Faye stared at what could very well be her new home through the tinted window, the faint sound of fountain water splashing into a pool of blue, and she clenched her fists; squeezing on her white cotton dress.
She let out a slow and breathy exhale and resisted the urge to throw up as her heart knocked against her chest in a violent beat.
Her anxiety could simply be traced to moving into a new home, but it was much bigger than that.
She, a Werewolf; mortal enemies to the Lycans was about to live amongst the most powerful Lycan pack in existence.
"Are you nervous?"
A soft and gentle voice spoke, breaking through the loudness of her panic. For a moment she had forgotten that she wasn't alone.
She settled her golden eyes on the beautiful woman with a platinum blonde pixie cut and blue-grey eyes. She looked well in her early 30's, but Faye knew she was much older than that.
She shook her head at Gwen's question, and Gwen simply shot her a smile.
Faye knew all too well that she was terrible at hiding her emotions. So, she let out another shaky breath and nodded her head.
"I am." Her voice was soft and light.
Gwen gently patted her head, her hands smoothening the stray strands of Faye's silver hair.
"Don't be." Her lips stretched further in an assuring smile. "I'm here."
Faye stared at the woman who was no more than a stranger, yet seemed to provoke a calm in her. She was a complete contrast to the woman she called 'Mother' her entire life.
She nodded, then tried her best to muster an equally charming smile and failed.
Gwen shot her yet another assuring smile, then leaned back on the leather seat.
'Nick.' She called for her husband through the mindlink. 'Is Emris home?'
'Yeah, he is.' Nick responded.
'And the rest?'
'All here. What's wrong?'
'Could you have everyone wait for me in the living room?'
Nick paused a bit. 'You got it.'
Then, Gwen turned to Faye. "Let's head in."
She alighted the car, then held her hand out to Faye who just stared at her, then looked at the estate. Her stomach churned and she clenched her fists to stop the her hands from trembling.
After spending her entire life tortured by her kind, she wondered just how different this place would be. Would they treat her the same, or would they finally be the light at the end of the tunnel that she'd been running through.
She hoped for the latter.
So, taking a shaky breath in, she took Gwen's hand and exited the car.
The fresh air hit her face in a gentle brush, carrying with it the sweet smell of flowers. Her bare feet curled at the subtle sting of the cold stone pavers leading to the entrance of the house, and a small smile graced her lips.
It felt like she finally touched ground after a lifetime of hanging by her neck.
Gwen led her through the front yard, then through the door. And the second she shut it behind them, Faye's heart dropped to her stomach.
"Mom, please!" Her own distressed voice invaded her ears as flashes of blood, the full moon in the sky and large wolves came crashing on her like a violent wave.
"Mom, it hurts!" a twelve year old Faye cried; her clothes and silver hair bloodied and two wolves towering over her with snarls.
Her vision doubled, and her body started to tremble. The sound of a door slamming shut echoed through her ears and her lips parted in a desperate gasp for air.
Gwen stopped in her tracks, then faced Faye's small and pale body.
"Faye." She called, gently grabbing Faye's shoulders and smiling when Faye slowly peeled her eyes off the floor and settled them on her.
"You're okay." She declared softly. "Remember, I'm here."
Gwen's words felt like the warm touch of the sun after a cold and heavy storm. Looking into Gwen's blue-grey eyes, Faye took in yet another deep and shaky inhale, and exhaled through her mouth.
Her nails dug into her palm as she clenched her fists, then she swallowed the anxiety stuck in her throat.
"Thank you." She all but whispered, then followed after Gwen who led her by hand.
The inside of their home looked like art. Paintings hung on every wall of the lobby- mostly portraits of family and ancestors. The inside was a snow white, and every furniture bore a royal blue color or white.
They walked under the sweeping curves of the dual-direction staircase, and Faye could hear and see the small group of people in the living room chattering away.
She followed Gwen into a large space housing a conversation pit, a 24 inch TV and Couches arranged around a glass table with golden legs. The walls held paintings as well, and a large chandelier hung over them.
Faye barely had time to appreciate her environment when the sweetest smell she'd ever come across caressed her senses.
She knew it couldn't have come from the room, but from someone in it.
It was weird. Creatures like them who were sensitive to smell never wore perfumes. She couldn't smell any on Gwen-even when they were in the car, and she couldn't smell any on the others in the room.
Except one.
Faye's body pulsated when her attention drifted and settled on a pair of beautiful blue eyes that seemed to transport her into an entirely different dimension.
Who...is he? Faye mused.
He stood a short distance from her, his build taller and larger than most of the men she'd seen. He was the most beautiful man she had ever set her eyes on.
His perfectly sculpted jaw could cut through wood, and his dark hair held hints of blonde; falling just a few inches above his shoulders.
His lips- the prettiest she had ever seen- parted;
"Who is she?"
The next day wasn't any easier for Faye. She knew it would take time for the others to warm up to her, and she was willing to do whatever it took. But, she didn't expect Gwen to charge in like a hero."Why is she sitting at this table?" Emris growled. The worst kind of hero.Faye lowered her head and begged the earth to swallow her whole. The family of six sat around the dining table- with Faye sticking out like a sore thumb."It's a good way to make her feel more at home." Gwen was unfazed by the tension in the air, cutting away at her food.Nick handed her his plate of already sliced Steak and she shot him a grateful grin.Emris leaned back on his seat, his gaze sharpening on Faye."Is this a joke?" He demanded. "You just casually let her sit here?"He looked between his parents, then Vincent and Lynn."Emris," Nick sighed, setting his fork down. "Please, find a way to let this go."Emris eyes widened at Nick's request. It felt like betrayal, especially when he wasn't the only one s
The room remained quiet, and all eyes were on Faye."Aysel Aster." She said and their hearts dropped.Mabel sighed heavily.Aster– the cruelest and most powerful family in the Werewolf race. They obsessed over power and indulged in brutal trainings. Their bloodline alone was responsible for the war between Werewolves and Lycans. All for greed and a thirst to rule.Gwen’s wide eyes shifted to a seemingly unfazed Mabel, then she exhaled shakily, running her hands over her face."Mabel," she breathed, "you should've started with that."Mabel shrugged. "Figured you guys needed candy before getting your teeth pulled."Gwen scoffed, too strung out to find any humor.A chuckle cut through the silence that loomed over them, and their attention settled on Nick, slouched back in his Swivel chair, hand to his forehead and shoulders trembling.Mabel frowned. "Are you seriously laughing?"Nick didn't answer, but chuckled louder.Gwen clasped her hands, a thin, brittle smile pulling at the corners
He...left.Faye mused. She expected it, but she'd be lying if she said she hadn't held unto hope.Afterall, he was her long awaited mate. The door creaked open to reveal Mabel. She leaned against the doorframe with her arms crossed as her eyes observed Faye with quiet intensity.Faye avoided Mabel's eyes, her body still trembling from Emris' lingering scent and the replay of their encounter."I'm curious to know your story." Mabel sauntered in and stopped a few inches from Faye. She lifted her hand and froze when Faye flinched; cowering at the thought of Mabel's hand descending in a violent blow.Mabel tilted her head, then held the palm of her hands out in front of Faye with a soft smile."You know," she started. "Though these hands have slain enemies, carried the bodies of fallen comrades and loved ones— and are stained with the blood of countless lives.."She slowly reached for Faye again, earning a low gasp from her as she gently patted her head."I'd sooner cut them off than harm
"What on earth are you-"Faye jumped. Before her legs could go out the window, Emris' strong arms reached for her; grabbing her by the stomach and pulling her in.He staggered back and fell to the floor; his arm still holding her waist in a strong hold.Emris' warmth enveloped her, unfamiliar and intoxicating. She wasn't ready to let go. His scent filled her senses up in euphoria, and she felt butterflies erupt in her stomach. He smelled sweet, like cinnamon and vanilla. She was more than ready to never separate from his body again, but to keep close to a feeling she had never experienced once in her lifetime. But, her pleasure was cut short when Emris shoved her away. She was knocked back to reality by the cold tiled floor, and she watched him stand to his feet; dusting her scent and the feel of her off his body. His steely gaze met her stare, and she shot up from the floor with a gasp and stepped away from him.She avoided his cold stare, then hands to her chest."I-I'm sorry." She
The gentle breeze swept in through the open window, fanning across Faye's sleeping face. The sweet scent of flowers tickled her nose, and her eyes fluttered open to a white and high ceiling with a diamond chandelier. She slowly turned her head and looked out the window. She couldn't see anything but trees dancing to the movement of the wind. Then she let out a sigh.What.. happened? She looked around the large bedroom, then sat up on the bed. She came face to face with a full length mirror, then narrowed her eyes at the blood stains on her dress."Oh.." she breathed. "I fainted.""Please...it hurts."Her words repeated in her mind like a haunting echo, and she brought her knees to her chest; covering her ears and closing her eyes tight, in hopes that what happened was simply a dream. She knew it was stupid of her to think that way. Afterall, she was sitting on a king sized bed— in a large room fit for a princess. There was no way it was all a dream. The problem was that she had no ide
'Mate.'Emris' wolf alerted the second his mother walked into the living room with a girl who's beauty put the moon and stars to shame. He watched her movements; the way she tried so hard to hide how her body trembled in their presence, the sound of her heart beating like it threatened to rip out of her chest, and how her golden eyes darted across the room in awe of her surroundings.'Mate..' Titan reminded in a low and excited growl, a hint of desperation etched in his voice. But wait.Emris paused. Her smell..Her eyes met his, and his jaw clenched. She's Werewolf. He growled internally and balled his hands into fists."Who is she?"Emris' deep voice provoked snarls from Lynn; the dark haired woman and Vincent; the blonde man standing next to him, and their eyes turned gold. His question was all they needed to go into attack mode.Faye flinched, then hid behind Gwen; tightly gripping Gwen's top as the sound of her heart drummed against her ears. Are they going to kill me?
