I lay under the covers for what felt like an eternity, the sheets cocooning me in darkness and pain. Every inch of my body throbbed — a dull, insistent ache that refused to fade no matter how still I tried to be. Any movement felt like a raging fire. Lincoln’s voice drifted from somewhere beyond the fabric, soft but edged with panic, his words muffled yet desperate.

“Damnit, Jessie. I’m sorry. I just—I didn’t mean to. I’m just trying to help.”

His voice cracked, and I could hear the frustration pulling at the edges of his breath. I could almost see him running a trembling hand through his hair the way he always did when he blamed himself. I hear the sigh that follows and it changes his tone. Guilt clawed its way up my throat, hot and heavy. None of this was his fault. He’d been trying to help in the only way he knew how, even if his touch had sent a shudder of pain through me. Even if his aggression towards Grace was too much for me at the moment - he was trying to be protective.

It’s almost four in the morning when I hear a small knock at the door before it opens. I could feel that my eyes were heavy but I pull myself up to a sitting positioning next to a carefully resting Jessie and prepare for whoever is edging closer being the curtain that I had specifically drawn closed. I see the shoes from underneath and realize it’s a man and feel a sense of frustration immediately.“What the hell do you think you’re doing here?” I hiss out as my arm under Jessie tenses. I try to keep my tone to a minimum. I’d rather not wake her with this.“I’m here to speak to my wife.” I hated the way he said it. He said it as though she was his inherited property and it was agitating.“She’s under no obligation to speak to you. She’s divorcing you and as her attorney, I am to be present in any matters between you both - to serve as witness. It was her request, of course.” I smile cynically as I watch a win appear in his forehead. I never realized how small Alan was. He wasn’t tall

  • My Millionaire Husband’s Secret   Chapter 92: Alan’s POV

It’s been a few days without any intel on Jessie. Part of me was starting to feel anxious while the other part felt worried. It was hard to deal with my emotions at times. I genuinely fell in love in love with Jessie until I heard her last name - Adler. Then I felt a boiling hatred and resentment that I’d felt before and I turned it all towards her in one fellow swoop. Was it truly her fault? No.But someone had to suffer the consequences of my father’s death and with her father’s untimely death and my mother’s inability to grief leading up to her death, i was left with only with only one option - their darling daughter. The same daughter who’d lost both parents a short time after my parent’s deaths . Coincidencal - it could be, maybe if money hadn’t been involved. I still partially loved her still. If that’s of any meaning now. I just couldn’t lose sight of avenging my parents first. But I’d also do small gestures here and there. Like finding her grandmothers necklace. I really did

  • My Millionaire Husband’s Secret   Chapter 92: Jessie’s POV

After the monumental discovery that I may have a half sister, I decided to call it a night. Lincoln asked that Ivy take a photo of the document before reinserting it into my grandmother’s necklace again. He wanted to further investigate this and possibly meet with this woman to ask her a few questions about her previous relationship with my father. But I was more focused at the moment on the heirloom that lay cracked open like a walnut right in front of me. A necklace so sacred to me, tarnished by my own husband. To think he’d ever have some sort of decency in anything of importance to me; was foolish of me. He’s resented me since the moment we married. And that resentment had only blossomed into full-on hatred - over something that didn’t happen the way he was told it had - over a fabrication by one’s self-deflection. But that not what bothers me most. What bothers me most is how much effort he put into hiding this document. A partial government issued birth certificate with another

“Blaire?” I say in a confused voice as I look at the document sitting carefully “That’s what it says. The question is who is Blaire? And why did Alan have this?” Ivy says with furrowed brows as she stares at Jessie’s back. Jessie’s had her back turned to us both as she stared out the window into the night. She just found out that there’s a birth certificate that seems to be authentic with her father’s name of it and it’s not hers. And her husband, for some odd reason, has had it for some time now. Not only that, but he even went to the lengths to hide it within her grandmother’s family heirloom that was lost for years after her death. All after she was attacked, nearly assaulted and killed her attacker in self-defense. Jessie was distraught. Disturbed and devastated. I don’t know when the breaking point will come but I have been repeatedly astonished by her strength and that she still standing - even now. “Ivy, you still have that connection to that familial match company’s soft

The paper feels weightless in my hand, but somehow it anchors me to the table like gravity’s chosen me alone. I can’t breathe. The name—my father’s name—stares back at me from the torn edge of the certificate. My pulse stutters. No. No, that can’t be right. My father didn’t have any other children. I was an only child. I never had a sister? The edges of my vision blur as I run my thumb across the paper’s worn surface. It’s real—aged, brittle, with that faint musty scent of old ink and time. I can see the official seal, faint but unmistakable. It isn’t just a document—it’s proof of something I never knew existed.A name - Blaire . My father’s name. Side by side. And the date…I read it twice, then a third time, trying to make the numbers behave, to make them fit into my life as I know it. But they don’t. They can’t. She was born just before my father proposed to my mother.“Jessie,” Lincoln says softly, breaking through the fog in my head. His hand hovers near mine, hesitant, like he’

I wait patiently for Jessie’s response. The silence between us feels fragile, like a held breath. I wouldn’t dare pressure her into doing anything that might fracture the integrity of something so personal and sacred. This pendant wasn’t just a trinket—it was a heartbeat, the last pulse of a life she’d once had. All I could do was offer an alternative, a bridge between truth and the unbearable unknown. If Jessie doesn’t want to know—or worse, isn’t ready—then that’s her choice alone. I remind myself of that, even as I catch Lincoln’s furrowed brow in the corner of my eye. His worry is different from mine. I’m afraid of breaking her heart; he’s afraid she won’t be safe if she refuses to face what’s inside. But Jessie doesn’t notice either of us. Her gaze is locked on the pendant resting in her palms, and in that moment, she looks both achingly fragile and impossibly strong. The sadness in her eyes is laced with tenderness—the kind you reserve for a memory you can’t bear to lose. She cr
