CHAPTER TWENTY-THREE

The ride is silent and tense.

My dad is at the front with our driver, Alexi. We don’t usually need drivers, but sometimes when there’s an important event, he drives us. He is usually present as a guard, but, when need be, he doubles as a driver. He sits silently in the front, his movements controlled and unhurried, like it’s a normal day for him, a normal job for him. I wonder if he knows what is going on, if he knows what sort of asshole and devious bitch he’s driving, I wonder if he knows that I’m being forced to reject my mate and claim my ex who I honest to God don’t want anywhere near me.

I’m finding it extremely hard to breathe through this. It feels unreal, like I can’t believe what is happening, like it’s a terrible dream that I should wake up from but can’t. I glare at the back of my father’s head, wanting nothing more than to bash his head in, but I know he will give the order to kill Mars before I’m done. I glare harder.
