Chapter 5: Luna Meets the Immortal

There wasn’t much of a crowd when Simon left the hospital, so he decided to walk. It’s a good thing Seth volunteered to check on Ella. He had already walked a half-mile, and it surprised him when a car ran into him and threw him a few meters back because of the impact. The front of the car that hit him was slightly smashed.

Luna didn’t dare move. When she sank into it, she quickly exited the car and immediately approached the man lying on the road who still seemed alive. Her face was a few inches away from him as she was about to check on him when he suddenly opened his eyes. To her shock, her right palm landed instantly on his face, which surprised the man.

“Whoa! You know, you are a brute.” Simon said, while caressing his face that the girl hit him. “You crashed on me and then slapped me,” he continued.

He got up from lying on the road, rubbing his cheek. Simon sat down and turned to the woman, kneeling on the road. From the look on her face, she must be daydreaming. And Simon rose, stretched out his hand, and helped her raise her, which the woman did. And when they were face-to-face, Simon beheld the face of the woman.

“Aren’t you the police officer who arrested me?” Simon raised an eyebrow.

She seemed to remember him, too. She stared away from his eyes and said, “I’m off work, so even if you don’t follow protocol, I won’t arrest you.”

The woman walked back to the car. “Hey!” Simon called out.

The woman stopped and looked at Simon. “Don’t you even want to make an apology? You bumped into me. Thank you so much, and I won’t get hurt.”, Simon complained.

The woman looked as if she was thinking. She looks at him, and he looks great. She turns to her car, which is flat.

“I’m sorry.” The woman said. “Are you okay? You want me to…”

“I’m fine. I want your apology.” He said it, sounding sincere.

“I’m sorry. I didn’t notice you crossing.” The woman said nothing.

Simon stared at the woman with a bit of worry. “You alright?”

The woman nodded a bit. Simon’s telephone rang, and he immediately pulled it out of his pocket. The woman got into the car and drove off.

“What’s the matter with that one, seemingly selfless?” Simon asked himself before answering the phone call.

Seth’s name was on Simon’s phone, as was the picture of him he played with. He put two strings on it and painted it black around the eye.

“Uncle, Ella is awake,” said Seth.

“Stop being a cop. You’ll harm yourself and put your life in danger,” said Simon.

And Seth started peeling the fruit while sitting on the other side of the bed, and Simon stood on the other side.

“Uncle, we already talked about this. You know that this is really what I always wanted,” said Ella.

“Why do you want men’s work? Are you a lesbian?” Simon asked, looking worried.

Seth laughed while Ella was upset. “Geez, uncle, I’m not a lesbian. What made you think so?”

“I tell you, quit as a police officer. Are you trying to catch death before I do?” said Simon in a raised voice.

“Uncle, I didn’t spend two years in service just to give up on something like that! I don’t want to!” she said, sounding annoyed.

“You are so obstinate. Do you want Samuel to die worrying about you?” said Simon. “Are you guys seriously going to die before I do?”

Ella frowned. “Who did it?” asked Simon, his arms folded.

“Enemy, who else?” Ella said.

“Did you face this man?” asked Simon.

“No. He’s a thief, you know. I didn’t know it had a gun.” said Ella.

Simon felt that the young lady was sullen, so he stopped asking questions.

“It’s difficult for me to watch you die. You don’t know what it feels like. If I could catch the bullets that struck you, I would. You’re still young, Ella. I want you to have an enjoyable life,” Simon exclaimed.

“Don’t you think, Uncle, I’ve never enjoyed being a cop?” said Ella. “You were a soldier, Uncle, so you know what might happen to me, but it’s me. This is the choice I made. I’m happy with my profession. And it is part of dying for our duty. Oh! Do you think life went up a couple of years ago because of your blood?” Ella said.

“Haist, you and Seth are siblings. You’re both pains in the ass.” Simon surrendered.

“We’re giving you a favor, uncle! You were going to die because you were so irritated with us. Don’t you think we’re in a win-win situation?” Seth said, feeling proud of himself.

“That boy is foolish,” Simon said. He took the pillow and slapped Seth.

Seth just laughed at what he did. Ella laughed at them. Simon shook his head.

Simon attended to more patients that day. They discharged Ella from the hospital that same day. Samuel went with Ella on the way home while Seth left. For some reason, no one knows.

As Seth sat on the couch, he was staring at Clara, who was also busy staring at Simon while he signed the papers.

“Uncle…” he called, still staring at Clara.

Simon glanced at him. “Why?”

“Aren’t you attracted to your secretary, uncle?” Seth asked.

“Why did you ask?” asked Simon, not even looking at Seth.

Seth sat in one corner of the table. “Well, it seems she likes you.”

Simon looked at Clara from outside his office. Only then did he notice the curtain had split apart. Clara looked away when she saw him looking.

“Well, I don’t like her,” said Simon. “She’s too feminine. The woman who can attract my attention is resilient and courageous. Same as your sister, Ella. When a woman is like that, she is definitively stable in this life.”

Simon took another look at what was being done. “Why are you still here? You should have come with your father. He needs you?” Simon asked.

Staring at Seth, he continued. “You’re bored and here to annoy me, right?”

Seth laughed. “How’d you guess that?! Haha! Don’t worry. That’s not my main reason.”

“Give me a break, Seth. Today was too much stress for me,” Simon says.

Seth set eyes on his uncle for a few minutes before asking again.

“Uncle, I have a question for you,” Seth said to change the mood of the conversation.

“What?” asked Simon, paying no attention to Seth.

“Aren’t you five centuries old?” said Seth.

“544 years.” Simon corrected.

“Have you ever had any girlfriends?” Seth asked.

“None,” Simon said.

“Seriously?” Seth sounded more surprised.

“Like nothing? Nothing at all? Never?” Seth asked.

Simon turned to Seth. “Never, no, not at all. Is there something wrong with that?”

Seth’s eyes became bigger. “Uncle, have you ever experienced sex?”

“Where did you hear that?” Simon’s eyebrows.

“It was only my thought, uncle. In the 500 years of your existence, you have had no experience,” said Seth. “You are still a v-rgin?”

“You’re so silly!” Simon said this and hit Seth’s head. All singles are inexperienced. Hang on, are you?”

“Uncle, I’m curious,” Seth said proudly.

“To whom?” replied Simon with a frown.

“To my girlfriend,” said Seth.

“Have you got a girl? With your behavior?” said Simon, in shock.

Seth scratches his neck. “Uncle, the old style is not cool with today’s generation. Women are most drawn to a bad-boy appearance.”

“Seriously? They like street thugs?” asked Simon. “Women’s standard for finding a sensible man has gone down.”

Seth smiled naughtily. “Do you want to give it a shot, Uncle?”

“Ahhh!” screamed Ella.

She immediately grasped the man’s hand before her and threw it quickly onto the cement. She even put her knee behind it while twisting both hands behind his back. He struggled to get out of her grip.

“It’s me, Ella,” said Simon.

“Who are you? How did you find your way in?” Ella asked.

It was midnight when Ella thought about having cold water in the fridge. When she saw a relaxed guy enter the living room, he wore a t-shirt and had a tattoo on his hand. He’s also got earrings in his ear.

“Ella, what happened?” Samuel asked. “You scream like someone has entered the house.”

“Dad, there’s a burglar in the house,” said Ella.

“What?” Samuel asked, shocked.

Samuel instantly switched on the light. And the eyes of Samuel and Ella widened as they recognized him.

“Simon?” Uncle?” Samuel and Ella spoke at the same time.

“Oh, what happened here?” said Seth. “Ella, what are you doing with Uncle?”
