“Here,” I said, bringing the spoon to his mouth.

There were so many emotions swirling in my chest, I didn’t even know where to begin. Guilt. Sadness. Anger. That dull ache in my stomach I couldn’t name.

I didn’t know why I stayed. I could’ve walked out. I could’ve called the nurse, handed her the spoon, and walked away without looking back.
