Winning Back the Husband

Face Slapping

My fiancee, Emma Jillard's assistant, Charlie Ziegler, loves placing bets. After Emma loses a bet to him, she cancels our wedding for the 19th time because of him. I warn her that if this happens again, I'll marry another woman immediately. But Emma just smiles at me nonchalantly. "You've already donated your kidney to me, Shawn. What makes you think you can marry someone else? Besides, who else but me will marry a handicap like you?" On the 20th wedding, Charlie sends Emma a photo of the airport, where half a flight ticket can be seen. This is another bet that he has made with her. "If you can't find me in half an hour, you will never be able to see me again." Having noticed the destination that's printed on the ticket, Emma rips her wedding veil off her head before rushing toward the airport in a fit of panic. Half an hour later, Charlie updates his social media feed. "Only the one who truly cares for you is willing to overcome challenges for you." Upon noticing the post, I don't bother responding to it. Instead, I quietly dial a phone number that I'm very familiar with. "Eleanor, are you still going to keep your word of marrying me back then?" Her voice echoes back excitedly. "Seriously? Of course! As long as you're my marriage partner, I will forever stick to that promise!"

Chapter 1
In that instant, the guests in the banquet hall looked at one another in confusion; it was a humiliating farce within the circles of the rich and influential, while my friends and family were all indignant on my behalf."How can Ms. Jillard be so muddle-headed? How could she call off her wedding with Mr. Fuller 20 times just for some lowly assistant?""Mr. Fuller treated her so well that he donated one of his kidneys to her, which caused Mr. Fuller Senior to cut him off entirely."Upon hearing all the whispers around me, I let out a wry smile, thinking that even outsiders had realized that Emma Jillard had taken things too far this time.Josie Hall, Emma's mother, rushed onto the stage, grabbing my arm as she said, "You should calm the guests down and get everyone started on dinner, Shawn. You can just tell them that Emma had an urgent matter at work."I looked indifferently at Josie, feeling nothing but utter disappointment. "I've said that same excuse 19 times—just as Emma had s

Chapter 2
I recalled how Emma would repeat the same excuse. "You have to see it from my side, Shawn. I'm the CEO of a company, so I definitely have to lead by example and keep my promises. Charlie is a high-stakes hire as well, so I can't afford to have him feeling slighted."I reflected on that and became even more convinced that they had made a game out of my wedding every time.Did they really think I wouldn't notice?Their wager during the 19th time was that the wedding would be called off if Charlie could run from the hall to the stage, which was only 330 feet, in under a minute. Charlie, standing close to six feet and three inches, could have easily made it even by crawling.Charlie took his time getting to the stage before shooting me a mocking look. "You're so permissive with me, Ms. Jillard. Is it because you want to marry me instead? Why don't you make it happen, then? I'd definitely look incredibly sharp in that wedding suit."Emma let out a doting smile. "You're already up on th

I calmly slid off the ring on my finger and tossed it into the trash. "I bet that by the 21st wedding, Jillard Group will cease to exist in Bellevue."Upon hearing that, Emma turned around sharply and slapped me across the face. "You know how difficult it was for Jillard Group to get to where it is today, Shawn! How dare you curse the company over a mere wedding! Charlie was right about you. You're nothing but a selfish freeloading man!"I let out a scoff when I heard Emma's evaluation of me. "You two should just get married if you've already slept together—stop hiding behind these bets and acting in a way that revolts people."I spoke loudly enough that all the nearby guests turned to look in our direction.Charlie flushed deeply. "Ms. Jillard and I have nothing more than a professional relationship, Mr. Fuller. How could you slander us like this? If you're so intent on marrying Ms. Jillard, I'll make sure she wins the next bet. Is that enough for you, Mr. Fuller?"He then steppe

Charlie stepped forward and threw a punch at me. "You're not allowed to talk about Dobby in such a manner, Mr. Fuller! You ought to know that Dobby isn't just my dog—it's been with me for five years! I've long seen it as part of my family!"Emma took Charlie's hand in hers after striking me, blowing softly on it. "You hit him so hard. Your hand must be aching now, Charlie."She then looked at me with a cold, distant expression, saying, "You should just sign it already and stop making a scene in front of everyone, Shawn."I spat out a mouthful of blood, took the pen offered to me, and signed without hesitation, finding it utterly absurd to see the dog listed as the beneficiary. They pored over the share transfer agreement together, and Charlie beamed joyfully. "I'm sure Dobby feels much more secure now that this is settled, Ms. Jillard."Emma smiled gently and said, "It's all worth it as long as you're happy, Charlie."I took a deep breath and lunged at Charlie. I tried to drive t

Chapter 5
I was finally tracked down by Emma, who couldn't reach me, on the fifth day. She managed to get me out of there despite her slight build. She brought me back to the Fuller family and directly berated Dad, declaring that she would take me in and protect me with everything she had if none of them wanted me.I was left with lifelong trauma following Mom's death and my abduction incident. It was Emma who slowly taught me how to love myself again and how to pull myself back from the edge. She wasn't just my lover—she was my only source of strength and hope.I was spiraling in a daze when Emma entered, guiding Charlie along. She then pointed at me with a look of pure malice and snarled, "Charlie and I refuse to accept a settlement on this matter! I want him locked up this instant! If he used a pen today, he'll have the nerve to use a knife in the future!"Charlie pressed a hand against his ribs, looking pained. It was then that the police officer whispered some advice to me. "Your action

I learned the hard way that trauma lingers—ever since the day of my abduction, I had been plagued by claustrophobia.I was dragged into the alley, and under the cover of the night, I was met with a barrage of punches and kicks coming from every direction."You worthless fool! You'll disappear from Jillard Group right now if you know what's best for you!"I didn't know how much time had passed before those people left. I had already lost all sensation; my hands were still tightly protecting the area that had been operated on. I couldn't help but shudder in fear when I heard the approaching footsteps.I suddenly felt a pair of warm hands settling on my shoulders and heard a calm, gentle voice whispering into my ear, "You must stay strong, Shawn. Your chance to get even is finally here."I used every ounce of my remaining strength to crawl to the entrance of the hospital, where I was immediately rushed into the ER.I finally regained consciousness on my second day in the hospital. Emma charged toward me and slapped me hard across the face. "You clearly haven't learned your lesson! Get on your knees and apologize to Charlie this instant!"I met her gaze without flinching. "You're out of your mind if you think I'm doing that. You played me with one lie after another, but karma is coming for you and Jillard Group soon!"Emma, irritated by my composure, turned around and ordered, "Grab Shawn this instant!"I raised my voice at the bodyguards, telling them to stop. "I was at fault regarding the previous incident, so I came here specifically to apologize."Emma stared at me with suspicion, her expression filled with doubt. Charlie came over as well, still holding Dobby in his arms.I restrained my revulsion and looked at him with a faint smile.Charlie said with an air of generosity, "I think we should give Shawn a chance, Emma. I'm sure he has finally realized his mistakes. I think it's only right for him to apologize to Dobby as well since he's already here."

Eleanor wanted to say something on my behalf, but I subtly shook my head to stop her.Charlie suddenly walked up and stood behind Eleanor's side, his entire demeanor shifting as he sized Eleanor up. He stared at Eleanor's priceless watch, his eyes gleaming with interest. "It must be so dull sleeping with an old man like Shawn."He then leaned close and whispered in Eleanor's ear, "You should give me a chance instead. I'm younger and much more interesting than Shawn."Eleanor looked at him, her gaze brimming with obvious contempt.Emma was so focused on me that she didn't even notice what Charlie was up to.Eleanor chuckled faintly and said, "Your lover is practically throwing himself into my arms right now, Ms. Jillard. You should probably step in now, right?"Emma glanced over at Charlie and saw him practically leaning all over Eleanor. Her expression became extremely grim, saying, "You probably just hired some random actress to put on a show, Shawn. She looks like the type who'
