Chapter 2

Asher Wild

Waking up with a blinding headache is not the way I wanted things to start this morning. I wake up most mornings early to let my beast roam the forest surrounding my house. However, something about today feels different. He is more on edge, like something is about to happen. That might be why it feels like there are multiple dragons pounding away in my head.

Making my way to my bathroom, I make sure to drink a whole lot of water, to try and drown the assholes that have been stomping around in my brain. Brushing my teeth, I debate on whether I want to shower, or just put on extra deodorant and call it a day.

Stomping down the hall, I walk into the room Oliver calls home, and get instantly disappointed that he is not there. Usually we meet here to work out in the gym downstairs together, but it seems like he decided to do that alone. Closing his door, I walk down the stairs. And debate on what I want for breakfast this morning. Deciding on simple toast, I grab the bread out of the cupboard and pop it into the toaster.

When it beeps, I pull out the hot bread and place it on the plate. I sit at the grand table that I hand crafted when I was going through my woodworking era, and enjoy the lightly toasted meal. Getting dressed in the three piece suits I always end up complaining about, I make my way to the ten car garage, and grab the Chevy Impala that I built from the ground up. Hearing it roar I race out of the driveway and turn down the street. Pulling out the app tracer I have on Oliver, I see that he has entered a coffee shop that is right next to my favorite bar.

Racing all the way there listening to “Eye of the Tiger '', I pulled into the parking lot just in time to see a bright light illuminating a beautiful girl that is pulling another male behind her. I freeze,it has been a long time since I've seen another Mythical around here. Following them into the alley behind Flora’s, I see a bright white light shoot from the hands of the girl and start running over right as she passes out, and the guy she was with jumps from behind a dumpster and gets to her when I do.

“What happened?” I ask while breathing hard.

“She loses control sometimes. But what you saw has to be kept a secret, someone is after us and I can't let him kill my little sister." He looks like he just might kill someone from that declaration alone.

“Relax, mythicals stick together.” His whole body locks up and he gives me a look like I just killed his damn cat.

“What?”

“How do you know she is a Mythical?” he questions

“I saw the light as you were jumping out of the way. Also, Mythicals know when they are in the presence of one another, it is like a gut feeling. People these days call it that at least.”

“Damn, We didn’t know that.”

“Look, why don’t you come back with me? I’ll teach you both how to be Mythical.”Picking the pale girl up, I start walking to my car, glancing over my shoulder wondering if he is following me. Glancing around he shrugs his shoulders and starts to follow.

Placing her carefully into the front seat, I drove my Imala around the front and picked up Oliver who was standing against the door, it seemed like he was waiting for us to show up.

Jumping into the back seat next to the guys whose names I still don't know. I can tell that something is up. Attaching the mental connection between us, I talk to him while I effortlessly drive the car back to my house.

What is going on? And why did you leave so early this morning.” he looks at me and we make eye contact through the mirror.

“I was getting ready this morning when I noticed my best was getting nervous and I went out for a walk to calm him down when I appeared outside the coffee shop and ran into Paison who was walking out to go back to the library.”

Paison?” I asked while we were still making eye contact.

Yeah, the guy next to me, anyway, I instantly smelled another mythical character on him so I followed him and saw his sister in the library. He told her to get up and go to the coffee shop, so I went back over and waited for him. So, when he walked in I knew instantly that she was exactly like us, but it was weird, it's like she had no clue who I was." He finishes the story right as we pull into the garage of our three story home. Getting out of the car, I walk around to pick up the mystery girl, when I find the guy, Mason, already there trying to pick her up.

“Here, let me.” jumping back like I bit him, he clutches his sister to his chest and glares at me like I did something wrong.

“Look, I appreciate that you are willing to help us, but I think I should just take my sister back to the place we are staying and call it a night. She will be up soon, and I would rather not explain why we are in some random strangers house.” Looking like he might kill me, I sigh and ask Dalion to give me strength to deal with this kid that doesn’t know anything about us.

“Listen carefully to me, your sister is dangerous. Especially because she has no clue what she is doing. You said that you guys grew up differently, right? You have no clue what you are walking in on here. It is better if you just leave her here and go your separate way.” Talking slowly, I try to explain why she should be in my house, and ignore the look Oliver is giving me in my peripheral vision.

“Ummm, I’m sorry what? You want me to leave my younger sister here with you two?” He suddenly starts laughing like I just told the funniest joke in the world.

“Here with two people that we suddenly just met, wow that is the funniest thing I have heard all day, no, all my life.” Walking away from me like he is about to walk out of the garage, I block his path and try really hard not to shove him against the wall and kill him right where he stands.

Almost like knowing what I was about to do, Oliver steps between us and starts talking before I can say anything. “Listen, he wasn’t meaning it like that, he just meant that we know a lot more about this world than you and your sister combined. We can help, but we need you to trust us.” Backing him away from the exit, he corrals him toward the door, and calmly waves his hands toward the house to get him to go inside.

“No one is going to make you leave her here.” He says, giving me a sharp look like I'm the idiot in this situation.

The door opens on the other side of Paison, and Gia, my cousin, walks out to see what is going on.

“Um, hello.'' She says, looking down like she wants to hide from the people that are in front of her.

“And you are?” Paison, finally looking up to see who is talking, takes her hand, and introduces himself and the female in his arms. Looking at me, she takes the next step and invites him inside and shows him where the spare bedroom is. When Mason walks inside, she closes the door, and starts to talk while walking as far away from the door as she possibly can.

“Who are these people and why did I suddenly just let them inside my home?” She looks like she might cry with how accepting she just was with a couple of strangers. How did I get myself into this situation? Everyone around me either wants to cry, or kill me.. Bunch of moody people. I roll my eyes and tell her the dramatic story of how we ended up in this situation.

“What did you want me to do? Let the rats feast on them? As if, I hate rats, disgusting.” Shivering at the thought of them, Oliver laughs and makes a comment about how i'm a big, bad dragon afraid of little creatures. Shoving my elbow into his gut, I walk away from the annoying pair, and head into my room. Slammin the door, I sink into the bed in the middle of the space, and try to figure out how in the hell I got myself yet another impossible situation.
