Eleni's Pov

I was so scared my knees nearly gave way. Handsome had been caught and he’d told them my role in his escape, I panicked. There would be no mercy for me.

Calm down, maybe you can talk you way out of this. I thought.

“I am really busy right now.” I told the goon, forcing myself to calm down.

“He said now!”

“Okay, okay. Let’s go.” He led the way to the office. “Are you okay? You looked really pissed, I hope you aren’t still mad at me because I forgot to get you the glass of water.” I said referring to an incident that had happened earlier.

“No. Sorry I yelled at you. I’m just pissed because we botched a job and Alexios has been yelling at us.”

“What job?” I asked cautiously.

“Some guy we were supposed to take care of but the asshole got away, and now Alexios won’t shut up about it. It’s partly his fault for not giving us a head up quick enough.” He said bitterly.

I felt my pounding heart slowing down. Handsome had got away. So why was Alexios sending for me? Before I could guess an answer ww were knocking on his door.

“Get inside!”He roared.

We entered to see him pacing his office, red-faced and wild-eyed with anger. I hoped I won’t be on the receiving end of his anger. I could see some goons standing nervously in a corner.

“Where are the others?” Alexios fumed looking at the goon who’d brought me. “Didn't I tell you I want everyone working the bar shift here, you incompetent bastard! Go and bring them now!”

The guard ran out while we waited and watched Alexios pacing.

The guard came back with the bartender, the manager, and the eight waiters who worked with me.

“Which of you traitorous bitches helped that motherfucker escape?” He yelled. “Confess now and you will die quickly. If I have to force it out of you I’ll cause you so much pain you’ll wish you’d never been born!”

We all stared at him in fear and confusion. Apart from me, noone else knew what he was talking about.

“Don’t play dumb you imbeciles! You know I'm talking about the Italian asshole that came in this evening all dressed in black. He escaped through the broken wine store window and left his clothes behind. He sure as hell didn’t leave naked! And he couldn’t have know about the window! So for the last time, who betrayed me!”

We shook our heads, too afraid to speak.

“Boss, I barely spoke to the guy except telling him the way to the bathroom, and I didn’t even know the window was broken.” Rich said finally.

“Me neither boss.” The rest of us chorused.

And that was the truth. They won’t have known about the window. I knew because I had overhead Christos telling Alexios he had broken it accidentally and had asked him to get it fixed. Careless Alexios hadn’t, and he knew he’d be in deep trouble when Christos found out.

“He had help! I know it! I want all the lockers of the men searched! See if any clothes are missing. Now!”

Again my heart pounded. The waiter whoes clothes I stole would get into trouble if it was discover. Thankfully one of the goons, who didn’t want the stress of searching people’s lockers, spoke up.

“Boss all the staff lock their lockers so that can’t be it. I’m thinking this guy may have sensed we were on to him and made a call to someone on the outside to bring him some clothes. He may have been here before, which is how he knew about the window Maybe the person threw the clothes through there.” He explained.

It made sense but Alexios was still pissed. He began cursing and the foul words he used shocked and embarrassed me.

“He was on to you because you are idiots!" He yelled finally. "Get out! All of you!”

We began hurrying out.

“Leni! Wrap up whatever you are doing. I want you here by midnight!” He ordered as I headed out.

An alarm bell went off in my head. “Yes sir.” I said reluctantly.

I went back to work filled with worry. Why did he want to see me? I had a feeling it wasn’t going to be a pleasant meeting. For weeks now he had been making advances to me and I had managed to avoid him, now something told me I would have to confront him tonight.

I wished I could run away. For a minute I envied Handsome. He had escaped but I was stuck here. All I wanted was to run far away and never come back. But I couldn’t, no thanks to my parents. I thought bitterly.

Other people’s parents protected them, mine had literally sold me into slavery.

I remembered the day my life had fallen apart. I had come home that evening with a purse full of money. I had again been contracted to bake at another birthday party and it had been a success.

“If I keep this up, I will be able to start my own bakery before the new year.” I smiled.

My smile died the minute I stepped foot in my living room. Mom and Dad were there. The despaired look on their faces set my heart racing.

“Mom! Dad! Has something happened to Nick?” I asked fearing my little brother was seriously ill again.

“No. Worse." Mom said in disgust and anger. "Your hopeless father is in big trouble. He has stolen Makris money and now we are all dead!”

Eleni stared at the gun open mouthed. Once again a weapon was in her face. That seemed to be a common occurrence ever since she had met the Romano’s. “You are coming with me!” The man snapped. Panicking her eyes quickly scanned the room, looking for a weapon she could use to defend herself, but there wasn’t anything. “Now!” He snapped. “Please let me go. I will leave town and not come back.” She said frantically. “Move!” He barked shoving her towards the back door. The cold air hit her as she stepped outside, and she shivered from the cold and fear. She didn’t know where the man was taking her, but guessed wherever it was Mia would be waiting. She looked at the guard house, there was no sign of the guards. Where were they now she needed them? As they walked further away from the house she looked round hoping to find a weapon. Her eyes caught a large log of wood on the ground. “Who are you working for?” She asked trying to distract him. “Be quiet and move!” She stumbl

Leonardo’s heart nearly stopped. The footsteps were getting closer. Was it a maid? Guard? Or had Niccolo come home unexpectedly? Whoever it was they couldn’t find him here. But the information he needed was almost up, of he shut it down he won't lose everything. He made a decision. He shut the laptop and looked round for a place to hide. Behind the bookcase at the end of the room was perfect. He slid behind it just as the door opened. He heard the person come in, walk around then stop. From his position he couldn’t see who it was, and didn't dare peek. The sounds stopped. Everything was quiet for a long time, then the footsteps sounded again and he heard the door opened and close. He let out a sigh of relief as he came out his hiding place. He needed to hurry up and get the hell out of this place. He walked to the computer and stopped suddenly. It was open and the browsing history had been wiped out. Fuck! * Eleni’s again looked out of the cabin windows. No sign of any guard. Sh

  • My Protector   The Search Is On

Helena wasn’t surprised to see Julia at her house the next afternoon, but she was surprised by how angry she looked. “Helena what have you done?” Julia demanded.. “I was helping you solve our problem,.” Helena said calmly. “I had already solved it! The girl was leaving with the money I gave her. Then you had to ruin everything.” “I’m sorry. It was the fools I sent. They messed up.” “What was the point of having her kidnapped?” Julia demanded. “To make sure she was gone for good.” “Well she isn’t! And now Niccolo knows what you’ve done. He is angrier than ever with Mia. You have ruined everything.” “And I will fix it. We will try again.” “How? I don’t even know where she is.” “What do you mean? I thought you said she didn’t leave.” “She didn’t. Niccolo rescued her, now he is hiding her somewhere and I don’t know where.” “Then find her. Or make Nick forget her.” “I am trying.” “Try harder! Nick must get back with Mia, and soon!” “He would never have broken

  • My Protector   Hidden Feelings

Julia paced the living room anxiously, occasionally glancing at the wall clock. Alora and Jane had been gone for nearly two hours and she didn’t know if Jane had managed to escape or not. She had tried calling Alora to indirectly find out what was going on, but she wasn’t picking up. Jane must have escaped, she told herself. She has enough money and Alora is careless so it would be easy for her to slip away, especially since no guards are with them. But what if she hasn't? How would she explain it to Helena? Then she heard Alora's car pull into the driveway, and held her breadth as Alora rushed into the living room. “Aunt Julia you are here? Where is Nick?” She asked breathlessly. “At work of course. What is it?” “No he isn’t there. I’m just coming from his office. I need to know where he is!” “Calm down, what is it that’s so important?” “Jane is missing! I think she has been kidnapped! We have to find her.” Julia let out a quiet sigh of relief. So the stupid girl d

  • My Protector   Harsh Punishment

“Please let me go!I didn’t escape I’m with Alora!” I tried to explain. “Shut up!” One growled. I stopped struggling. I knew Nick must have told them to take me back to the mansion. The jerk couldn’t even wait for me to come back, he had to kidnap me. I thought furiously. Then one of men said, “Call miss Conti. Tell her we have the girl and are on our way.” Eleni froze. Mia! Mia was the one who had kidnapped her? This wasn’t good. She began to struggle desperately. “Stay still!” The man yelled holding her tightly. She began wishing she had listened to Nick and stayed at home, but how was she to know Mia would go this far. Then she heard a load bang that shook the whole car. It skidded off the road and crashed on to the sidewalk. She moaned softly. Now what? She thought as the door opened and she was pulled out. She saw another car had run into theirs and badly damaged it. Niccolo got out of the car and ran towards her, while his men pulled her kidnappers from the wrecke

  • My Protector   Kidnapped

Eleni's Pov Don’t bother getting up.” Julia snapped sitting beside me. “I didn’t know you were around.” I stammered nervously, guessing she was here for trouble. Julia looked at me coldly. “Everything was going well in this house until you came here. Niccolo and Mia were in love and ready to get married, now he hates her and it’s all your fault!" “I’m sorry I never meant to cause trouble. I just came here to get a job. I never wanted any of this, it was all Nick’s idea.” “That’s a lie!” “It’s true. I swear. I would have left long ago but he won’t let me.” “You expect me to believe Nick is keeping you here?” She asked scornfully. “He is. Honestly-“ “Prove it then.” I looked confused. “How?” I asked, wondering what drama I was about to be dragged into now. Julia pulled out an envelope from her pocket and threw it at me “This is a check for a million dollars. If you really want to leave then take it. Leave town and leave my family alone.” “The guard won’t let me-“
