Eleni's Pov

I was so shocked I couldn’t even cry. How could my mom do this to me? I knew she didn’t really like me and I never knew why. Despite doing everything to be a good daughter to her, we had never been close. It seems even the sight of me annoyed her, but I’d never have believed she would try to kill me.

Because dead is what I would be if the Makris brothers didn’t get their money in thirty minutes time. I looked under the mattress again. She really had taken my money and left with her favorite child, Nick. I was sure she had tricked him into leaving. Nick loved me too much to agree to any wicked plan against me.

She had probably lied to him that I had agreed with her that leaving was best and would join them later. When I don’t show up and he realizes what Mom has done he would be devastated. Just like I was devastated now. How the hell was I going to get out of this mess?

My first thought was to run away, but with just a few dollars in my purse how far was I going to run before the brothers caught me. I shuddered thinking what they would do to me. No, the only answer was to face them and tell the truth, maybe I would work out a way to pay back what my dad owed. They may be merciful if they saw how sincere I was. It was a choice of the devil and the deep blue sea, and I choose to swim. I left the house and began walking to their club. I had walked a couple of feet when a car pulled up besides me, and a man I recognized as one of the men who had come with Alexios stepped out.

“The boss is waiting.” He said harshly.

“I am on my way to see him.” I said trembling as I got into the car with him. On the way it occurred to me that the man had been watching the house, probably so I won’t run away. I was happy I hadn’t, but also confused. Why hadn’t he seen my mom leave? I was still thinking about it when we arrived. I was trembling as I walked to Alexios’ office, but to my relief he wasn’t there. Instead it was a slightly older, taller, kinder looking man.

“I'm Christos, my brother Alex says you have our money.” He said.

Without wasting time I told him everything then waited for his decision.

“I am sorry this happened to you.” He said finally. “And because you didn’t try to run away I’ll be merciful. I’ll give you a chance to work for me and pay off your debts. You can either work as a stripper in our strip club every night, or a waitress in our bar at nights and a cashier in our supermarket by day. I will suggest the strip club, you will make money faster.”

I hated the idea of being a stripper so I choose the second job.

“You will live in the staff quarters so we can keep an eye on you.” He said.

I agreed. I couldn’t afford the rent in our place anyway. I was now officially their slave and two months later here I was working two jobs, which meant I didn’t have time for my baking business, so it collapsed. It also meant I got a lot of unwanted attention from men. The first day one of them, Glykos, grabbed my breast and I slapped him in anger.

“How dare you hit me you bitch!” He yelled grabbing my arm.

Luckily Christos was nearby and intervened. When he heard when happened he was pissed.

“You know the rules Glykos, you don’t touch the girls without consent!” He yelled.

Glykos tried to apologize but Christos ordered his men to teach him a lesson. They beat him up and broke his arm, after that the other men kept their hands to themselves. But not Alexios. He kept flirting with me and won’t take no for an answer. Now as I knocked on his door at midnight I wondered what he was going to try now.

“Come in.”

I walked in carefully. He was sitting on his sofa and his eyes lit up as I came in, then darkened when he saw I’d changed from my skimpy uniform into my usual t-shirt and jeans, but he didn’t say anything. I looked around and saw he was alone. Why had he sent his bodyguard away? I thought anxiously.

“Come and sit down and have a drink. I want to talk to you.” He said patting the seat besides him.

I obeyed reluctantly, sitting away from him.

“Yo don’t have to be scared Leni,” he said handing me a drink and moving closer. “I will get straight to the point. I like you and want you to be my girl, in exchange I’ll convince Chris to forget your debts.”

I stared at him, shocked by his audacity. I’d die working before I dated this jerk.

“Thank you sir but don’t worry. I promised to work off my debt and I will.” I said carefully.

He frowned, then pulled me closer and tried to kiss me. I pushed him away in disgust and stood up.

“Please sir I am not interested.” I said firmly.

Before I realized what was happening, he had his hands around my throat and was squeezing hard.

Blood pounded in my ears and my tongue protruded.

“No one says no to me you whore!” He fumed.

I struggled to loosen his grip as I realized he was trying to kill me, then I remembered a self-defense technique my dad had taught me years ago. I rammed my head with all my force into his face. He screamed in pain and let me go. I jumped back, coughing and gasping for air.

“You bitch!” He yelled. Blood was dripping from his nose and his face was contorted in murderous fury as he rushed towards me. I knew without a doubt he would kill me if he got his hands on me. In desperation I picked up a footstool nearby and brought it down on his head.

He crumpled to the floor. I leaned against the wall trembling from fear and adrenaline, wondering what Christos would do when he heard I’d knocked out his brother. Then I froze in horror. Alexios wasn’t moving. Still holding the stool I went closer to him.

“Are you okay?” I asked hoarsely.

Then I saw the blood trickling from his head and panic gripped me. He was dead and I had killed him!

Eleni stared at the gun open mouthed. Once again a weapon was in her face. That seemed to be a common occurrence ever since she had met the Romano’s. “You are coming with me!” The man snapped. Panicking her eyes quickly scanned the room, looking for a weapon she could use to defend herself, but there wasn’t anything. “Now!” He snapped. “Please let me go. I will leave town and not come back.” She said frantically. “Move!” He barked shoving her towards the back door. The cold air hit her as she stepped outside, and she shivered from the cold and fear. She didn’t know where the man was taking her, but guessed wherever it was Mia would be waiting. She looked at the guard house, there was no sign of the guards. Where were they now she needed them? As they walked further away from the house she looked round hoping to find a weapon. Her eyes caught a large log of wood on the ground. “Who are you working for?” She asked trying to distract him. “Be quiet and move!” She stumbl

Leonardo’s heart nearly stopped. The footsteps were getting closer. Was it a maid? Guard? Or had Niccolo come home unexpectedly? Whoever it was they couldn’t find him here. But the information he needed was almost up, of he shut it down he won't lose everything. He made a decision. He shut the laptop and looked round for a place to hide. Behind the bookcase at the end of the room was perfect. He slid behind it just as the door opened. He heard the person come in, walk around then stop. From his position he couldn’t see who it was, and didn't dare peek. The sounds stopped. Everything was quiet for a long time, then the footsteps sounded again and he heard the door opened and close. He let out a sigh of relief as he came out his hiding place. He needed to hurry up and get the hell out of this place. He walked to the computer and stopped suddenly. It was open and the browsing history had been wiped out. Fuck! * Eleni’s again looked out of the cabin windows. No sign of any guard. Sh

Helena wasn’t surprised to see Julia at her house the next afternoon, but she was surprised by how angry she looked. “Helena what have you done?” Julia demanded.. “I was helping you solve our problem,.” Helena said calmly. “I had already solved it! The girl was leaving with the money I gave her. Then you had to ruin everything.” “I’m sorry. It was the fools I sent. They messed up.” “What was the point of having her kidnapped?” Julia demanded. “To make sure she was gone for good.” “Well she isn’t! And now Niccolo knows what you’ve done. He is angrier than ever with Mia. You have ruined everything.” “And I will fix it. We will try again.” “How? I don’t even know where she is.” “What do you mean? I thought you said she didn’t leave.” “She didn’t. Niccolo rescued her, now he is hiding her somewhere and I don’t know where.” “Then find her. Or make Nick forget her.” “I am trying.” “Try harder! Nick must get back with Mia, and soon!” “He would never have broken

  • My Protector   Hidden Feelings

Julia paced the living room anxiously, occasionally glancing at the wall clock. Alora and Jane had been gone for nearly two hours and she didn’t know if Jane had managed to escape or not. She had tried calling Alora to indirectly find out what was going on, but she wasn’t picking up. Jane must have escaped, she told herself. She has enough money and Alora is careless so it would be easy for her to slip away, especially since no guards are with them. But what if she hasn't? How would she explain it to Helena? Then she heard Alora's car pull into the driveway, and held her breadth as Alora rushed into the living room. “Aunt Julia you are here? Where is Nick?” She asked breathlessly. “At work of course. What is it?” “No he isn’t there. I’m just coming from his office. I need to know where he is!” “Calm down, what is it that’s so important?” “Jane is missing! I think she has been kidnapped! We have to find her.” Julia let out a quiet sigh of relief. So the stupid girl d

“Please let me go!I didn’t escape I’m with Alora!” I tried to explain. “Shut up!” One growled. I stopped struggling. I knew Nick must have told them to take me back to the mansion. The jerk couldn’t even wait for me to come back, he had to kidnap me. I thought furiously. Then one of men said, “Call miss Conti. Tell her we have the girl and are on our way.” Eleni froze. Mia! Mia was the one who had kidnapped her? This wasn’t good. She began to struggle desperately. “Stay still!” The man yelled holding her tightly. She began wishing she had listened to Nick and stayed at home, but how was she to know Mia would go this far. Then she heard a load bang that shook the whole car. It skidded off the road and crashed on to the sidewalk. She moaned softly. Now what? She thought as the door opened and she was pulled out. She saw another car had run into theirs and badly damaged it. Niccolo got out of the car and ran towards her, while his men pulled her kidnappers from the wrecke

Eleni's Pov Don’t bother getting up.” Julia snapped sitting beside me. “I didn’t know you were around.” I stammered nervously, guessing she was here for trouble. Julia looked at me coldly. “Everything was going well in this house until you came here. Niccolo and Mia were in love and ready to get married, now he hates her and it’s all your fault!" “I’m sorry I never meant to cause trouble. I just came here to get a job. I never wanted any of this, it was all Nick’s idea.” “That’s a lie!” “It’s true. I swear. I would have left long ago but he won’t let me.” “You expect me to believe Nick is keeping you here?” She asked scornfully. “He is. Honestly-“ “Prove it then.” I looked confused. “How?” I asked, wondering what drama I was about to be dragged into now. Julia pulled out an envelope from her pocket and threw it at me “This is a check for a million dollars. If you really want to leave then take it. Leave town and leave my family alone.” “The guard won’t let me-“
