Amaya POV

His reaction caught me off guard. I froze, slowly looking up, confused. His jaw clenched tight and his neck tensed.

“Does it hurt?” I asked carefully.

He nodded, but his voice came out hoarse. “A bit…”

I frowned and slid my hand just a little lower, trying to feel around the edge of the bandage. But the moment I did, he sucked in his breath through his teeth, his jaw clenching even more.

“What about here?” I whispered, brushing over the side of his abdomen.

He shook his head, eyes closed now. “No,” he said. But even though he claimed it didn’t hurt, his whole body was taut like a stretched wire.

My gaze flicked downward, landing on the jagged scar that curved around his lower abdomen—where I guessed the stab wound had been.

The room felt too quiet, and before I could stop myself, I traced a finger around it. Not too hard, but just soft enough to feel the edges of it under my palm.

“Amaya…” he said, my name coming out strained like a whispered prayer.

I looked up again, but t

  • My Mate, Please Let Me Go   Chapter 130

Dante – POV Years went by. Many of my companions had been killed. I thought I was immune to loss… until it hit again. I was thirteen by then. That day, for a task, we were told to partner in pairs. As always, Noah was my partner. We had risen to the top in our skills and were known as the best duo in the camp. We were feared and respected just as much as we were envied. There were many times we were set up, but we always had each other’s backs. But that day, instead of fighting together, we were told to fight against each other. “Your most trusted companion can turn against you at any time,” they said. “You must be ready to eliminate them without hesitation.” We were to fight… until one of us dropped dead. I didn’t want to fight him, but he insisted. Said if we didn’t, we’d both get killed. Noah was stronger than me, so halfway through the fight, I was already bleeding and barely breathing. But at the last minute, with a dagger to my throat, he smiled one last time—

  • My Mate, Please Let Me Go   Chapter 129

Dante’s POVI used to live in a small village. I was raised by a single mother who was heavily pregnant at the time. As for my father… one day, he just got up and left. According to my mom, he went out to find work and wouldn’t return for a long while. But now that I’m older, I know better. He wasn’t coming back.We were poor. So poor that getting two meals a day was considered a blessing. But still… I was a happy kid. Whenever I got scared, my mom would sing to me. Every night. That lullaby became the only thing that could help me fall asleep. One night, it was the same routine. She tucked me in, kissed my forehead, and hummed that sweet tune, gently rubbing her swollen belly.“Is it going to be a girl or a boy?” I asked.“Hmm… what do you think?” she replied with a smile.I thought for a moment. “Boys are too rough,” I said seriously.“Oh really?” she chuckled.“Yeah. Noah hits hard when we play. He says boys should be strong and know how to fight. But I don’t like fighting.” I made

  • My Mate, Please Let Me Go   Chapter 128

Amaya POV“You’re shaking,”Dante’s voice snapped me out of whatever trance I’d fallen into.I blinked. My fingers were trembling at my sides and my breathing was uneven. I didn’t even realize I had gone that far off. How long had I been standing there? How long had he been watching?Well, it was long enough for him to notice something was wrong.“Why aren’t you coming in?” he asked.“I… I… I don’t know,” I whispered, looking away. But I did. I just couldn’t say it out loud.“You don’t have to come in if you don’t want to,” he said after a pause. “What is it you’re looking for? If you tell me, I can find it for you.”“No!” I said too quickly. “No… I have to do it.”I just needed to cross to the other side but my hands wouldn’t stop trembling.“You are shaking again,” Dante said gently. “Are you… afraid?”I didn’t reply, and without saying anything else, he pushed his wheelchair forward and extended his right hand.“I promised I wasn’t going to hurt you again,” he said softly. “And I

  • My Mate, Please Let Me Go   Chapter 127

Amaya POVSlap! The sound of the slap still echoed across the hall.I wasn’t planning to stay here long. So I hoped—really hoped—I wouldn’t be put in a situation like this. But some people just don’t know when to shut up.She stood frozen, one hand pressed against her cheek, clearly stunned, like she couldn’t believe I actually did that.I took a step closer until I was right in front of her. “If you ever speak to me like that again,” I said, “I won’t stop at just a slap.”She opened her mouth again, maybe to give an excuse.“Get out!” I yelled. She hesitated.“Now!”The command in my tone snapped her out of it. She grabbed the suitcase she had tossed earlier, still holding her cheek, and walked away.I stared at the empty hallway for a second after she left, then finally exhaled. My hands were still shaking slightly, but I didn’t regret it.A few minutes later, she came back—head bowed low, like she’d swallowed her pride and choked on it.“The room is ready,” she muttered, then point

  • My Mate, Please Let Me Go   Chapter 126

Amaya POVMy things were packed, and the car was parked right outside.“I’m going to miss you,” I said to Briella, wrapping her in a tight hug as we said our final goodbye.“Stay safe, okay?” she whispered, patting my back softly. When she pulled away, I crouched down a bit and gently touched her stomach—even though it was still flat.“You too, little guy,” I added with a small smile, and we both laughed.Ryder stepped forward to help carry my luggage, tossing it into the back of the car. He had volunteered to drive me to the airstrip where the private helicopter was waiting, and I was grateful. Really grateful. When we got to the airstrip, Cyrus and Dante were already there. Dante was inside the helicopter, while Cyrus stood outside. He helped load my things and pointed to my seat—which, of course, was right next to Dante.I hesitated at first but sat anyway. My grip tightened on the fabric of my dress, and to distract myself, I glanced outside, just in time to see Cyrus and Ryder hu

  • My Mate, Please Let Me Go   Chapter 125

Amaya POVJust like I told Dante—I didn’t visit him at the hospital after that day.For the next week, I was busy ordering things to be moved into my new place. Everything had to be exactly how I wanted it, which turned out to be way more complex and stressful than I expected. By the end of each day, I was drained.“And just like that, you’re now legally single,” Ryder said with a sigh as he signed the last page of the divorce papers. “Can you believe we were married for, what, eight months?”“Yeah, it feels so weird, doesn’t it?” I replied, flipping through the pages to be sure everything was in order. “I’m finally leaving this place.”“Is it weird that I don’t want you to?” he asked, stepping closer. Then he wrapped his arms around me and pulled me into a hug. “I’m gonna miss you so much.”“You know cell phones exist,” I muttered. Unlike before, when I wasn’t even allowed to text him and had to sneak around writing letters, I now had actual freedom.“Yeah, but it’s not the same,” he
