock rapped on the door again and I scowled.

What does the mother fucker want?

I opened the door and made sure my glare was right in place as I eyed him. "What do you want?" I frowned.

"I just want to make friends with my neighbor. I mean what if we need each other's help some day?" He asked, his shoulders lifting in a casual shrug. What he said actually surprised me.

Me need his help? Did he drink anything?

I gave him a look over and opened the door for me to come out fully. I noticed the way his eyes ran down my body and he looked away. "Sir. I don't need any help. Thank you for be so considerate. I don't need it." I said, making sure my words were clear.

He smiled and nodded his head. "Okay, if you say so. J

If you need anything, you can just knock and apart from that, I see you are in no mood for any talks so I will leave you. Have a good day." He said, leaving me to watch walk back into his house.

I shook my head and entered back into the house, locking the door in the process. Throughout that day, I entered into different applications, hoping that when I wake up the next morning, I would get a notification to start a job that would fill the void in my heart and soul.

I stood at the cliff, the breeze blew roughly as I stared at the deep dark sea before me. I was feeling the urge to just slip into it. There was this can unto my soul from something beneath that water. I did not what it was but all I just wanted to do was answer. There was another burden in my heart which was stopping from taking that decision to fall. I could not think of what it was but I was not going to consider it.

Maybe if I fall into the deep dark waters, I will be free. Right?

Taking a step forward, I closed and prepared my mind for what was to come then I leaped. But something happened, I was some supposed to be going down but I was hanging by the cliff. I slid my eyes open, only for me to see someone holding my hand. I tried to snatch my hands from him but… what happened next was not what I was expecting.

That deep dark water disappeared and I was left alone. Again. But not swallowed.

Someone had saved me. Saved me from falling into depression.

I have a savior.

She was sipping coffee, dressed in her office wear and she turned a glance at me.The flashback of what happened last night replayed before my eyes again and I blinked, getting rid of it. Licking my lips, I opened my mouth to greet her. "Good morning," Her lips thinned into a smile as she gave me a light nod. "I made you a cup of coffee." She told me, reaching out for the other cup and extending it to me.I collected it and offered her an appreciative smile which she did not return but she turned back to the tray of served bacon and eggs. I had left Jason with Johnny because I did not want him to see me in this state. In such a vulnerable state.I sniffed in again, wiping the tears off my face but more tears came dropping uncontrollably. I continued to cry. No more thoughts. No more words. |My Marriage Is A Contract: Craving The Girl He Always Wanted| °Chapter Fourteen° •JENNIFER DARLINGTON•I sighed for the last time, anxiety settling in the pool of my stomach. This was the second gown I would be trying on and as I did, my confidence kept dropping by the rate. I stared at myself in the mirror, questions whirling in my head. Why was I bothered about the kind of dress I should wear to meet his mother? It was not like she would need to approve of me or anything.'But you have to let her approve of you. That way, Jason will not be caring for you and your son for nothing.' The voice said in my head. Closing my eyes briefly, I turned to the black gown I had chosen at first and let out a deep sigh.I bit my lips anxiously and picked up the black gown. Wearing it, I added the silvery bracelet to my wrist and did some light makeup. As soon as I was done, I stared at my reflection in the mirror. Satisfaction replaced the anxiety and I took my black purse. Okay, this was giv

She seemed fascinated by every part of the penthouse I showed her."So that place was the master bedroom," I told her, referring to the place she had dropped and arranged her boxes. She nodded slowly, pulling her lower lip in."Wait, how about my son's room?" She asked, a painful and reluctant expression on her face.I smiled lightly. "I have not prepared his room because I do not know what you want his room to be like but let me show you," I said and we both proceeded to the room just opposite ours. I already had the place cleared up before moving out from the place I used to live as Jennifer's neighbor. She glanced around. "This place seems spacious, don't you think?" She mused.I shrugged. "There is no other way. I can have Esther pick out some children's room themes and send them to you for revision." I

He hissed. He must be discussing the moving company with Esther. I was glad that they were yet to come though because I was not ready to leave this house.
