RIVER

Javier had insisted on my going with the cab to avoid the awkwardness that would linger if we stayed together. I agree and go in the cab. When I open the door, Taylor is standing in the kitchen, gulping down a bottle of juice. His eyes drop on me and make me a bit uncomfortable with his gaze.

I step in and drop, standing still as if I were waiting for his approval to go into the room.

"You are early," he said after he took the bottle from his mouth.

"I took a cab."

"I thought you were taking the bus."

"Yes, I was, but I had to take a cab instead," I reply as if I were wishing he would ask me more.

"You seem really close with Javier. I thought you both just met." I could barely see the emotion behind his question as he now evaded my eyes by turning to throw the empty bottle into the trash bin.

"Let me guess, you are going to tell me why he is a bad choice and why I should stay away from him?" I do not know why I said that when I obviously did not mean it. He turned to me and clas

  • My Roommate is a Boy   BETWEEN LINES

RIVER"Hi River." I turn around to the sound of the voice calling my name. Javier stood there almost as if he were waiting for me."Javier?" I called out because I was shocked to see him around my department since his department was all the way across campus. "What are you doing here?" I manage to ask.I can feel the girls staring and wondering what was going on. "To see you," Javier said, and the girls were losing their minds. They managed to keep a straight face, but I could tell that they were simmering with questions."Me?" I ask, hoping I had misheard or he was going to change his mind and I would not have to explain myself to them, but he nods at my question and takes a step forward."Aren't you going to introduce us to your friend?" Elise asked as he whispered into my ear, not taking her eyes off Javier's face."My bad," I said as I licked my lips in regret. Why did he have to show up here now? "Javier, these are my friends Lana and Elsie." I point to them, and they shake hand

  • My Roommate is a Boy   THE TICKET LIE

RIVEREven when I had left Javier and Matt to go to school, my mind still echoed with Matt's statement. 'Javier is a good guy.' What did he mean by that? Had I misread the relationship between them? I thought they were a couple. Was I wrong? Did Javier like me? It couldn't be; if he liked me, then why would he let Matt tag along as a third wheel? Why was Matt trying to paint him as good to me? I caught myself spiralling for no reason. Why on earth was I letting boys occupy my mind? They weren't the reason I came to the school, so why should I bother myself about it? My plan was to do good and then graduate as the best in the field, and playing around with Javier, Taylor, or Matt was not what I needed."I need to get my life back on track," I murmur out loud, which made both girls sitting at the table with me look at me as though I were crazy."What was that?" Lana asked almost immediately."Nothing," I say, wondering how I had gotten so uncontrollable that I had allowed my thoughts t

  • My Roommate is a Boy   CLAWS OUT

RIVERJavier and Matt are a fun duo, I had to admit it, even though I did not really like to think that people were fun. They gave me a tour in such a way that it felt almost too comedic."Oh my goodness, remember when we first met?" Matt exclaimed as he pointed to the coffee shop that we passed."Oh goodness!" Javier said mockingly, mirroring his tone. "Don't tell me you are going to tell that embarrassing story to River," he added now in a serious and normal tone."Why shouldn't I? How can I pass by the opportunity to tell the story?" He asked and then turned to me, tugging on my arm gently. "This guy comes into the city without any plans, and I catch him almost crying on his first day in that coffee shop.""You did know each other before now?" I ask the question and leave my lisp before I can even think of it."Oh no, we only met each other here with him, a boy who was just about to hit puberty and had tears in his eyes," Matt said and let out a laugh."I told you many times that i

  • My Roommate is a Boy   TICKETS AND TANGLES

TAYLOR “Good night, sweetheart.” I stand as the door closes in my face and wonder what is going on with me. I had prepared a ticket for her against my will, and all because she asked me about a game in the morning. When the captain asked us to come get our allotted tickets for the game, I had asked him for an extra one."You have to set me up on a date," he had said with all seriousness."For an extra ticket?" I asked, pressing my lip into a line. It made no sense that he would ask me that since we were originally entitled to four tickets per player, but I had always taken only two since I had no one else to invite aside from Hendrix and Noah. Now that I wanted to do a good deed and give it to River and her friends, I needed just one more, and then I will ask my boys to purchase their tickets."You are Jeff, the football captain; you don't need my help getting a date," I said when all he did was nod."Oh well, that does not mean anything to women anymore. When I was in high school, i

  • My Roommate is a Boy   THE HOT NERD & THE BAD BOY!

RIVERI look down at the tickets he had shoved in my hand and then back up at his face. "What is this, and why?" I ask. He looks confused at my question, as if that was not what he expected from me."Tickets to the game""Why?" I ask, wondering if he thought I was interested in the game just because I asked."Earlier today, you spoke about how..." He was stuttering and overgesturing with his hands. He looked flustered, as if I had put him on the spit, so I nodded and took a step back to create a bigger gap between us."Thank you for this.""There are three tickets, so you can tag along with your friends," he said, the pressure suddenly lifting off his shoulders. It was almost visible how I saw the flustered look fly away from his face in the moment."Good night, Taylor," I say and open my door."Good night, sweetheart," his voice carried into my room before I could shut the door. I wonder when I became comfortable with hearing the name 'sweetheart' from him. I hated nicknames, but fro
