Juliette

Two weeks to Nov. 15th

It's my stepdad's birthday.

One of the days I'd definitely not been looking forward to.

No offense, but I wasn't close to him or my stepsister; I had only maintained acquaintance with them because he's the man my mother married.

Something I wasn't sure was the right decision.

I shook that thought out of my head as I tied my hair up into a messy bun, and I slipped a gold necklace around my neck before matching it with some gold earrings.

"Hmm, good." I said as I looked at myself in the mirror, and I smiled.

The gold went well with the red dress, and the red dress would go well with the black suit I had brought out for James to wear.

It wasn't a large event, but I'm sure my stepdad had invited the whole country, if not some paparazzi too.

He liked the spotlight, so also Vanessa, my stepsister.

I slipped on my heels and carried my bag, taking the steps one by one to the living room, and I did a double take when I saw my husband in a blue suit.

Well, he wasn't wearing the jacket, but he had the pants on.

Blue pants.

"What's wrong? We agreed to match?"

My black heels and bag with his suit and some red details on his shirt with my dress.

He shrugged and headed for the door, not even bothering to look up. "I changed my mind at the last minute. Are you ready?"

He glanced up at me when he got to the door and waited, and I decided to just let it go.

He must still be angry or sulking over something I did.

I wondered what though.

The lipstick on his shirt incident?

He already said it was his secretary who collided with him, and I didn't argue, so what was wrong with him now?

He started the car and drove out of our compound, not saying a word till we got to the venue, and I intertwined my arm with his when we got to the entrance.

"There's no need for that."

I tightened my arm around his before he could remove it.

We walked in and got led to the party hall for the event.

It was already bubbling.

Celebrities and important people drinking and talking as some music played from the mini-stage, and I paused in my steps when I saw her.

Stunning maxi dress.

Slits, a v-neckline, thin straps—everything that could make a dress pretty, including its very blue color.

It was so blue, you would have thought I was the imposter with how similar it was to my husband's pants.

It looked like they were matching.

"Jules." She came forward to greet me, kissing me lightly on both cheeks, and I smiled... Quite tightly.

"Vanessa. Been a long time."

"I know, right?"

She moved back and smiled at James, "Oh my God, we're matching."

I know, right?

She shook his hand lightly and held onto it as she led us to my stepdad.

"William. Happy birthday." I said as I greeted him with a kiss on both cheeks, and my husband did the same, smiling and alive.

They were actually quite acquainted; his family, my stepdad, and the business—they were all connected.

But I wasn't so sure about Vanessa, though.

From what I know, they don't really know each other well, so why was she smiling and striking up a conversation with him like they were friends?

I grabbed a drink from a waitress nearby and tried to include myself in the conversation.

"I know, right? He comes home late, but he tries his best to be there for us still."

"Right? Where are your... children?" She asked after taking a sip of her drink.

"With my friend. She's helping me babysit them."

"Oh, that's nice of her. I must say, motherhood really looks good on you, though. I mean, you look all fat and pretty now."

Okay, Vanessa and her backhanded compliments.

"Aw, thanks. My husband tells me that most of the time. It’s actually nice to have someone who appreciates the real me."

"Hmm." She smiled, "Excuse me then." She said as she walked past us to another guest, and I took a sip of my drink.

"I'm coming, honey; I need to use the restroom."

James said a minute later as he removed my arm from his, and I watched him head out of the hall to wherever the restroom was.

Well, let's get another drink.

"Juliette, my God, it's been long since I saw you." A tall man about the same age as my stepdad said as he came closer to where I stood, and I smiled at him.

"Mr. Parker, nice to see you again."

He placed a kiss lightly on the back of my palm and smiled back.

"You're looking really good."

"Thank you. You too."

"I must say I miss having you around at the company. You used to give such good advice."

"I'll take a wild guess that my husband is doing even better."

"He's good, but not you."

I smiled, "Come on, he has been at it for four years now; he must be better."

"Which brings me to the question: Are you ever planning to return as the CEO?"

CEO of Winchester Properties, the company my mum left me.

I would love to, but as James had advised when I got pregnant with our twins, "I think I'll just focus on family for now. It's better for the children."

"Hmm, shame, but it's okay. Great decision even."

I nodded and smiled, "Thank you."

"See you around then," he said as he left, and I took a sip of my drink again.

James...

Shouldn't he be back now?

I glanced around the hall to see if I could find him, but I didn't.

"Okay, this way, everyone." An organizer directed everyone to another hall where a seating arrangement had been made, and I glanced around for James again.

Still nowhere to be found.

Didn't he mention just wanting to use the restroom?

Well, he'll find me at my table.

He did find me about an hour later, blank-faced, and I glanced at Vanessa, who had walked in at the same time as him.

I hadn't even realized that she wasn't in the room.

  • My Revenge Game    Author's note.

Good day my lovely readers, I know it has been a long time since I updated this book and I want to say sorry for that. When I started this book, I had a vision for how I wanted the story to start till the way it was going to end, but along the way, I diverted, which led to me having writer's block and rewriting and rewriting a whole lot of the chapters again and again. I thought I could make it work but it has been proving difficult so I wanted to ask for your patience and understanding till I'm able to trace back my steps and rewrite most of the chapters again. It might take a lot of time, but hopefully, soon, I'll be done with the edit and release more chapters. Thank you and sorry once again. Ruthiana.

DominicThe business plan was good, exceptionally good, to the extent that I actually wondered how James had convinced her to be a housewife."Dom." I picked up the papers she had proposed to me again and glanced at Luke, who walked into the study."How was it? What did she say?"I shrugged and handed him the papers. He looked through it."What is this?""A proposal. She wants me to invest in her company.""She does?""Yes. A real estate company with 10% returns for me. I think she's planning to square off with her—with James. You know, even the playground.""That's actually quite smart."I nodded. "And—"RingRing.Huh?We both turned surprised when the doorbell at the front door rang, indicating that someone was around, and I turned back to glance at Luke."Does anyone else know about this place?""No, except Miss Winchester and her friend who just left.""Shit. You don't think he knows about this place, do you?""Who? James?"I nodded, already placing the documents in a safe drawer

Juliette."Summer?""Summer..." I called quietly as I stepped into the house, probably an hour later. I couldn't tell the time since I had no means of checking it, coupled with the fact that it was dark."Sum—" I had no time to prepare myself in the dark before a body was attacking mine in a hug."Jules. I'm sorry. I didn't mean to scare you or make you wary of me. I just thought...".I wrapped my arms around her and let myself settle into the hug. It was familiar, warm, and reassuring.God, I still couldn't believe I had accused her."No, I'm the one who is sorry. I wasn't thinking and had just been spiraling right before you came, so it kind of just overflowed."She pulled back in the still dark living room to peer at my face before pulling me into another tight hug."Oh! Summer...""I can't lose you. You can't lose you. The bad bitch we knew before that asshole came along. You can't lose that.""And I won't." She smiled when she pulled back again, and I noticed the streak of tear

  • My Revenge Game    Chapter 22

Juliette"Ugh!"I threw the most recent paper I had cut out from the note beside me on the floor alongside the other ruffled papers I had tried to work on.God.I couldn't just think of something.Going public? Sure, that would probably cause a lot of damage and bring up a lot of questions he wouldn't want surfacing, but it could also go sideways real quick. I had to think of my kids, the plot of my revenge, and how deeply I wanted it to hurt—and I wanted it to hurt really badly.I had to think of the best way to hurt them. But to do that, I needed to know why he had done it. Why he had pretended for years...*"Your marriage was planned, meeting him was planned, everything was planned, even the amount of children you're meant to have. All of that was planned."*I mean, if it had been planned, why did he...I sucked in a breath and stood up to go get a bottle of wine from the cabinet before returning to the living room, where I gulped down half of its contents. I shouldn't be thinki

Dominic"What were you thinking?! Kidnapping the girls and bringing them here!""I was not the—oh." I shut my mouth and watched as my best friend's face—I wasn't even sure what relationship we had—the guy in black or Blade. We'll go with that for now."He was the one who said I should bring her to him if she's still alive.""I didn't—""Maybe, but not without her permission, and then you just had to add her friend!""Bro." I took a deep breath, watching as Blade stood up from the couch and advanced on Luke. At first he was intimidated, but then I saw the stubbornness in his eyes that was so familiar. I think Blade saw it too because he sighed and moved past him to the mini bar."Do you really think she would have been like, Oh, right, I remember you. You're the guy that almost assassinated me back at the "fake mental facility" where my husband and my stepsister confined me to because they wanted to take over my company and follow me?""That's not—""And for the friend, she was going t
