Faye stared at what could very well be her new home through the tinted window.
She resisted the urge to throw up as her heart knocked against her chest in a violent beat.
Her anxiety could simply be traced to moving into a new home, but it was much bigger than that.
She, a Werewolf; mortal enemies to the Lycans was about to live amongst the most powerful Lycan pack in existence.
"Are you nervous?"
A soft and gentle voice spoke, breaking through the loudness of her panic. For a moment she had forgotten that she wasn't alone.
She settled her golden eyes on the beautiful woman with a platinum blonde pixie cut and blue-grey eyes. She looked well in her early 30's, but Faye knew she was much older than that.
She shook her head at Gwen's question, and Gwen simply shot her a smile.
Faye let out another shaky breath and nodded her head. "I am."
Gwen gently patted Faye's head, her hands smoothening the stray strands of her silver hair.
"Don't be." She smiled, "I'm here."
Faye stared at the woman who was no more than a stranger, yet was kind to her. She was a complete contrast to the woman she called 'Mother' her entire life.
She nodded, then mustered a smile.
Gwen shot her yet another smile, then leaned back on her seat.
'Nick.' She called for her husband through the mindlink. 'Is Emris home?'
'Yeah, he is.' Nick responded.
'And the rest?'
'All here. What's wrong?'
'Could you have everyone wait for me in the living room?'
Nick paused a bit. 'You got it.'
Gwen turned to Faye. "Let's head in."
She exited the car, then held her hand out to Faye who just stared at her.
After spending her entire life tortured by her kind, she wondered just how different this place would be.
Taking a shaky breath in, she took Gwen's hand and exited the car.
Gwen led her through the door, and the second she shut it behind them, Faye's heart dropped to her stomach.
*"Dad, please!" *
Her own distressed voice invaded her ears as flashes of blood, the full moon in the sky and large wolves came crashing on her like a violent wave.
*"Dad, it hurts!" a twelve year old Faye cried; her clothes and silver hair bloodied and two wolves towering over her. *
Her vision doubled, and her body started to tremble. The sound of a door slamming shut echoed through her ears and her lips parted in a desperate gasp for air.
Gwen stopped in her tracks.
"Faye." She called, gently grabbing Faye's shoulders. "You're okay. Remember, I'm here."
Gwen's words felt like the warm touch of the sun after a cold and heavy storm. Looking into Gwen's blue-grey eyes, Faye let out yet another shaky breath.
She swallowed the anxiety stuck in her throat.
"Thank you." She breathed, then followed after Gwen.
The inside of their home looked like art. Paintings hung on every wall of the lobby- mostly portraits of family and ancestors.
They walked under the sweeping curves of the dual-direction staircase, and Faye could hear and see the small group of people in the living room chattering away.
She followed Gwen into a large living room, barely having time to appreciate her environment when the sweetest smell she'd ever come across caressed her senses.
She knew it couldn't have come from the room, but from someone in it.
It was weird. Creatures like them who were sensitive to smell never wore perfumes. She couldn't smell any on Gwen-even when they were in the car, and she couldn't smell any on the others in the room.
Except one.
Faye's body pulsated when her attention drifted and settled on a pair of beautiful blue eyes that seemed to transport her into an entirely different dimension.
Who is he? Faye mused.
He stood a short distance from her, his build taller and larger than most of the men she'd seen. He was the most beautiful man she had ever set her eyes on.
His eyes darkened, and he looked at Gwen.
"Who is she?"
"While I'm loving the enthusiasm, I think it was a mistake to tell them you'll help." Ryuu said when Faye's head hit the bed. "Why?""Because we're not sure we can. You heard what they said. The poison is made of magic, we can't find it.""We can.""And what gives you the confidence that we can?""Because we have to."Silence floated over the room like clouds and she met Ryuu's eyes. "What? Are you willing to give up because we can't?"He let out a huff, a faint smirk tugging at the corner of his lips. "Honestly? A little part of me wants to do just that.""But?""But, if you say we can, then we can."The corners of her lips lifted in a small smile. Suddenly—A faint flutter filled the room, and she froze. She slowly looked up, and there it was—another cockroach flying around. Just as she was about to let out a deafening scream, Ryuu leaned over the bed and covered her mouth. "Everyone else is asleep!"The roach drew closer and she thrashed around. "Wait! I'll kill it, alright?
"What? What is it?!""A R—Roach."Ryuu blinked and followed her line of sight. He sighed. "Isn't this kind of ironic?""Kill it before you lecture me." She glared. He rolled his eyes, then gently set her back on her feet. She backed all the way up to the door, hands on the knob—ready to dash out of the room if it so much as flapped its wings. Ryuu slowly approached the disgusting insect with a book he'd found by the bed, and—BANG. He crushed it against the wall. She let out a breath. She didn't do well with insects. Back at the Blood Shield pack, she basically lived in her own filth and blood, so seeing Cockroaches and rats wasn't new. Still, it didn't make her used to it, it just made her hate and fear them more. "Remember when I told you about the Elephant being afraid of rats?"She glared at him, more than aware of where he was going with this. Thankfully, one look at him was enough to snap his lips shut. She walked over to the bed and plopped down on it. She looked out the wi
"Hi," Faye started, ignoring Jordan's statement, "I'd introduce myself, but you already know who I am.""And I'm Ryuu, by the way," Ryuu added, giving them a short wave. "We're not a threat to you. Ruby led us here because we can help.""Is that what *you* said to her?" Jordan glared. "No! It was a big handsome man!" "Ruby, be quiet," Kate hushed. "I won't say this again—" he coughed violently, blood splattering from his mouth. "Jordan!" "Daddy!" Kate and Ruby chorused as they held onto him. Faye tilted her head as she studied him, paying attention to the sound and movement and feel of Jordan's blood. His blood was mostly poison at this point. The only reason he stayed alive this long was because of his wolf. A small smile tugged on Faye's lips, "It's fine. I can work from this distance."Her golden eyes glowed—so brightly, they turned almost pale white. Suddenly, Jordan's and Kate's skin regained its colour, and their bony figures began to fill out with flesh. They were both
"I think..." Ryuu started as he and Faye stood in the middle of a tight-knit neighbourhood, "I'd prefer training with Emris to this any day."The 'trial of trust' was a method used to determine the innocence and fate of the guilty through the public's opinion. Faye and Ryuu were released into a controlled area of the pack lands—unguarded for seven days. Pack members were allowed to interact with them, but not harm them. The goal of the trial? They must gain trust and be accepted. "You're my best friend, Faye. But did you have to drag me with you?"Faye glared at him. "Throw your fit at the elders, dummy. They're the ones who insisted on you joining."Ryuu let out a deep sigh. "First, I'm locked in my room, and now I'm forced to go outside.""Something's weird," Faye said, glancing around. There were Lycans present on the street, going about their business, most glaring their way—but she could sense death, illness and devastation."Those rude old men meant to send us to our death," s
Faye stared out the window of the car and at the full moon that seemed to follow them. She clutched a handful of her black off-shoulder dress, struggling to take deep breaths in. Emris sat across from her, Mabel next to Emris and Ryuu next to her. The closer they got to the venue -which was in t
The day of the moon bonding ceremony came quicker than Faye had hoped. It was 9am, and she stood with Mabel in one of the many empty rooms in the Mansion, practicing the sacred moon bond dance. Their movements were slow, graceful and mesmerising."What exactly is this dance for again?" Ryuu asked
Ryuu watched Mabel's eyes light up when she bit into her sandwich, and an unconscious smile grew on his lips. She looked like a child who'd just tried a new snack, especially with the way her cheeks inflated. She looked like a chipmunk. Moments like these, he couldn't help but see her exactly the
The moon bonding ceremony happened four times a year, every three months. It was a sacred night where bonds and fated love was celebrated. And the Lycans -more in tune with nature and peace- uphold it as one of the greatest nights for their race. It was unexpected, but the recent turn of events f
