Big Mistake?

He jumped out of his car, went over to the passenger’s side, and flung the door open. He then ran over to her and gently grabbed her on both shoulders.

“Please leave me alone,” she strained.

“Shut up, or else I will drop you so hard you wouldn’t be able to get up again.” He threatened.

The threat successfully got her to seal her lips. She allowed him to help her into the passenger’s side of the car, strapped her in, entered from his side, and drove off.

He aimed to take her to the hospital, get her looked at, and then leave with a free conscience because deep down, he felt he was the reason for all the bruises and limping.

“Stop!!! Please stop here!” She screamed as if in severe pain.

“What?!”

Jacob was actually worried and a bit scared. He didn’t know the extent of this lady’s wounds, and wouldn’t want to associate himself if her condition deteriorated.

As much as he wanted to hit the pedals and speed off, he needed to respect the lady’s wishes this time. He has tried his best to help her but she was being difficult.

As soon as he stopped, she unclipped the seatbelt, opened the car door, and slipped off.

He stared at her in incredulity. He was finding it hard not to believe that she was crazy. She might speak well and look sane but her actions were way on the wild side.

He jumped down from the car, quickly went around the car to meet her wincing in pain. That was when two pairs of hands suddenly grabbed him on both sides.

“What the…” he began, looking both sides at the two hefty men that held him.

Both men had worn-out clothes with stitched-up patches on different places. One of them had overgrown bushy hairs on his hair and face, while the other’s face looked like a desert. Not even a single strand could be found on his head or face. The things they had in common were their hugeness and disheveled appearances.

“What were you planning on doing to the lady?” the hairy one on his left boomed dangerously. His teeth were darkened with what seemed like many years of tobacco intake, and his breath stunk of smoke and decayed food.

“He was trying to kidnap our Rebecca, don’t you see?” the bald one stated.

“Unhand me immediately,” Jacob said in a low threatening voice.

“You got the nerve to talk after what we caught you doing?!” the hairy guy bellowed, raising his hand, about to strike Jacob.

“Stop James! He wasn’t trying to hurt me. Leave him, John.” Rebecca yelled weakly.

The hefty dudes known as James and John stared at each other and then at Rebecca.

“But we saw him trying to grab you,” John voiced, fuming angrily.

“He wasn’t. He was trying to help me. Please let him go, I just want to see my siblings. I’m tired, hungry and in lots of pain guys, I don’t want to have to deal with you too.” She said weakly.

James and John looked at themselves again, before leaving Jacob, who forcefully dragged his arms away.

Jacob turned and stared daringly at both men who on realizing his dare stance advanced to continue what they’d begun.

“James! John! Stop already! This is not the time for this, please!” Rebecca pleaded. The two men retreated.

Jacob didn’t even spare Rebecca another glance. He went around his car, entered, and sped off.

On his way, he kept hitting his steering wheels, cursing at himself. He was angry for allowing himself to feel pity for that lady. He should have just left her to her fate right there on the sidewalk, but no, his stupid conscience wouldn’t allow him. Now, some dirty, ragged men with their smelly bodies dared to harass him.

‘Well, lesson learned…again!
